- Beginning this month in New York City, former President Donald Trump will stand in the first of four state and federal trials in which he faces a total of 91 criminal charges, from financial fraud, to conspiring to overturn the election he lost in 2020, to keeping classified documents at his home in Florida. Trump's defenders equate the prosecution of a presidential candidate with "election interference," but Melissa Murray and Andrew Weissmann, authors of "The Trump Indictments," call the trials of a former president a defining moment in the rule of law. "48 Hours" correspondent Erin Moriarty reports.

If you think jurors do not go into the court room with their political opinion then you don't understand human behavior or psyche
In my experience as a Sociologist, Criminologist, Paralegal, and former criminal defense investigator, all jurors have opinions one way or the other. The judges, prosecutors, and defense attorneys have specific ways of weeding out potential jurors who are unable to be impartial in evaluating the facts and applying the law.

The real question is whether our system is able to outmaneuver this criminal - nothing but delays and lies. I’ve lost all faith in the Supreme Court. With justices like Clarence Thomas on the bench, who would have faith in the judicial system?
Very much agreed, and legal experts who argue cases before SCOTUS are totally shocked by the latest turn of events. That's what really scares me. We are truly on our own and have to be working to get as many votes out there, not just for Biden, but all down ballot to throw out these crazy con men and women who bend to his will out of fear or admiration.

Trumps statement of financial wherewithal included a statement that the lender must do their own due diligence. The Judge and AGs claim that Mar a Lago was worth 18 million dollars made them look ridiculous. They derived that dollar amount from the Florida taxation Dept. who advised their formula is not based on Market values. A quick scan of zillow shows that tiny parcels of vacant land sold for twice that amount. Mar a Lago has a thriving business, is a historic landmark and sprawls from one waterfront to the next in a very high priced zip code. This is not a victimless crime because it is not a crime.

I believe the facts of the case came from DJT own business records. The appeal will be costly up front and very likely he will be a loser, again. Most people who are innocent will remain silent and look forward to their day in court to prove themselves. Just to add : the prosecutors are not to blame for the trial schedules : that is a direct result of Trump’s delay, delay, delay tactic. He can’t have it both ways - delay, delay delay and then whine when it interferes with his campaign schedule.
Yup, these could have been all settled last year but Trump knows he isn't going to win (maybe in Florida because the brain rot is strong down there) so he has to delay. The cases will be thrown out if the Feds do not prove their cases beyond a reasonable dobut. Let me try to explain: There is still zero evidence of fraud/cheating/false ballots; as Giulaani finally said, they had the theories - but they could not find the facts. But a significant number of (so called) Republicans still insist that Biden did not win the vote. The percentage of voters registered with the Democratic Party increased from 46.17% to 46.89%. The percentage of voters registered with the Republican Party decreased from 24.14% to 23.83% The balance are Independent voters 29.28% As Biden narrowly won, it is clear that not all Democrats and Independents voted - but more voted for Biden than Trump. And that is why the cases will be tried based on facts, and if the facts are proven be;yond a reasonable doubt, the cases themselves will show why they should not be thrown out.

What I do not understand is, if the DOJ is truly a functioning democratic institution, why did it take 1 year and 8 months to indict him? I always maintained that Trump should have been arrested while he was still on the stage at the Ellipse. That was 6 Jan 2021.

Also, I think, (only my feeling), that they thought his followers would cool to him and they could proceed without risk of more violence. That has happened somewhat, but I think anyone loyal to the U.S. and not to a demagogue, lives in disbelief, as I do, that this is our country.
