Imagine losing your entire culture and people gone in what seems to be a day. I can never imagine how hurt some people are. Being a target of a genocidal maniac who wants to rule the world.
Imagine the pain Aang must have felt when he saw Gyatso's skeleton. No child should bare that type of pain, Aang is by far one of the most bravest and strongest character.
I think Gyatso was happy in his final moments, that Aang didn't witness the destruction of his culture first-hand. His love for Aang has not left this world, it is still in Aang's heart, and it is reborn, in the form of new love.
As much as Aang regretted running away from the air temple, if he had stayed Sozin would've wiped all the airbenders from existence. That means that the next Avatar born would have no one to teach them airbending (because they're all dead). The next Avatar could've only possibly learned 3/4 elements and would never be able to bring balance to the world.
However I sort of view it as this. The avatar can learn all the elements and can probably teach themselves how to practise the fundamentals of any bending. It’s not like they need a teacher really, they have thousands of powerful avatar spirits in them that can teach them the mastery of every element. Plus even if they don’t somehow learn a bending form through asking their past lives they can just enter the avatar state and utilize all elements.
Mecrook but in order for the avatar to connect to their past lives they need to find peace and balance within their spirit (another word for meditation) and to do this, the avatar need an Airbender expert who could teach them spiritual enlightenment. Take aang for example he himself being an air nomad, making it easy for him to enter the spirit realm and seek for his past wisdom. Korra however, always seem to struggle about these stuffs until she was helped by Jinora an air nomad
Mecrook so yea without the help of air bender, it would be extremely difficult or even impossible for the avatar to connect to their past lives and to enter the spirit world
@@gangdulfthewhyte4092 And also assuming that if Sozin had killed the Air nomads and Aang along with them, leaving Korra to be the Avatar that takes down the Fire Lord and saves the world, the Avatar cycle would've restarted just like it did for her in Legend of Korra. "You have indeed felt a great loss. But love is a form of energy and it swirls all around us. Your love for the air nomads have not left this world, it is still inside of your heart and is reborn into new love."
The Air Nomads are my favourite nation of all Avatar's franchise, even with the little piece of information that we know about them. They were incredibly powerful: when the genocide began the Fire Nation attacked the temples with a numerous army, having the advantage of surprise in their favor, with all the power of the Sozin's Comet and the best military technology of the moment. The Air Nomads on the other hand were numerically inferior, without army or warrior tradition, they didn't have defenses (only the height of their location). They had a very small population that most were children and newborns, that means that the monks able to fight were very few and at the same time they fought, they had to protect the children, which means they were not 100% focused on fighting... and with all these disadvantages the monks killed thousands of soldiers of the Fire Army (the dozens of dead around the monk Gyatso, the armors and signs of struggle that were throughout the temples) Even Sozin had to wait 12 years for the arrival of the comet and thus be able to start the attack. Zaheer with a couple of weeks of airbending, suffocated a person to death without any difficulty (so it is obvious that the great monks knew this and other more deadly techniques but didn't use this techniques unless they were in real danger) Imagine the deadly techniques that monks used to protect themselves from firebenders, such as suffocation but in large areas, annihilating entire squadrons, using air to cut etc. If the monks could have the information of the oncoming attack, they could created a defense plan and genocide would have been impossible.
It's a shame that we know so little about them... for example I still don't understand how their society worked: what happened to the parents of he children sent in monasteries (Aang's parents for example are never mentioned), and how did the people who were not in monasteries (aka normal families without airbending abilities) lived ?
Completely agree with you. The only question that you asked and I can answer (because I read it in an official book) is that there were no families or members who didn't have powers. ALL members of the Air Nomads were airbenders. All members of the Air Nation were monks and nuns with a high level of spirituality. It's that great connection with the Universe and nature that allowed all air nomads to be airbenders. Also this is something that has to do with balance: they had a very little population (very many less in comparison with the other nations) so it's as if "nature granted" all Air Nomads with airbending to be equated with other nations. There is nothing official about the parents. What we do know from the canon is that temples were centers of study, training, nurseries and temporary shelters. The monks and nuns traveled the World and when they were near they arrived at the temples. I believe (it is my theory) that during these trips the nuns were pregnant by the monks (it was never said that all were obliged to practice celibacy, and how they are inspired by the Buddhist monks who in many congregations have permitted form families, it's not so strange to think this could happen). Then the nuns gave birth and the newborns were put in the temples to be educated. Maybe later they could meet their parents, although they are only conjectures because the authors never said anything about this.
While what you say is true i doubt the fire nation feared the power of the air nomads. The biggest problem for the fire nation was that if they attacked any time the air nomads would just leave , and all of sozis plans qould fail they waited for the sozins comet most likely to be able to fly (firebenders could fly then) and they just attacked with nothin more than firebenders at the monasterys . It’s crazy how unfair the attack on the air nomads was. I mean, they obviously couldn’t kill the firebenders cuz it’s against their beliefs, all they could do is hold them back for the rest and even then they didn’t stand a chance because of how powerful the firebenders were at the time. I wish the other nations came to their aid
Gyatso didn’t die to the fire benders he killed them all and because it was against the air nomads code so he mediated until he died . His corpse was up right and had no signs of injury and he was also very old
Too bad we never REALLY seen alot of the air nomads they are so amazing as people and they are chill af i wish we could see more of them before the war,in harmony with the other nations...😭
Well it isn't truly certain that really ALL where killed by said traps. I still believe a very small number of air nomads avoided these traps too and successfully hid inside the other nations (earth kingdom mainly). But the art and culture was still lost since these refugees couldn't airbend anymore for obvious reasons and didn't teach their kids (if they had kids)

Wonderful video. A very under examined part of the show I think. They may never have actually used the word but what happened to the air nomads was 100% genocide & Aang + the fire nation have to live with that for the rest of thier lives. They're all gone. He woke up with almost he's entire culture destroyed without a chanse to defend them or say goodbye. He woke up the last of he's kind. He's home turned into a grave site. I think if something like that happened to most people, especially as a child, they wouldn't be able to forgive the country responsible for a very long time, maybe not ever.

There's nothing to apologize for, don't worry ! As I said, these things are really personal, not everyone is going to agree on THE scene that should have been used at THAT moment, that's part of what makes vidding diverse !
I do think the most logical outcome of Sozins attack is that by forcing our AirNomads out of their temple, their culture, their way of life (which AirNomads retain their bending), Airbenders that left their temples and residing in other territories dislocated from their home, they would eventually lose their connection to Airbending.
it still sickens me tbh I mean how can someone, anyone just wipe out an entire race of a peaceful people that did nothing wrong to anyone, they just wanted to be left alone in peace but because of one man an entire culture was wiped out for decades
Guys I have just had a mind blowing thought so the fire nation slaughtered the air nomads because the avatar goes going to be a air bender then does that mean they would gave slaughter the water tribes because after air its water then after that the would have slaughter the earth kingdom citizens until it came back to them.
@@suunduus8474 did you watch the show? they had been going after the northern tribe for a long time too,the northern tribe was just strong enough to keep them back.
You know in season 3 the headband when Sokka gave the Aang the headband. And he is like I won’t go out if I can’t wear my arrow proudly and Sokka is like Aang be reasonable” I was like he always has to be reasonable!!! Let him wear his arrow! Let him be angry dammit he a kid not a freaking adult!
Many great and wise air nomads have detach themselves to received spiritual enlightenment 😥 like what uncle iroh say the air nomads detach themselves from worldly concern to found peace
While the whole Harmonic Convergence thing is slightly controversial among the fan base. Mostly due to Korra losing her connection with the past Avatars. I think we can agree the reappearance of Airbenders was a good thing as it helped to restore a near dead element. Thus ensuring that no matter what, the Avatar cycle can survive into the next Airbender.

I really love your videos! They inspire me very much!
Thank you very much for your comment ! :D
This brought back so much feelings
What a beautiful video with a beautiful song choice. Thank you for making this :)
I’m an air sign so this hit different
I AM LITERALLY CRYING
imma take a break from this marathon cuz i start crying
Poor Aang :'(
This is amazing!!! I am currently working on my first avatar music video as a tribute to the show but since its my first it is sadly watermarked
thank you ! yeah starting to make tributes is hard, but keep it up, youtube definitely needs more avatar !
Rip airbenders (9,829bg-0ag)
Bg?
vivacious “bg” in the world of avatar is a timeline before the genocide. AG means years after the genocide
it still sickens me tbh I mean how can someone, anyone just wipe out an entire race of a peaceful people that did nothing wrong to anyone, they just wanted to be left alone in peace but because of one man an entire culture was wiped out for decades
You did it again...
Thank you!
Guys I have just had a mind blowing thought so the fire nation slaughtered the air nomads because the avatar goes going to be a air bender then does that mean they would gave slaughter the water tribes because after air its water then after that the would have slaughter the earth kingdom citizens until it came back to them.
why do you think they went after all the waterbenders in the southern water tribe?
But the avatar could have been from the northern water tribe
@@suunduus8474 did you watch the show? they had been going after the northern tribe for a long time too,the northern tribe was just strong enough to keep them back.
You have talent.
Who more wanna cry 😢 😢 😢 😢 😢 😢
I cried
Amazing, as always!
Thank you very much ! :D
Air nomads was inspired by the Tibetain Buddhism monks :D
Love this ❤️😭
Amazing, I love your videos! 😍
Thanks a lot ! :D
Song name - radial face all is well(good bye good bye)
Good combination!
SO SAD!!!🤧
If only sozin didn't want war
Wait so what was the point of Sozin killing all the Air Nomads when he will just be reborn into the Water Tribe? o.o
I do wander
To buy time?
Maybe they tried to capture him alive
Hed have about 15-20 years to conquer the Rest of the World since the Avatar starts his apprenticeship at 16
The next avatar wouldn't be able to master the four elements because no airbenders to teach the avatar airbending
Amazing video
Awesome video ! :)
Thank you, I'm glad you still haven't grown tired of my avatar obsession xD
Mellan Clear haha I will never grow old of my obsession with avatar and korra.
Thanks, I'm TearBending now
wow lost for words
170 years later.... new airbenders
sure
Many great and wise air nomads have detach themselves to received spiritual enlightenment 😥 like what uncle iroh say the air nomads detach themselves from worldly concern to found peace
So sad brah
Sad
And then Korra restored the air nomads 172 years later!!!
@@TimberlakeTigerGirl yes and now we have air nomads and acolytes but sadly the Northern Air Temple is destroyed
+Mellan Clear I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!!! Your editing is genius! May I ask can you make a video tribute for the revival of the Air Nation?
Thank you !
I don't really plan on editing Legend of Korra, so no, sorry :)
+Mellan Clear alright then how about a tribute to Zuko and his road to redemption?
i've already done two of those xD
+Mellan Clear do you plan to make anything new on Avatar?
