Having driven a Geo Metro, I can tell you that little cars like these FEEL faster than they are.

Had a 1.0l Micra K11 for years, or actually my wife did, but I liked to go out and drive around the village with it. They are delightful little cars. Seeing the compression ratio of the engine I always felt it would be suitable to turbo it. Ours did have rust issues though, and I repaired it a few times to keep it in good shape, then my brother in law drove in it for a good couple more years. I sometimes miss that cute little car.
