Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails produced the album and their fingerprints are all over it. The instrumentation and production qualities are quintessential Nine Inch Nails. Their involvement is what drew my interest to this album. I had never heard Halsey before this album but I fell in love with this album right away!
I loved watching you groove to all of the songs! I am also a NIN fan who had never listened to Halsey before, and now I am obsessed! Their pairing on this album is amazing. I agree, I can't imagine listening to this album song by song out of order, the whole album is best consumed as a whole. I hope you've had a chance to see the movie by now, it is also amazing and I've watched it a few times! 😍
LOVED this reaction video, including personal comments and potential lyric analysis was great. This is imo is Halsey’s strongest album, the lyricism just pulled it above Manic for me.
"The tradition" actually gave me Rhaenyra Targaryen vibes and I bet there'll be some fan edits with it after HOTD is released on HBO next year. Loved this reaction! "Ya'burnee" is my favorite on the album, it's so beautifully composed and every element complements the other. This album rivals badlands for my fave, it's wonderful to see how Halsey's grown over the years. Edit: also that lyrics-site got them a bit wrong for "Bells in Santa Fe". she sings "Jesus you've got better lips than Judas, I could keep your bed warm-- otherwise I'm useless. I don't really mean it, cause who the fuck would choose this?" I think it's a deep reflection and critique on how women (with power) have been portrayed as only being good for submitting to the man and nothing more.
