Thanks for the shout out. Agree with your points about Gibson trying to sell the logo on the headstock, and hoping you don't notice the shortcuts. Also, the comments from Gibson fans can be fairly zealous, best of luck! P.S. we think your hat looks cool.
Everything you said in your video about this guitar is true, unlike those sponsored by stores and brands that simply want to influence, sell and profit. Keep telling the Truth Chris.
@Driftwood Guitars Well, I don't think it sounds a bit like you describe on your channel. I think it's a super-light, super-articulate guitar for home recording, and worth the money. That said, your honesty won me over instantly, I totally respect it, and I'm enjoying your channel.
I just got mine yesterday! It plays great, sounds great, and looks 10x better in person than the pictures online. It’s a very fun guitar and the gig bag is super nice as well.
Nice review, man. I’m totally stealing that saying, “In the race to the bottom dollar, everyone loses.” And thanks for explaining why binding matters too!
I have a G45 standard which I think was from the previous series of G45s. It doesn’t have the sound hole, it does have a binding, the front pin is in a slightly different position and it plays absolutely great. In fact it was a bit of a struggle finding other guitars that played as well even in the 2-3x price range of the G45.
I have played a few of these now and my impression is this: Yes this is Gibson trying to say “not all of our guitars cost $3k!” And they are trying to make a guitar that does come in affordably… However I still feel like for what Taylor can offer you in the American Dream series and what brands like Seagull can make in Canada for half the money of the Gibson it’s a really hard sell. Personally I have a couple of Eastman guitars that get most of my stage time and they have been solid performers. But I can understand not wanting to buy a Chinese guitar… For the money I just don’t feel like Gibson is measuring up with a guitar that will last, be worthy of its price tag and if anything they will end up with people looking elsewhere when they upgrade. Gibson really came out strong in 2019 on the electrics they relaunched with but the acoustic line has really taken a back seat, and it’s disappointing. I’ve seen some alarming QC issues on their high end guitars and frankly… I don’t see an end on site. Gibson has a backlog of orders like everybody else but they are trying to crank out numbers like it’s 2021, yet make guitars like it’s still 1952. I wish them well.
I’ll try to make a thoughtful comment. I watched the Driftwood video when it came out and it revealed workmanship flaws most novices or budget seekers would not seek out or consider. Taylor and Martin ( and Fender electric) have perfected the laundry soap- snack chip approach of creating more and more models to steal all the shelf space they can. Taylor particularly , though, has an excellent quality control system and a good balance of prices and materials. Playability is never an issue with Taylor and the sounds are good and consistent , if not exceptional. Gibson comes in with this model, which appears to lack basic quality control ( perhaps they are assigning construction to their newer workers?) and so -so sound. They , I think, would be better off staying as a higher end manufacturer and keeping quality control higher and improving than try to crowd into an already too crowded market with people who do it better. Their new management promised this, but then we get the G45.
Yeah I watched the same video, it's pretty revealing. Brands like Furch, Dowina and Eastman are laying waste to the quality mid price market and I'm not sure the big names have any answers?
Perhaps I should have added that, if you are going to enter a crowded market segment, you had better have a product that is at least as good, preferably better , than what’s already out there. A misfire at the beginning dooms your success chances.
I bought one 4 months ago....and i play it every day. Plays great en sounds great. Very comfortable neck. Also the player port does something. Love it!
That is a nice fair review Jeremy. One of the numerous things those "Driftwood" boys pointed out that I agree with is the fact that Gibson finished (polished) the guitar after assembling the neck to the body. If you ever ever a need a neck reset, you will also need a finish fix since the finish will be damaged. Additionally, the test they (Driftwood) did for scratches was revealing in the damage it caused because the finish is so thin. It is disconcerting that Gibson has cut some very important corners just to keep the guitar American made, all solid and under a grand. I give Sweetwater some credit too for having the guts to allow for some objective unbiased reviews like yours. Good point you made as well about the binding (lack thereof) not being a cosmetic issue as opposed to a damage control issue. For the user group this guitar is intended for, they left out protections and features to help those folks out. That said, walnut is awesome and the guitar sounds very nice and hopefully Gibson will refine this guitar. I think the previous one (G-45) a few years ago was a lot more robust. Great review!
There are European brands like Furch and Dowina that are dissolving the notion of mid price quality and desirability being out of reach to most of us budget restricted players. Beware the big names, they're coming to get you.
@@JeremySheppard Furch are sleeping giants I would say. The Blue series guitars (entry to all solid) are very renowned for their resonance. Have a look at the Dowina brand too. Richards Guitars in the UK have a fair few reviews on his RUclips channel - although the audio can be a little sketchy. I would like to have one of the Bona Vida parlours, they sound ace.
Once again good and fair video. Two unrelated things. First I’m always amazed at how well your channel records guitars. I suspect and I could be wrong that how you record does slightly more justice to a guitar than I would feel about them if I played them in person. Second and unrelated, perhaps you’ve done this but I’d like to here your take should I buy used or new. For example I think you could buy a vintage Guild for similar price that would beat that guitar in sound and quality but it might be a little banged up. Keep producing interesting content, thanks!
This G series is also attracting attention in Japan. It's a cheap and good model for young people who buy it as an introduction to Gibson. I like 00. In my opinion, I like the bridge because it uses rectangular, so I would like the J-45 to be the same bridge.🇯🇵🙇🏻♂️
My guess is this guitar will have a difficult time competing with budget friendly brands like Blueridge, Recording King, and Eastman. I know most of their guitars are made overseas, but for half or 2/3 the price of this Gibson you can get an outstanding guitar, rather than an ok Gibson model. So I guess if you have to have a US Gibson, this guitar is ok, but there are so many options below this price point that would likely blow this guitar away.
I wonder if the labour cost of finishing the sound port was put into binding it would address the durability and lack of bass response in one move. Great video as always!
Thanks for the review Jeremy so far I haven’t heard much positive feedback about these but I hope to try one someday. I do think it’s pretty hard to justify a new G45 for $1200 when you could save up a couple hundred more and buy a used J 15 though.
I think if someone is going for value but want's a J45-ish feel then the Eastman E10SS is probably their best bet unless they're really against made in Beijing. JP Cormier also has given the Epiphone Inspired by Gibson J45 high marks.
I have an E20ss/v. Quite a different beast from the J45, with Addy top and rosewood back and sides; but it's one of the best slope shoulder dread I have laid hands on. You have to go the higher end US made guitars to match the craftmanship. Did I say it's 100% handmade?
Hi Jeremy I am near you in Richmond and enjoy your videos. I played all 3 of these models and am a HUGE Gibson & Martin fan. These G models are a "race to the bottom" As you stated , No bass, & with no binding ,they look and feel cheap. The oo model sounds like a laminate guitar. These guitars should sell for 400.00 to 600.00 tops. They sound thin and tiny. What was Gibson thinking ??
@@dragoonphotography5847 You are not buying any US made Acoustics for that amount , but that is not the point. These are cheaply made guitars that sound crappy. There are a bunch of imports with laminate back and sides that sound way better . For Gibson , this is low quality
just watch the driftwood video where he cuts one in half and checks it out, sloppy workmanship, random pieces of wood glued in there, a plastic plug under the end pin, total total junk that either wasn't QCd or the QCer thought it fit to be sold for $1200
@@JeremySheppard hi - but yours was paid jeremy, and his was about as in depth as is possible. The fact is, Gibson QCd a guitar that wouldn't meet the basic quality of a $150 instrument which means ,either, they don't QC their products or the standards they assess to are so low, they would be unacceptable on a harley benton. The new owners are in such debt that trading on the name is much more important than trading on quality
Sounds great. I've always wanted a J-45 (or Southern Jumbo). I agree that this would not necessarily replace my desire for a J-45 but it seems pretty close. Anyway, I probably won't get either but I liked this review and I think it's the best I've heard a G-45 sound thus far.
It sounds good. Sure, it could be better but as a high end outdoor busking gig guitar why not? Or someone who wants a USA made Gibson who can't afford an old USA Gibson.
I totally agree about the binding. If my $200 Ibanez travel guitar can have it, then a $1200 Gibson can have it aswell. I recently was biking with a Cort dreadnought on my bike and I fell off my bike with my guitar when I made a sharp turn. There was some heavy damage but because of the lack and the bindings (which the G45 doesn’t have), the damage was fixable. I think if I had a G45 instead I would’ve had to buy a new guitar
Jeremy, I bought the “pre-generation” series G45 Studio this past April. It’s my first Gibson. Years ago I wanted a ‘94-98 Gospel. The G45 is a bit upscale from that guitar. But the vibe is similar. I agree that it’s a stepping stone to a J35 or J45. It may even drive one to look at the Eastman Slope shoulders. The E10SS is very Gibson-y but without the “growl”. Love the channel! Keep doing what you do.
I like mine. I absolutely do not love the Sonitone pickup. I forget that until I plug in. It emphasizes the bass and drops the high end. I actually prefer my Takamine P3DC plugged in. Unplugged it’s a toss up. The Gibson’s short scale does make it a pure joy to play. The pickup is likely to go, or I’m just not gonna plug it in anymore.
Binding issue: Do you feel the same way with the Taylor American Dream? Same question for the finish (which I love on the AD27e). I agree on walnut, but I would add CHERRY.
As an owner of a guitar without binding, I can attest that the edges of the top damage really, really quickly. But hey, at least it's relic'd after just three years of ownership hehe
Thank you for the video. Well done and well explained. I purchased LAST YEARS version on a G45 before they added the sound port. I am older, with shoulder and neck issues therefore the thinner body appealed to me. I previously owned a J15 and loved the sound. The G45 is very easy to play easy to hold, is very light and the neck feels great to my hands. BUT- the sound was lifeless to me, no spirit, no soul, nothing to make me want to keep playing it. It also feels very cheaply made. I am still beating myself up for selling the J15. That’s a much better guitar, in my opinion, if you want the walnut sound. You can find those used for around the same price point. I think the top sound port is a gimmick to make the guitar sound better to the player. I sold the G45 I truly like Gibson, but think they have better options, you just need to save a bit more or look for that really sweet used one. I found a L00 Studio Rosewood that a really enjoy playing. (I know, some say it’s not a true L00 Gibson but this one really shines for me). Thank you again
Not even gonna pull punches, they’ve made the cheapest guitar they can and slapped the name Gibson on the headstock, because they know people will buy it. I like Gibsons in general, but to my ears this guitar sounds thin and looks cheap. My greatest mistake I made with guitars was buying cheap guitars that I eventually sold at a loss until I could buy one I genuinely wanted. I would much rather spend a little more to get a new Larrivee, a 15 series Martin, an Eastman or even a US Guild.
If you have a problem hearing, you can hear it. Well maybe not everybody but I have lost some, not all, hearing in my right ear so I was interested in these. I tried out the L-00 earlier this week. It wasn't the prettiest sounding guitar I've played. In fact they have a Martin 00V on the wall which I've played and the little Gibson is in the little league compared but I can hear it better if that makes sense. I wasn't aware that the G-45 will slimmer. I have a DX Martin my shoulder can't play any longer. Now I'm thinking about going back and trying the G-45 it might solve two problems at the same time. I have to wonder what would happen if you oiled the walnut with something really light like linseed oil. Aesthetically it would look gorgeous but what would it do to the sound? If it matters they are very very light.
Jeremy, How would you compare this to the Taylor AD17? The Taylor is more expensive and still with no binding. Would you still say that it is worth its price? I really like mine.
To me the pain of playing a dreadnought is the trade off for getting a full spectrum of sound, if it doesn't have a full-bodied base end I might as well play a smaller guitar. Obviously an oversimplification of acoustic tone but I think the argument works (at least in my mind)
The natural thing to compare it with in terms of value would be the a D Martin Road Series which is very close to the same price. At the moment Martins are a non thing here in the Pacific NW. Our dealership has no new ones and only one used. They say new Martins are a year out at least. So there are no new Martins to compare your G series Gibson to. I'm told that this is a local thing and also related to how large the dealership is. So a Martin you can't buy compared to a Gibson you can walk out with or receive in a couple of days from Sweetwater may be the better bet. It's just a thought.
I’ve heard a big issue is also the volume. People say it’s not usable for noisy scenarios or gigs without plugging it into an amp. It would have been helpful to hear this model against the volume and tone of a J-45 or any other comparable guitar without that sound hole. There are other brands that have these ports, but I’ve never heard anyone complain about the bass response and volume from those. I just feel like people can do better with a mid to high end Epiphone for less money than this particular model. It’s made in the US, but unless they can up the ante, sometimes it makes sense to buy guitars from other countries if they’re producing guitars with better specs and quality control - and there’s nothing wrong with that! It’s nice to buy American made, but it doesn’t always make sense. Like if you’re saying this is a starter guitar for a teen, how many parents are buying 1100-1200 guitars for their kids? It’s not realistic.
The ORIGINAL RUN from last year was bound both front and back with Luxury hard case and pickup for 1200.00. IT's called the STANDARD. much BETER GUITAR. GIBSON knew it was too much guitar for the money. Now they made it CHEAPER with a THINNER SOUND. I have THE ORIGINAL AND ITS VERY NICE. YOU NEED TO FIND ONE OF THE STANDARDS AND REVIEW OLD VS NEW. LOVE this channel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The guitar is all wood and will sweeten with time when it opens up... this is a fact that seems lost to most reviewers ===esp ones that tend to lean towards the guitar snob camp. The fact of the matter is NO this isn't a guitar I would get for a HS student who can barely play a chord.. just like I wouldn't purchase a 2021 LT Camaro for someone who just got a driver's license.
I wouldn’t call myself a traditionalist but I can’t get over that sound port. I wonder if they got rid of the sound port could they have afforded to put on top binding for a similar price point?
Theyre hand made in Montana. Watch the factory tour. I'd buy that guitar before I'd buy most imports and cookie cutter guitars. And a hard case is ALWAYS better but you could get one for 200 bucks later. Where you say there they're selling the name I would say I'm buying the craftsmanship of a relatively small group of craftsman in Bozeman, Montana. Then there's that name. My two.
I’ve been playing a Gibson G 00 for the last couple of weeks. I found it to be easy playing and inspiring. I completely agree with your review on the downsides of it. I’ve been kind of a GIBSON freak my whole life having grown up not far from Kalamazoo. This is not a life changing guitar but it is fun. In a completely different universe from the Advance Jumbo but a fun little guitar for the money. Thank you for the review. The information and the entertainment are wonderful! And I’m stealing all of your guitar riffs :-)
I also got the G00... I love it. It's fantastic for finger style and blues. I put mine on a Tone Rite for 2 weeks and it shaved some of the shrill highs down a bit to give it a more mellow "broken in" vibe
I fell for the first offering of the G-45 last year and was disappointed. I may be interested in this guitar if it were full body depth and didn’t have the sound port. Same with the jumbo and songwriter version they came out with. I really think Gibson is overthinking things. Jeremy, you need to try the Epiphone inspired by Gibson J-45; it blows this guitar away. The tone of the epiphone is considerably different than a Gibson j-45 but it’s great in its own right.
Wouldnt put this in the high school student category with Taylor 100 or Academy as the G-45 is more than 50% pricier and no pickup. I have the G-00 which is a keeper not only for the soundport but because its even more compact than the Taylor shape. Also have the G-45 on order but will be more discerning about the sound from a bigger body. With a thin nitro finish+ all solid woods, one can hope these open up over time and loose their "stiffness"....BTW, this guitar gets positive comments from folks who actually own it for a good amount of time, so what does that say?
I agree about the strap button location. Just leave it off or put it where I want it put. I don't care for unbound guitars. They look CHEAP! Cut corners some other place. The great import guitar makers are able to put nice binding on their lower priced guitars. So should American built guitar makers.
Cool video, id rather buy a 1200 used guitar, you can get such a better guitar. This reminds me of the Martin DRS2 good guitar. Solid wood back and sides on a budget
I have a nice sounding Gibson J-45 so I'm not tempted. This has a nice playing neck but sounds a bit thin to my ear. I have a Taylor 816ce Builders Edition with a sound port that makes a lot more sense. It makes a more pleasant experience for listeners. I like the Guild DS slopped shoulder dreadnought you demonstrated a while ago for half the price.
I think the soundport is a smart move by Gibson. This guitar is not designed for professional musicians but for beginners who will never play it on a stage. If there is no audience it makes sense to me to direct the sound towards the player rather than towards the wall of a room. Whatever sound quality it lacks may be mitigated by the fact that the player will probably perceive it as louder and more present. BTW, how does it sound if you install a feedback buster into the regular soundhole?
Compare this 1 with the original run g45 with binding, electronics and case for 200 less. That's a great budget gibson acoustic. Probably why they shut that shit down
I tried one and was not impressed. You want a great sounding and well built but less expensive slope shoulder? Guilds Memoir is outstanding. Incredible tone and build quality for around $600 -700
I would imagine that Gibson might be applying this drop quality charge more approach to guitars up their lineup. That would probably be the death of the brand.
Save your money and get a J-45- or do Sweetwater's 36 month zero interest program and get one. I had the 2019 1st generation G-45 Studio and didn't care at all for the walnut fretboard. Also, the bass wasn't very good on it. Glad they went to ebony for the fretboard. Walnut is very pretty for back and sides though. I agree that if you want a low-budget J-45, the Eastman is a better choice.
I bought the G-Writer after 3h testing against Taylor, Lakewood, Eastman, Ibanez, Furch, Maton. I played a lot in the 1000 - 3000$ priceange. I like snappy, transparent, shimmery sounds. The classical Martin sound is not my cup of tea. And what can I say, this guitar is incredible easy to play, super nice note seperation, good sustain and especially fingerpicking has a very present sound. There are not much lows, but as said, not what I am looking for. The low end is punchy (you can play powerchords which sounds horrible on a lot of other acoustics) and fit into the transparent overall sound. I never owned an acoustic nor electric Gibson. So definitely not a fanboy of this brand. Its not perfect, but I found a lot of worse stuff even in 3000$ guitars. If you are looking for a mordern sound with super easy playability just test it unbiased. I respect the opinion of the professionals and can´t say anything about durability at this moment, but as a amateur, mostly bedroom player, its just fun to play.
I agree with you. Being a player with 25 yrs, I also know about "snobs" that wont play anything that is under a certain price point, OR lacks a name on the head stock. The way I see it is that these guitars are ALL WOOD and will open up with time (player hours) and they will 99.9% sweeten in tone. I also believe that a player with skills can make a 300$ guitar sound like a 1500-2000$ guitar... Unfortunately, I suspect that 80% of guitar snobs lack the skills and thus put too much emphasis on cosmetic and 'artificial" parameters like $$$ and Brand Name into the mix. In this case it's a Brand Name that isn't living up to it's high dollar cousins, hence it needs to be knocked down. I have played a G00 and a G45 and the tones are unique and defined and in now way "DUD" or unworthy. (Looks and resale value to me is secondary to tone and playability.-- but that's just me).
I've played quite a few of these, and I wasn't impressed. They felt cheap, and reminded me of lower-end Martin and Godin/LaSiDo factory second guitars. Honestly, if it was all down to feel, you can get better quality Norman, Seagull or Simon and Patrick guitars for considerably less. Outside of the back being walnut vs laminated cherry, the G-45 didn't feel better than a Norman B20. The Norman ST30, Seagull Mosaic and S&P Pro Folk are a few hundred dollars less, and each is guitar is all-solid wood with a pickup, that's made in North America (Canada). If you don't care about where the guitar is made, then the world is your oyster. I'd put a Yamaha LL16 up against this guitar (and most guitars under $2000 CAD) all day long.
@@ralphkern380 Just a damn good instrument, eh? They're my go-to recommendation when people are looking for an all-solid guitar under 2k. The price, specs and consistency outweigh almost everything else.
I have a G45 from 2020. I paid less money for guitar with a lot more features. An active pick-up, a hard case and binding around the top to namw a few. I think its a lot of guitar for the money. These new ones i'm not sure
Thought I heard some buzz there... $1200.00 for a guitar with no binding... no hard case... that finish... I think there are better choices so it's a hard pass for me but thanks for the video.
If these were 750 bucks they'd have a chance. Literally giving us crap materials for 1500 bucks is the most Gibson move ever. Hate to see the resale value of these 10 years from now.
That chord progression you played at the very end of the video is that a mayday parade song? So before I comment on the guitar I thought I should throw it out there that I only play/own Gibson Acoustics.. so obviously I love the company and the brand but I'll still be 100% honest and not biased. Lol I've never played one so I don't know about the feel and how it plays.. but I think the sound overall sounds pretty good not great not terrible. I agree with you I think it could be perfect for the younger player or even a more experienced player that's on a budget I think it'd be a great guitar for that situation. I don't think it would be great for the player that's use to playing more of a "Professional" grade or "Higher End" guitar.. about 3 months ago I got a 2012 Gibson Advance Jumbo, It's seriously Unbelievable and now I don't want to play anything else.. lol.. For the price of $1,200 if it was me I would rather find a J-15 which you can find for that price or even cheaper, much better of a guitar. the quality and sound is all the way around so much better. I'd probably even look for a J-45 Studio over the. G45.. But if it fit My price range and a j-15 or j45 Studio wasn't an option, I would take this and I would be happy with it and I'd play the heck out of it!!
@@briwood6328 BS. The projection, low bass is due to the thin finish. The G45 is more than adequate for 89% of players... it's your guitar skills that would sweeten the pot... not big bucks $$$ thrown at an instrument. The fact that 98% of guitar players lack the guitar skills to make it sing isn't the guitar's fault.
I own the 2020 Original G45 Studio. It's a great guitar, but this one definitely comes down a few notches. Wish they would have kept the version I have, but it would be to much of a competitor to the higher end models, as it already was.
They're fine guitars but they really look like Gibson versions of the Martin X series and for the price I don't like that. I think for what they're asking there was room for at least some different colors!
Have you tried the 2019 g45. It is much better. Not the same specs. I dont understand why they changed it. Great review. EVERY other review is trying to sell it, or their own '$15,000' piece of crap.
Or you could buy an Eastman for half the price and end up with a much better sounding and far better built instrument. But you can't buy an Eastman from Sweetwater, and because most channel owners in the RUclips guitarverse seem to actually be unofficial Sweetwater employees (sans retirement and healthcare benefits) we don't get Eastman reviews. And so it goes.
In my opinion, the sound was muddy. My #1 guitar is a Gibson J-35 and I love it and find it heads and shoulders above this G-45. I have other brands too , including two value guitars (Eastman E40D and E10D). In my opinion, the sound I hear from this G-45 doesn't touch them. I have an OM mahogany Guild that sounds similar. My opinion, based on what I am hearing, is that there are other guitars around (not Gibsons) that sound better for the same or less dollars.
I really like the tone. But hey. I'd play the heck out it. I've always wanted to have a Gibson. A 00 one but I like that this isn't too bassy. The two main guitars I have now are "high end" Chinese guitars. So for a couple hundred less they have more features but there are ethical questions about those that you don't have to worry about with this Gibson. I mean my D'angelico (OM) Tammany is second to nothing almost in terms of tone and quality. And those are now $999 new. So it's pretty crazy now that Chinese guitars are coming with premium deluxe appointments. I mean this has to compete with the high end Epiphone acoustics. Yikes.
The biggest problem with reviews that are not top end priced is that they do not get reviewed on a level field. I.E. good for the money .... buuuuzzzz. Compare all guitars equally.
I recently bought the Eastman E1SS, all solid wood, Adirondack top, sapele back and sides. Great sounding, beautifull handmade, same model as this one, slope shoulder, same price. This looks cheap, soundhole is terrible, thin sounding....... if i would buy a Gibson would buy a real one, for this price their are a lot better guitars on the market, Eastman, Blueridge, Takamine, Epiphone, Sigma and lots more!
The old G series o was actually better and more affordable. Why the gimmicks? It's not necessary. They have cheapened with shortcuts and up the price. Not bad for its target customer but I would still rather have a Road series from Martin, especially with their pricing at this time.
U r just buying the brand..😁 everything in US is so expensive now..😁 until now I still can’t justify spending for the 3 brands - M, T, G with electronic and full bells and whistles, torrefied guitar..🤣 maybe I’m not pro player..
Thanks for the shout out. Agree with your points about Gibson trying to sell the logo on the headstock, and hoping you don't notice the shortcuts. Also, the comments from Gibson fans can be fairly zealous, best of luck! P.S. we think your hat looks cool.
Anyoe who’s tried the OG G45 will immediately see how much of a lame duck this new G45 is. $500 maybe, $1200 hell no.

I still can't believe they put the finish on after the fitting of the neck corner cutting at its finest
There are European brands like Furch and Dowina that are dissolving the notion of mid price quality and desirability being out of reach to most of us budget restricted players. Beware the big names, they're coming to get you.
I've been trying to get a Furch!
Exactly like Yamaha
My G00 totally SMOKES my Blueridge, and Recording King and the later 2 have been played for years and have opened up. The G00 is brand new.
@@67Zink what brand is the G00?
@@67Zink Fair enough. I'm glad you're enjoying your G00. That's what all this is about anyway; playing and enjoying your guitar arsenal.
There's no way I'd pick this guitar over a X series Martin. And for half the price.
I have the first generation g45 studio it's a good guitar I'm glad it doesn't have the sound port like the new ones great review as always
I wonder if the labour cost of finishing the sound port was put into binding it would address the durability and lack of bass response in one move.
Great video as always!
Or the finish. I tried one and the finish does not feel very appealing.
Or the bracing. Check Driftwood Guitars for the details.
Thanks for the review Jeremy so far I haven’t heard much positive feedback about these but I hope to try one someday. I do think it’s pretty hard to justify a new G45 for $1200 when you could save up a couple hundred more and buy a used J 15 though.
I'd get a J-15 in a HEARTBEAT!
In another channel a luthier cut it in half and the top is really poor made sadly all the glue and braces doesn’t look good but yeah
Hi Jeremy
I am near you in Richmond and enjoy your videos.
Where are you buying new US made acoustics for $400?
@@dragoonphotography5847 You are not buying any US made Acoustics for that amount , but that is not the point. These are cheaply made guitars that sound crappy. There are a bunch of imports with laminate back and sides that sound way better . For Gibson , this is low quality
just watch the driftwood video where he cuts one in half and checks it out, sloppy workmanship, random pieces of wood glued in there, a plastic plug under the end pin, total total junk that either wasn't QCd or the QCer thought it fit to be sold for $1200
I've talked to Chris about his experience with it and love their channel. This was my take on it.
@@Felipe_de_Oliveira I assume they want to sell a load of them
I wonder if the port changes the bass response or adds treble reducing the PERCEIVED bass response. Thanks for the video, appreciate your work a lot!
It looks like an employee in training guitar got to start somewhere
Honesty and diplomacy….your trademark Jez.
The guitar (and you) sound great in the video. In other words the guitar records really well.
Does this G-45 Gibson have that Gibson Factory sweet Vanilla smell when its new?
No, it didn't. Smelled like a sauna, good but not sweet like others.
Jeremy,
I bought the “pre-generation” series G45 Studio this past April.
I feel the same for binding. I like the Taylor aesthetic more but am nervous about bumps.
I sold the G45
I truly like Gibson, but think they have better options, you just need to save a bit more or look for that really sweet used one. I found a L00 Studio Rosewood that a really enjoy playing. (I know, some say it’s not a true L00 Gibson but this one really shines for me).
Thank you again
I love my L-00 rosewood. So easy to play too. Very comfortable.
I bought one of these and absolutely love it
so,no binding-weak guitar!!?? as per martin dx1/2's??
13:30 isnt it just way too expensive for most beginners tho at 1000 dollars plus?
Long live the J-15, have you seen that video of mine?
The guitar is all wood and will sweeten with time when it opens up... this is a fact that seems lost to most reviewers ===esp ones that tend to lean towards the guitar snob camp. The fact of the matter is NO this isn't a guitar I would get for a HS student who can barely play a chord.. just like I wouldn't purchase a 2021 LT Camaro for someone who just got a driver's license.
Hey Jeremy,
If you closed the top sound port with a cover, would you get the bigger, bassy sound?
I agree everyone should have a j-45. I bought it while looking for a d-18.
I wouldn’t call myself a traditionalist but I can’t get over that sound port. I wonder if they got rid of the sound port could they have afforded to put on top binding for a similar price point?
At this price binding should be a must
Might be worthwhile to do a comparison with the Taylor AD17 and the G45.
It's coming!
I played one. I was not excited about it.
Что в коробке , полностью покажи, что с ним идёт ? Всё что там было , а?
I just dont know if I like that top sound hole
The great import guitar makers are able to put nice binding on
their lower priced guitars.
I just bought one a week ago, some corners cut, but all in all I like it 👌
I liked this one a lot too. Couple corners cut, like you said, but overall really likable.
Thank you
Not sure. I love my Yamaha FG830 and Alvarez AD66SHB. I also have a n Alvarez Anniversary 1965 Slope Shoulder that is great.
I have a masterworks MD60ebg that is almost too good to be true. So I bought my son a AD66SHB and again, just phenomenal.
Compare this 1 with the original run g45 with binding, electronics and case for 200 less. That's a great budget gibson acoustic. Probably why they shut that shit down
Trow in a few bucks more and buy the G45-standard; all the minussen are gone (except 4 the headstock decall)!
I tried one and was not impressed. You want a great sounding and well built but less expensive slope shoulder? Guilds Memoir is outstanding. Incredible tone and build quality for around $600 -700
Bottom line,sounds pretty good!
I agree that if you want a low-budget J-45, the Eastman is a better choice.
i saw one cut apart,it was crap inside.
Driftwood rocks!!
Buy a Yamaha Japanese red label, much more value and a tank of a guitar.
I agree with you.
I considered a G-45 before I bought an LL-16. I am so impressed with the sound and construction of the Yamaha. Very hard to beat for that price.
Love your channel
I have a luthier-built guitar with a soundport and GREAT bass, so I think you're wrong about that. But thanks for the review!
But your guitar is luthier made so it's gonna sound different/better isn't it on this guitar it's a gimmick
I would prob lean toward a Taylor 100/200 series for less/similar money, but I'm a Taylor guy.
Me too.
I think for what they're asking there was room for at least some different colors!
imho the guild marley sounds similar and is far less expensive...
It does i agree really nice gig bag to
Have you tried the 2019 g45.
I’m an Eastman fan. Their E10SS is a Gibson killer IMHO. And all their mahogany guitars are a cut above.
There’s no way you’re comparing this to an x series. I think these are a home run in sound and quality
Sounds like a takemine. Looks like a Denver.
The sound port turns me off. Nothing else is a deal breaker for me.
AND no sound port which I hate.
It has no binding
I just won the standard
1200 dollars , that's not cheap , for that kinda off money you can buy a lot better guitar .
I don't have the words to describe how I feel for this. Disappointing is just one of them.
The old G series o was actually better and more affordable. Why the gimmicks? It's not necessary. They have cheapened with shortcuts and up the price. Not bad for its target customer but I would still rather have a Road series from Martin, especially with their pricing at this time.
The Martin Road Series is a cut above the G-45!
U r just buying the brand..😁 everything in US is so expensive now..😁 until now I still can’t justify spending for the 3 brands - M, T, G with electronic and full bells and whistles, torrefied guitar..🤣 maybe I’m not pro player..
Dude, seriously. Turn the cap around.
Dude, seriously. Find yourself a hobby.
LOL!
Just waiting to see the added beer cans and straws 😂
Why would you say this?
Let the man live his life
More preferred the old G45 standard
