    Yeah - I hate cleaning. Avoiding conflict, yes. And being alone is Super Important!

    To me, the floor is the biggest shelf in my house!
    Is that pile of laundry clean, dirty, or dirty-clean?
    The correct answer is "Yes."

  • @katerinadoratoma8224
    @katerinadoratoma8224 7 лет назад +64

    Vacuum in the middle of the room - check
    Clean laundry left on the bed for days before it gets back to its place - check
    Drawer full of unrelated stuff - check
    ...and everything you just said - Check!
    But, messy as I may be, I lived with people that were worse (leaving dishes dirty for weeks, with rotten food on them, or sleeping on a pile of dirty clothes, etc)
    Idk about other Infps,but for me...messy is ok as long as it's not dirty...And when the mess cannot be ignored anymore, then all hell breaks loose and nobody wants to be around me when i start the cleaning process :))) i'm like a hurricane haha! And i get crazy with little details, like a little spot of grease that won't come off and nobody sees but me :))
    I cannot imagine what is like to also have kids and have to clean after them too...I have 2 cats and they make the most mess so...
    Anyway, great video! It's the first time I comment on one of your videos but I have been "stalking" you for a long time :))) we are very much alike 😊

      Katerina Dora Toma Hey Katerina!! I'm so glad you get it 😂 and it's great that we can normalise organised chaos. I know what you mean about the dirty plates. my INTP ex left plates under the desk which sat his computer (he is a gamer surprise) haha. anyway, I'm so glad you commented and thank you for following :)

    Your place looks pretty tidy to me. I just can't seem to keep any surfaces clear for long. Table, dressing table, chest of drawers ... all end up with piles of clutter on top of them. Every so often I get pissed off with it all and do a grand tidying, but then the clutter gradually builds up again. The downside is that I spend WAY too much of my time looking for things.

      Sandy A Oh man!😂😂 I'm so the same! Been living with a controlling thinker/judging type for too long and been sooo hard on myself for far too many years! So nice to know I'm not alone and really starting to accept and love myself for who I am again. Proud to be a messy, non-conforming, sparkly INFP-T! 💖💖

      I'm an INFP and yes I have my organized piles of clutter. I do a full or half cleaning depending on the state of my place. I have a 2 1/2 yr old and a 5 month old so toys and stuff get everywhere (not to mention I'm a single mom living alone). I also avoid conflict like the plague. I tend to take forever explaining myself because I guess my wording isn't always the best(especially when I'm speaking quickly) so my friends by this time know to just wait as I ramble and I'll eventually figure out how to word it to where I'm not the only one who understands what I'm trying to say. Sometimes I'm very emotional and sometimes I don't really feel much emotion because I'm turning it off or I have other things to focus on. Hopefully when the day comes that someone lives with me again they won't mind these things so much

  • @sasushumi7213

    When you said "typical INFP behavior" at around the 3:00 mark, it made me feel like we sometimes subconsciously justify our bad habits and actions by thinking "oh that's just my personality type".
    For example, the tidying up thing. I also struggled a bit with it but by adding it to my checklist (yes I use checklists 😂) and believing that that would encourage me to actually clean up and be tidy, it worked. Now I clean up by force of habit and my house is always spotless without me thinking about it.
    Just food for thought. We should not make excuses for every behavior and hide behind labels.
    P.S. I don't actually enjoy using checklists 😂 but it leads to more productivity than just depending on spontaneity.

      I only recently learned about personality types and the fact that I am INFP - I'm in a relationship with someone that I'm positive is ISTJ. We are so different, but I'm hoping we are compatible for the long haul. I know there are things about me that completely frustrate him. Advice or tips of any kind for INFP/ISTJ relationships you'd like to share would be greatly appreciated!

    Growing up was hard because most of my family are more extroverted. I was constantly accused of sitting in my room and just staring at the wall accomplishing nothing, not being smart enough or nice enough to notice when a chore should be done, not caring about being with them, never cleaning my room, etc.
    I still get told that I should be on a medication because to them it seems like the right way to "fix" me so we can finally get along.
    Of course, it was merely my introversion and these tendencies that they were seeing. I've adapted a little, but honestly anyone I have lived with outside of my family has been loads more understanding.

    I can relate to the messiness but it bugs me and I try to work on it. I tend to get onto others around me for being messy like my kids when teens and my ex and all his stacks everywhere. Can relate to people not understanding my need for solitude and thinking me aloof or too preoccupied with my head matters. Thanks for doing these videos!

    This video is hysterical 😂😂😂 Im an infp and i live with my intp partner. He's veeeeerrry tidy and minimalist and everywhere has its space and place. Im like you .... washed clothes strewn everywhere, piles of paperwork that dont make sense to anyone but me, unfinished artwork on the walls, collections of strange items (particularly 100s of books). My partner and I decided to give me my own room for my closet, computer desk and dressing table so that he can shut the door and the rest of the house is tidy 😂😂😂 before i met him though, the whole house was"organised chaos" now its just one room

    Cleaning is not my thing but I do like it when things are organized after so then I feel ashamed that I don't clean more often. I do make lists when I feel overwhelmed and stressed about what needs to be done, like before a trip or when there are a lot of bills to pay.
    Laughed at your unfinished painting as I have 2 hanging up unfinished as well. 😉

    I struggle to live with other people. I lived quite happily with my ex husband but I had a room I could escape to. I now live with my son and daughter (fortunately my daughter is also INFP and my son likes his space too).
    Like you I am so messy and I also decided to DIY fully refurbish my house including replastering from scratch, stripping floors, ripping out my kitchen, tearing up my driveway and redoing my garden from scrarch...and the jobs are all started and not finished. You can just imagine the chaos.
    You are very brave showing your house, I think we value our privacy a lot so I can imagine that made you feel very vulnerable.

  • @simeonismyname

    Totally not a tidy person. I don't "notice" small things like things out of place or hair on the sink or accumulated empty toilet paper rolls around the bathroom, haha! I notice things that MATTER, not this stuff that doesn't really matter. I have lived with people who were the opposite of me and it was very hard. Some people stress farrrrr too much over small things, but that's just their type and I think peace of mind is more important, as an INFP, of course.

    I had a neat-freak father who asked me why I set up camp everywhere I go. I am now living with an ESTJ, who is a complete neat-freak. The poor man. I have designated mess areas, e.g. my half of the coffee table. His half is always empty. He loves routine and structure, and I just don't do either of them. Every meal time is a pain in the nethers! It feels like I spend my life waiting to grow up and find out why it is important to do painfully 'normal' stuff. Does buying toilet paper and milk ever become less of a torture?

    I can relate to most of your things except cleanliness, maybe that's because I keep a check on myself. Most of the time I get attracted to my interests, but I make sure to finish basic organization. I can't allow myself not cleaning because I feel so scared of accumulating stuff; that's why most of time I'm into multitasking which I absolutely don't like, but have no other option. Also, it helps keeping things tidy and give me some more time to spend in my head. Confrontation is the last thing I want to do. Awesome, keep up the good work...

    I ( as an INFP) am married to an ISTJ and he is messier than me! Mmmh, perhaps not messier but he starts things and then some other thing comes into his mind and our apartment is filled with half-done things (like leaving the vacuum cleaner in the middle of the room after cleaning because he wanted to do something else at the same time or his clothes all over the floor because after changing something more important than putting his things away comes into his mind ).
    When it comes to my messiness I just don't seem to have energy to clean everything every day or putting washed clothes in the drawers right away 🙈
    I hate it when it is messy and I could cry every day but as a working mom I just didn't know when to clean up all this mess.... It is not dirty, that is very important to me, but it is messy all the time.
    Perhaps the perfectionist in me is the problem - my mom is a narcissist and I was her scapegoat-child and especially when I wasn't as tidy as she wanted it she gave me the silent treatment for days or even weeks 😔

  • @moonsister5810
    @moonsister5810 7 лет назад +1

    Watching this was a bit scary because I felt quite busted!
    I have my own kind of order, too, and I generally know what area to look for things. Tidiness has gotten better in the new flat after I got shelfs with boxes where I can just throw things in (like the bills and salary printouts of the bast 4 years or so..). I hate cleaning and cooking. My windows havent been cleaned in a year. I just forget about stuff like that and my brain ignores the stainsto appreciate the bird nesting in the tree outside. There is no wonder in tidiness!
    I try to avoid conflict but get aggressive when backed into a corner. And pushed over the edge (or having a righteous cause) Im like "you want a war, you can have one"....I never hit below the belt though, even when furious.
    I think one additional thing comes to mind what could tick people off- I can get very absentminded and abrasive when someone disrupts my flow or alone time. Luckily my partner is an INTJ and needs his cave time as well so he understands. Plus he tells me when I am an ass and not aware of it. Its also really cool to have him with an analytical mind to bounce my weird ideas off of- I just need to be careful he doesnt dismantle or brushes the gold dust off them.

    Lol! I think my youngest daughter may be and enfp. She's a little tornado. I'm clean, but lots of clutter as an infj. When I clean and tidy up, it doesn't last too long. Once when I shared an apartment with my brother, we were robbed. The cops warned us that they ransacked my bedroom, but my brother ratted me out and said it looked like that before. Sad, but true.😏

    Scary....but true....sigh! I'm 58, making beats on FL STUDIO, while watching youtube clips while the kitchen bench is a sprawl of items that mostly don't belong even in the kitchen, when instead I should be preparing for a 360 mile away holiday trip I'm going on tomorrow morning to a place I'm unfamiliar with, taking an INTJ friend from Texas for a short holiday in the south of Western Australia, to try and do activities that may or may not appeal to him until I find out what judgment he makes when we get there. Sigh!

    I was in a living situation with my cousin and another guy, both were pretty sexist as I figured out after moving in... It didn't take me long to realize that they just assumed all woman were tidy 'nesters'. I am clean but I'll be damned if I will clean up after someone if I'm not in a romantic relationship with them, so it pissed them off that I didn't clean or make the place look nice.

Whenever i come to her house her bed is undone...Love her though..i am sometimes impulsive and she’s always more cautious..
    I’m messy as well but she is way more messy. I’m more disorganized than messy...I mean on the surface everything is clean and tidy but i barely know where my things are and they are all over the place. Disorganized chaos. My mess level is 7/10 hers is 9/10.

Now they are almost teenagers...
      It’s funny you do those things out of boredom as well - I once talked with a British accent for 2 months just for funsies... I’m sure the kids will look back at these things with fondness when they’re older ❤️

    She hates when she tells me to do something, and I don't do it immediately, or when someone calls me asking for help, and I help them for free, even before doing my own things first.
    She also gets mad at me when I tell her off in front of whoever it is when she does something I consider it's not right, or annoys me, despite the fact that the neighbour in front of us is neither an example of anything, but anyway she tells me that I am supporting the shitty neighbour's behaviour by doing it.

    I realize I may be an "odd" INFP but I can't keep track of anything unless it has a specific place that it goes...and for that reason I've trained myself to put things where they belong...that is, AFTER the messes I create when I'm working on a project...and those projects are one after another...sometimes completed...sometimes to be completed at a later date....but I have to put everything away before starting on "the next thing" or I'll drive myself nuts. I would actually prefer that everything is put where it belongs all the time, but that drive to be always creating is constantly in conflict with that desire. I guess there are many things besides our MBTI that influence our behaviors...

    For me, the hardest thing to clean is dust, and the hardest thing to sort is papers and odds and ends and such. I know where my clean clothes go (unless they're in a state of disrepair), and I know where dirty clothes go. I know where pens and notebooks and regular books go (I have a genre-based system), and I know where my decorations go. I can vacuum and wash dishes and even clean the bathroom and scrub the kitchen... But dusting under all my knick knacks? No thanks. Sorting that stack of mail and operating manuals and flyers handouts? No clue. How to sort the old phones cords and things from my childhood? Bye.

    I was diagnosed with adhd at 25. I’m now 36. I’m learning about my personality as an INFP. I’m wondering if our personality type ever gets misdiagnosed as adhd.
    A lot of similar traits.

      I’ve asked the very same!! So many of the symptoms overlap with INFP traits ... docs put me on ADHD meds at 35, and not really sure if they help - I work from home so it’s very easy to get distracted when I should be working (like now!) 😬

    It's all about priorities, not that important to me . Arts and infp so yup a piler. Also deal with an inflammatory disorder, so it's all about priorities

    I think you are an INFJ. Did you look up the cognitive functions?

    • @Lexmorningstarnz
      @Lexmorningstarnz  7 лет назад +4

      Sarah D I'm interested to know why you think I could be an INFJ? 😊
      I definitely identify with the INFP cognitive functions. like the ISFP, I don't like my values being messed with (Fi) - I think that's why I easily butt heads with people whom display opposite ideas and expectations in a living situation. I once lived with a woman (ESTJ) who told me she thought it was ridiculous that I have social anxiety yet decided to get tattoos and colour my hair blue. That statement pushed my buttons as those attributes made me an individual and had nothing to do with anxiety. Feeling like an individual (4w5) is probably my biggest value and to have that be trodden all over brings out what I like to call the fire-breathing dragon (from the Fi cave) 😤😂😙
      The silly thing is I felt like I couldn't tell her that her comments offended me because I can't deal with conflict (unless it's conflict with people I love and trust). That's something I want to be better at.

      Infjs can also butt head with people when their values are being stumbled upon (not everything you read online is true). I'd recommend you look up the Information elements (another Word for cognitive functions) on sociotype. Look for "Introverted ethics" (which is Fi) And extraverted Intuition. Here is a link: www.sociotype.com/socionics/information_elements/Fi
      The Information on this Website is more accurate that's why I recommend it.

      Sarah D That's very thorough and I enjoyed reading Fi and Ne from that angle. I'm still a little confused however at why I could possibly come across as INFJ? Do I display to you a strong Ni specific to INFJ? 😊

    • @dsarah60
      @dsarah60 7 лет назад +1

      You always look over your head, something many Infjs do, and you are not all over the place with your thoughts, like an Ne-type. And you always come to the point.
      You move your eyebrows the way an extraverted feeler does it. You are not "stone-faced" like an introverted feeler. You are physically active in your videos (for example you move your hands and sometimes practically jump into the camera --> Se). Maybe you should look up Ni here: www.sociotype.com/socionics/information_elements/Ni Keep in mind: "Leading function" means dominant function and "creative function" means auxiliary/secondary. (Also look up Fe.)
      I know that this might seem like a lot of information and you might be very sure about your type but there are just so many mistyped people out there and I just want to bring a bit more clarity into the theory. Many people have not understood the theory completely and still think that they are a type they are not. I might be wrong and you might acually be an infp, who knows, but as far as I understand you mostly seem to relate to introversion, shyness, idealism etc.. These are characteristics you could as well find in an infj.

      Sarah D Gotta chip in here. As I live with Alex I have to admit her on camera personal for this channel is a little different to how she really is in real life. she's alot more reservered in person than in her videos. In social situations she tends to not speak at all. I think she fits the Infp criteria from what I have read about them. Alex is bang on an Infp Imo. But I think there is a lot more to people than just one personality type so you may be onto something here.
