At (30:40), Michael Wong referred to “configurations” as a way to describe the medium of possibilities for molecules as Sean Carroll’s heat box cooled. As a counter-distinction, basic life forms, like slime molds, have an architecture that can internalize memory, learning, and choice, as a way to build agency that is dynamic and adaptive. Could the distinction between non-life and life be described in a more bounded way if “configurations” and “relationships” were used to describe their comparative differences, and relationships could be defined as dynamic, adaptive agency, and include relationships like parasitic, predatory, cooperative, etc.?
This research might tie in to Michael Levin’s and Kevin Mitchell’s works. The idea of organisms intrinsically problem-solving, perhaps in a cosmos with a potential for problem-solving built into it {for whatever reason(s)}.
I feel that hardnosed mainstream science is softening up to some more provocative metaphysics, or ways to think about reality, and i find it really refreshing and exciting.
I love how Wong acknowledged how difficult and still speculative life origin is when he said (paraphrase) the either the replication first or metabolism first camp might be correct. Or they might both be correct. They might also be wrong. There might be a better explanation yet to be figured out.
Great podcast and the end is very sweet. Awesome guest!
Brilliant conversation. ❤
Thanks for staying real.
Thank You for Sharing🙏🏼
Interesting. This seems very similar to free energy principle. Has those links been explored?

This was so nice!
