I actually love some of those reprocessed stereo mixes. They have a haunting, mystical & psychedelic vibe to my ears. Blues from outerspace. They are a great addition to the original mixes in my opinion. I'm glad we have em. Thanks for another great video guys! ⚡
You know, that's a really cool way to describe them! As a purist, I generally don't grab those mixes - but they do take me back to that era when I do! Thanks for sharing that!
Brings back such great memories First of all the long box of Golden Records CD When those releases came out I was working at Musicland. Actually they in 1984-85 as part of commemoration of Elvis 50th Birthday RCA issued a good number of releases. Among them were 4 albums reissued in mono. At that time the only releases were repressed stereo, which were the only releases I had, so listening to this restored mono was a revelation The 4 reissued mono were the first 2 studio albums and the first 2 Gold records compilations At Musicland we got a shipment of those 4 albums on CD but they were in repossessed stereo. Thinking that was a mistake instead of an error , passsed on those waiting for the mono which I was really waiting to hear. Years later when I found that was an error I thought I missed my shot on a collectors item, but I am glad you said the value of those are not as high as they once were On Collectors Gold I don’t know how many times I played the Vegas disc. That was a revelation for me I agree on the Top Ten Hits a fantastic playlist, but the sound of the CD ouch!!!! Loved the Memphis Disk, especially for one of the best opening tracks on an Elvis disc with Sranger in my own Hometown!!!!!!
That's awesome, Louis! Thank you for sharing those great memories with us! And yeah, the sound on some of these is definitely lacking, lol - but others not bad at all!
I finally remember walking to the back wall in my local Best buy and seeing all those Elvis CD box sets that I couldn't afford. But I did feel really cool wearing my Elvis musical t-shirt to school in those days.
Love this video, guys! Can I tell you something Jamie/John ..."Elvis: The Memphis Record 1969 in Review" is my FAVOURITE Elvis record of all time!! I think the "flow" and sequencing of the track listing, when you listen through, absolutely kills 'Elvis In Memphis'/'Back In Memphis', as a record! If Elvis had released this record back in 1969, this would've been the "signature release" of his career! ...the "Thriller" or "Sgt Pepper" or "Hotel California" of his catalogue, if you like! My favourite Elvis release by far! 😉😄☝️👍
remember walk it to record shop see all the on the shelf look so cool all good fun look back in time thankyou for show the cool video of all the good cds look forword more cool video guys hope both cool weekend take care
Hey guys, these old school long boxes are so cool. The artwork really pops on them. We didn't have those here in Australia. However I wonder how many of these outer boxes survived or were discarded along the way (believe it or not people actually 'lost patience' & tossed the now-highly-collectable outer box & inner tray of the original "Let It Be" box set back in the day 😮). They don't look that sturdy and I guess they suffered from wear & tear just opening & closing them. Had that with some of today's smaller slip cases and stupidity of having the CD opening inside the gatefold. Those are prone to tearing just pulling the disc out. 😮 My first real exposure to "From Elvis In Memphis" was "The Memphis Record" CD which I read about in a special Australian magazine called "The Ultimate CD" which was about the then burgeoning CD market and what was recommended to people wanting to build their collections. It listed the '100 Ultimate CD collection' we should have. At the time, record companies were just getting their acts together release wise. That list would be much different today. My ears were opened by "Memphis Record". I discovered a new respect for the great man. I eventually found a proper vinyl version of the album and virtually know it from beginning to end. It just goes to show that you're never to old to learn about classic music. 😊😊 I love these kinds of videos. There's so much cool stuff out there. Please keep showing these things, particularly for your international viewers like me. It's always interesting. Cheers guys. Love your work. 👍👍
Thank you so much, Peter - and thank you for sharing those memories! You're absolutely right about the outer packages generally being pretty flimsy, especially once they were opened! Some of these we got when they were new, and some from an auction back in 2002 or so. Very glad to have them!
As for the “From His Roots”, the correct song title is, “Little Cabin Home On The Hill”, not “Little Cabin On The Hill”. Sorry, my ocd was getting me. 😊
Bought and loved all of these when they came out, like all the different mixes on "the Memphis record",Gentle on my mind" being a favorite! Yes,gold records one sounded like crap on the early cd release,i read that when they put out those restored to mono vinyls in the 80's they actually sourced them from the fake stereo tapes.. ridiculous!
Hi, Dan! That's cool that you got these back then, too! And yeah - once we get the channel built up, I want to dive deeper into the generations of Elvis CDs and their origins. I think it could be interesting to look more into exactly how we got where we are now. (Even if some of the steps taken were a bit odd! 🤣)
I still have the long box top 10 hits. I've never figured out why anyone would buy the number 1 hits at that time. I would like both on vinyl today, but at the time ?
I completely understand that! At the time, I was buying everything just to have a "complete" collection, though that impulse has long since graduated to complete sessions, lol 😁
My favorite EAP Society Episode! ...another reason for the Long Box Format US CD Editions Package was to make it difficult to grab it and "forget" to buy it in the Store...😉 "One Night With Elvis" an Import european CD on the "CARD Records" Label was released on rights for free in Europe; btw the CD sounds horrible (Source Vinyl Crackles Sound). The CD Cover Design is a "Clambake" Photosession Pic! Back in the days, i've bought every Long Box US CD Edition! It was very expensive back in those days but very cool and sounds different (most not so good) if to compare it with the Europe and Japan CD Editions. I still have my USA Long Box Paper Cover's in my Collection saved😉 Thank You John and Jamie!
I haven’t got any of the cds your showing as I don’t think they were sold here in the uk, I do have a few long box bootlegs from the 1990s I always thought them odd as storage is a problem amongst a big collection of cds … “Elvis cutting them down to size” being one off the top of my head without checking Great video as always Jamie n John 👍🏻 Craptacular!! 😁😂
Oh, yeah - I remember that CD, too, and some of the other bootlegs in that style! Really unique packaging, for sure! And thank you so much, so glad you liked it! (And yep, "craptacular" is a particularly favorite word, I think I got it from "The Simpsons" back in the 90s, lol)
Reminds me, they should try to reinvigorate the CD medium for a modern audience by emulating the superb Japanese 7" mini-LP like packages complete with obi strip and booklet. They're kind of similar to the classic album FTD's but on another level aesthetically. A reimagined mainstream legacy series in this format [in conjunction with vinyl counterparts] could be incredible with the right people involved.
"Don't", and "Love Me" two of the greatest ballades sung by anyone anywhere. May I add; "I Need You So", "It Hurts Me" and the much later, "Hurt". I am amazed that Sony haven't put together a good Ballad Album by Elvis. After all That's what he wanted to be, when stepping through the door at The Memphis Recording Service/ SUN Records. As evidence his first two sided acetate. Both ballads. Events initially over took the ballad idea, and a new sound created, with "Blue Moon" a mournful ballad, at the end of Elvis' sun Period still haunts in its listening today.
There are at least 100 ballads scattered throughout Elvis' 700 song catalogue. Starting with "That's When Your Heartaches Begin" and possibly ending with "Hurt". If Sony/RCA did a future Ballad Album correctly, and made it into an affordable 3CD and Vinyl release it would be a sure winner. Come on Ernst, what's taking you so long? stay safe and go well.@@EAPSociety

CD 3 On Collectors Gold is a ripper. Live in Vegas.
For their time, most of these Longboxes were terrific.
Very true, on both counts! The art on this style is especially nice, too! I get why they don't do this anymore, but I do miss this style of box art.
Thank you very much for sharing this. I haven’t seen these boxes before. Very interesting video 👍🥰❤️
You're very welcome, Mildred! So glad you enjoyed it!
Nice to see all these long boxes
Thank you! I honestly didn't realize I had this many! 😁
Thank you gents for bringing me back to my teens and 20's and taking my pay check and spending it on these long box cd's. What a fantastic episode!
Thank you so much, Michael! And you're very welcome - we're happy to! 😂😁
The Lost Album is a awsome cd😊
Oh, yeah! Still have great memories of thay CD!

Very cool about the shirts, Nicky! Sorry to hear about the box sets, though!
