there's two things, 1-initial stability and 2-secondary stability. flat bottom boats are all about initial stability, secondary stability only happens to a flat bottom boat is when it's updside down. smart to sail into a wave, going down wind is surfing. what a great sky in this vid. thanks.

A really great video I thoroughly enjoyed it. I used to travel from Stanground into the Wash regularly in the early 1970s. One of my neighbours had a seagoing yacht moored at the end of their garden and we went in that. Of course we never went out when there was no wind and the sea was dead calm like when you went. Those conditions may be perfect for a narrow boat but not so for one with sails! That new style of video is much better, do more of them.

Hi. U 2. Boston deeps and inner and outer dousing are not to be messed with. The wash has a cyclone effect that travels from the Norfolk coast thru to Boston right up to Skegness. Lot of local fisherman with blue water boats would like to supplement their income with offering trips out there. Be good content to have these lads talking about things and supporting local economy.

This was a lovely video and the unplanned commentary worked well. I cycled into Boston from the Water Railway last month so some of the territory is familiar, albeit from a very different angle.
Boston seems to have lots of gorgeous historic buildings that don't seem to serve a purpose now.
Did you know that Fydell House in Boston has a room specifically for the use of visiting Americans?
If you're still in the area you could consider a detour to Sleaford (a short train ride but alas not possible by boat as you've previously discovered) to see the Navigation House, now a little museum dedicated to the history of the navigation.

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  2 месяца назад

ah, I knew there was a path along there but I didn't know the history or that it was called The Water Railway. We didn't know about Fydell House, is it worth a visit? The museum sounds interesting although I'm not sure well have time before we leave Boston now. Thanks for the info and suggestions.

@@MinimalList the Water Railway is a path from Boston to Lincoln that follows quiet roads and the route of a disused railway. I think I first heard it mentioned in one of your videos! Fydell House is a historic house near the Guildhall. I have to confess that I've passed it many times but have never been inside. The presence of the American Room is just something random that I recalled. There are links between the two Bostons and even an organisation called the Partnership of Historic Bostons.

I watch Spence at BC Lighthouse Keeper on You Tube and it is interesting to see his daily routine.Spence started as an assistant lighthouse keeper . The Lighthouse Keepers do not actually live in the lighthouse.
With automation it is not uncommon for them to be converted to other uses.Often the light remains operational and under control of the coastguard and other authorities including historical preservation societies.
Yes there are unique difficulties restoring lighthouses mainly because of their isolation.

I haven't heard of that channel, its always fascinating to see how other people live. I would think the best part of being a lighthouse keeper would be living at the lighthouse so it's disappointing to hear that he doesn't get to do that. Will have to give the channel a watch. Thanks!

@MinimalList The house he now lives in is big enough for a family and he is a single man so plenty of space for visiting keepers or contractors.
He gets to climb the lighthouse often as part of his daily routine.
I like to watch lots of channels about different homes from buses and trucks to ambulances and horse lorries etc.

You're lucky you could get out of Wisbech if you follow the local news about a month ago a bulk carrier did the Evergiven trick it did on the Suez Canal to that bit of River between Wisbech and Sutton Bridge. Luckily the next tide refloated the ship.

Hi guys, very familiar territory for me. The ship was discharged bagged cement.. Peter Scott, son of Scott of the Antarctic founded the WWF not the wrestling federation... The Book/Movie "Snow Goose" was all about the life and times of Scott. Squeezing a 3000ton vessel with a draft of 5m or more is a bit squeaky bum time...

Hey, Perseverance! It's been quite a while since we last caught up. I've been watching the latest vlogs and I really enjoyed the extra commentary in the video. Both of you seemed a bit more at ease this time on The Wash 2.0. George is 13 did he get a birthday party?!

He got some extra treats but you couldn't really call it a party. Glad you are enjoying the new vlogs. The commentary worked out well on the Wash Crossing considering we didn't plan to do it that way.

I was wondering about stability on the sea with a canal boat. No centerboard or lea boards would scare me having been a yachtsman for many years. I would fit a proa type out riggger. Or an old single Hobi cat hull.

You definitely don’t want to take a narrowboat out on anything but a quite calm see… that said they’re bloody heavy things and there’s a lot of ballast down low, so they’re not as wobbly as you might imagine either. M

Afaik That bridge is still swung from Boston Port, maybe once a week on a friday afternoon or less often. I was told it brings metal from the port and follows the track across the A16 spalding to Boston road where there is an aggregate yard. One of the big engines stops in a siding and takes the trucks from the dockyard diesel.
I have a video somewhere online of the dockyard train crossing the Bridge. I also watched other people's videos when the dockyard itself was covered in tracks
Here is my video I didn't realise was from 2021 ruclips.net/video/GVpmh8HPl3U/видео.htmlsi=VC1oXvtIMau71qnJ
This video below which is a year old, is by GBRF and doesn't cross the bridge

Good on the two of you people! I'm a first-time viewer. Looks like you're enjoying life! I'm not aware that there are a lot of Americans living in the UK married to Brits but that's great I'm happy to hear it! It's just not something you see online. I see it the other way around here in the US. If you haven't watched it you should. I love Guy Martin and purchased and read all of his books. He has an episode on one of his shows where he and his close friend repair a long boat and live on it. If you haven't seen it you're missing out. Bless both of you!!! I have placed suspect Daryl could be Canadian but I am just getting into your channel. Let me know if he is. It's not a bad thing FYI but just curious.😅.
