- Dell is often looked at for their high-end Alienware products for gaming, BUT we think there is some super value in their cheaper Dell laptops and desktops. Today we review their Dell G16 Gaming Laptop with an Intel i7 12700H and RTX 3060. Not only does it have a 16" QHD screen but it's also 16:10 and 165Hz!

I own a Dell laptop from 2014 as a backup/travel computer and I'm quite happy with it. It's by no means for gaming but it's perfect for basic tasks.

@@zainabartsss Dell Latitude E5540. The 8 gb of RAM version. The only upgrade is an SSD.
@@jonpeley nice
just use a phone for basic stuff lol
@@cherub0nyx it's not the same.
I bought the G16 with the 3050 (all the other specs are the same as yours) about 2 weeks ago when they had a sale for $899. Lower GPU but fine for my needs. Compared to my old laptop this thing flies. The bigger screen is fantastic.
Hey bro i need to talk with u about this laptop a bit do u have any account ?
I am considering buying.. Do you still recommend it?
@@rodrigomincoff9890I got one with a 3060 2 months ago for $799 it had bad temps at first but once I turned off turbo boost in the bios it has been running great.
I'm still rocking my Inspiron gaming laptop for 2016. I picked it up as a trade for a $200 Gaming PC and it's been excellent! Upgrading to 16GB of dual channel RAM woke the machine up quite a bit.
Same. Got the inspiron g7 with the 1060 max q. Upgraded to 32gb ram (was on sale on newegg at that time so I figured why not). Still runs these games which is fine with me.
lol i have the same inspiron still but i bought this g16 lately and its a breath of fresh air. no extra storage slot though which sucks because the inspiron has but im using an external hard drive that works fine
I got the G15 on closeout sale for around $1,000 a few weeks ago. Similar specs (8 core AMD CPU, 3060, 15" 1080p screen, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD), and it games well. Speakers aren't great, though.
I have the g15 11800H version 16 gb ram and the 3060 1080p 120hz screen. The MUX switch is awesome and this thing punches above it's weight. I use the thunderbolt support to run display port out in docked mode it's excellent on 2k and light 4k (played the quarry all maxed on my 4k tv)
nice i got aorus 15p xd, i7 11800h + rtx 3070 not bad
Omg waste of money,i mean if you need laptop for traveling its good, but if its only for gaming you wasted money, you could have bought beast gaming pc for that money

Dell always tries to deliver a good value for money whatever your needs and means are. Really like the style of this one too.
This years laptops from the usually mediocre Acer Nitro, Asus tuf and even Dell G15 have gotten quite good that I don't feel the same about gaming laptops as I did 4 years ago.
And the price and performance difference isn't as big as it once was.
I think it's partly due to the hyper competitiveness of the gaming laptop market fueled by high demand in many especially south east Asian companies. Where students and young adults move around more for studies and work and usually have unreliable electricity where the battery backup of a laptop even if just for an hour is very useful for work.
You're right ✅️
I use a laptop for everything computer related due to mobility problems.
It has performed very well and I can do just about everything I used to do on my tower PC.
There are so many options you can easily purchase a laptop that will fulfil your needs.
If you have to switch, don't be afraid.
For me I want to "Dell"ete these laptops
Edit: thx for 50 likes, the secret by getting so many likes on comments is to comment first
What a legend
Nice one😂
dell g15 and after > hp pavilion omen victus and asus tuf
@@raikkuno4764 i love that game
Lol nice joke😂😂😂
This thing is on sale at microcenter for $800 right now. What a steal.
Best Buy has this on sale for $1099 for the holidays. I had $275 in rewards certificates and it was the only laptop under $1400 that had both a 3060 and a screen larger than 15.6" (I would prefer a 17.3" but they had nothing under $2k with that).
One thing worth noting: it only has one NVME slot and no 2.5" bay, so the only way to expand storage is by replacing the factory nvme. The nvme is a cheaper gen3, is smaller sized (2230), and the dell motherboard only supports gen3 speeds; I am in the process of replacing mine with a higher quality 2tb gen3. Other than that I have small nitpicks but no complaints. It is a great deal at $1100 or less.
Smooth 1440p gaming...on a laptop. What a crazy time we live in.
this wouldnt happen on a Mac am i right?
PC is obsolete I get 120 fps on my 2k laptop screen high settings. We are absolutely drowning in computing power.
Performance isn't bad by any means, but I'd be worried about temps down the road when the thermal paste starts to degrade. If the laptop consistently hits 93 degrees Celsius when brand new, I can only image what they'd be a year or two into ownership. I know 80-90 is “normal” for laptops but others with better specs (Gigabyte Aorus) get far better thermals.
Also its a bitch of task to replace the thermal paste because the motherboard is flipped.
Will it even get to those temps if you arent gaming on it?
@@hassanahmad568 Oh that really does suck. So I'm assuming it would be a keyboard out procedure to get to the CPU then?
@@jonsmidt3701 No. You have to take out the whole motherboard to get to the cpu. Search yt dell g15 teardown
@@hassanahmad568 That's horrible. With laptops like that, once you go through that whole procedure, they never fit back the same way ever again. You'll have a cooler-running laptop that creaks and has gaps between panels.
I expect a 3070 for that price, especially to go with the 1440p resolution.
branding value prevents them from doing that 😁
1440p gaming is really not worth it
@@Hookah37 as of right now it's really worth more than it is worth imo.
Maybe when prices standardise.
@@Hookah37 cap the jump from 1080 to 1440 is massive
@@tmskat3boarding True, but it's also relatively expensive.
I bought this laptop 2 years ago and I can say it’s still pretty good. But also I saw some complains from other people who have it and they get quite many problems with the system. I think it’s depends on ur luck. I’d recommend to rise ur budget and get a legion, they’re seems better. But if u want to save some money this choice is okay
I got this laptop at micro center on sale for $699 on one of there 2 day sales and got another 40$ off because the box was open! I really like it its my first time gaming on a pc and everything has been working super well! I've had no issues
What games have you tried?
i play mw3 ,fortnite, gta 5, forza 5 and they all run at over 100fps in 1080 p
I also bought one for around $750 and I’ve played Fortnite and other small load games on it but I have had some dangerously high temps. Do u have the same problem?
@@mochowdown no i dont have any issues if i play games at 1080. and i us the g mode button so the fans are cranking.
Wow those temperatures! 90c-95c while gaming 😅
first thing i noticed, that keyboard had to be toasty.
@@Seanno7404 real toasty
toasty bros, fitting!
The exhaust vents are far away from keyboard so keyboard doesn't feel hot also didn't you heard the laptop was at quiet mode so fans run at low speed to reduce noise so hight temps are obvious... Check the fh5 it has 70-80 temps that's amazing for an i7 12th gen and a huge upgrade from last year
He max his graphics out that eat more of that gpu
Walmart has a asus gaming laptop for 750 right now Ryzen 7, RTX3050 16gb rams 144hz display and 500 SSD not bad
Just picked it up for $899 during Black Friday.!!!
I have this except with the 3050 ti instead of 3060 (on sale at dell for 900$) and the only bad thing is battery life
wsp! i just sold the laptop that got me through everything, f in the chat :(( and ill now buy the lenovo gaming ideapad 3, rtx 3050 and amd 7 5800H, is it a good laptop? im gonna buy it now that it black friday :D
anyways, great videos, keep it up!!
Ya it’s good.
Thanks for the video, I just bought this from Dell for less than $1K USD and it came with 1TB :)
How's it performing now?
Matt is definitely a bloodhound main… those grapples were pain
At this point they own GvG mall 😂
Bought mine back in May for $2300AUD (down from the RRP of $3300AUD) with an rtx3070ti from Dell website whilst on sale. Impossible to get an rtx3070ti and 12th gen intel CPU for that price anywhere else.
Look I needed to do a few updates to get Alienware centre working but other than that I got it plugged into a 27inch 1440p monitor and it literally handles everything.
Crap battery but who games without it plugged in? Cheers from Australia!
Edit: $2300 AUD is $1570 USD for my American friends 👍🇺🇸 so keep a tab on the Dell website for that sale! It comes round every couple months
my ryzen 7 5900x white rtx 3060 ti costs $1,373 and it has RGB craziness but if you dont know hot to build a pc it would be good

As long it stay over 60fps on 1440p is a solid gaming laptop
gotta love the copy and paste videos great content!
I have a Dell Precision M6800 I picked up and with a good MXM upgrade it's fine for Gaming. Might be good to Upgrade to this.
Love the video keep up the good work
Does it come with a MUX switch and does it come with a 1080p panel? I feel that with laptop panels, 1080p is the sweet spot if you want great battery life whilst rocking power hungry components like a 3060 or a 12-core i7
I have Dell Inspiron 5559 i3 i don't know what generation
It was a 2016 model, my father bought it for me for university in 2016 end
4gb ram 2666mhz 1tb HDD
When it was new I used to play battlefield on that and yes it was playable at lowest setting with stuttering
But yeah atleast i could see how game was.
I still use this laptop yeah cuz am broke
Only upgrade i did is +1 ram stick 4gb
And 256gb SSD
This even runs smoother than the laptop my brother got from a company that is hp.
I'm suffering with a optiplex right now and people be gaming amazingly.
Actually if you asked me, the difference from 60 to 72 is larger than 120 to 144 or likewise 144 to 240. those specific 12 frames at that spot are massive at for making a game look smooth. Honestly I kind of wish dell did some slightly higher speced versions of this for people who want alienware power without the 'im a gamer look at my RGB rainbow colors' d. bag look. Just give me a prosumer look with proper gaming specs.
Dell is like the Ole Reliable of Laptops, HP is close, but more expensive
Tbh I feel like the Temps would be lower if there was ventilation maybe putting it somewhere a bit higher to breathe?
you guys should start doing laptop modding videos
I want this for basic internet and photography so I doubt that will get too hot. I have a tower for gaming
I have a dell amd edition laptop with ryzen 4800h and 5600m gpu it is still a beast still
I've watched too many Dell gaming laptop repairs, it really put me off. What's interesting is that it's always a short circuit somewhere.
Got the hp victus 12th gen i5 gtx 1650 i wonder if i should upgrade
I have the 5600h and 3050 model and it's the best I could get and for the cheapest than other brands

A laptop giveaway will really help me out this year
I was going to buy the G15 and ended up buying the Nitro 5 about a year ago because the DELL was dead on arrival and when I checked the reviews ... they were not good.. I happy with my Nitro 5 now never had an issue... all DELLs personally have not good to me .. I had a XPS M2010 many years ago and the graphics card was iffy and then the Bluetooth started acting up.. yeh to me DELLS are cursed even down to the optiplex ect... saying that I got my wife a DELL Inspiron around same time as the Nitro 5... buts lets see what happens
Keep an eyeout for open box deals, especially if you live within driving distance of Microcenter. I got an incredible deal this fall after checking my local store's webpage everyday for 2-3 weeks.
I received one two days ago. It is very nice!
Im buying this from best buy tonight. Ill let you guys know what I think, thanks for this review.
Plz tell us
i suggested this to one of my friends it was a deal at Dell for 3050ti he bought for 999$ after tax
Best Buy has it on sale as of 3/13/23
If u go on their website and decide to upgrade the cpu from 4.7ghz to 5.0ghz it goes from 1499 to over 2000 us dollars 😮💨
I'm waiting for a 40 series gaming laptop. It'll be probably 3k or more.
Or acer has the same thing for $1000 at Best Buy right now
never buy a dell product, issues since first week and 2 years later never resolved, horrible customer service and support
I kinda expect (want) an sd card slot and atleast 1tb ssd for that price ...
Those CPU temps are ridiculous. That laptop will last a few months at most.

I was weary about it. You wind up with a non gaming keyboard. non gaming mouse. the need for a cooling pad if you seriously want to game on it. Your buying a desktop that can fold up and go with you.
i am surprised the g button doesnt disable integrated graphics. must not need it with todays chipsets.
How's the performance currently? Any issues?
I have this laptop. The fans are loud while gaming. One recurring thing that happens when I'm AFK on GTA online, it will force close the game leaving only the epic launcher open. Anyone else have this exact issue or do I need to repair the laptop? (still happens after all drivers are updated)
Hey! I own a dell g16 7620. Its amazing in every area except the battery part. I have been doing casual gaming and its actually smoother than my PS 4 in some games. Can anyone please suggest what can i do for the battery?
im planning to by a dell g16 7620 just like you, do you have any problems with the fan noise ? ppl say that the fans are pretty loud
Hey, I also have one too, it seems to last for 2 hrs only? I hear it's battery life is 6 hrs, but I am not sure, you input will be greatly helpful.Thanks.
i just got this laptop for my birthday and when i play any game it goes above 85-90c, is this a bad thing? I have never had a laptop before this is my first time so I don't know.
Don't buy a gaming laptop over a gaming PC. They get hot and can't do regular work with just a mobile CPU. I had one. This is an ad.
Depends on the work buddy no one is that stupid.... For me I wanted a computer for college so I wanted a laptop as I would be carrying it also it's just uncomfortable for me to sit at one place for long... I can pick it up and move on to my bed or the rooftop or somewhere else
Great video
bro im watching on the same laptop
that cpu was cooking itself
Why dnt you guys Talk about mux switch , gpu tgp , and external monitor experience and webcam ???????
Had a terrible experience with a 2021 Dell G5. The laptop was excellent value for money but runs hotter than a mf. Not to mention by factory the thermal pads and paste werent applied properly which led to the laptop shutting down when doing something intensive. Just be careful with Dell.
90c wtf ? The CPU is throttling pretty hard on this one. i have old MSI gaming laptop with gtx 980m and under full load it never exceeds 70c. Dell applies a really crappy thermal paste and the cooling solution is also not that good.
$1500 isn't budget friendly for a 3060 laptop
Edit: it's better to get an 11800h 3060 laptop for $1200
This Laptop is really good
6:23 had too pause it.

Modern Warfare II is badly broken.

I put this MW2 Warzone 2 crap on and get 95fps with dips under 70.
This laptop is great.
WOW damn imma buy that little shitter
Even warzone 2 is very heavy, to get good fps you need atleast a 16gb-24gb vram and 20gb ram and that's crazy! Or else it will stutter
@@Hookah37
I have 32gb ram.
24gb vram and it still stutters,
And input lags at random intervals.
The game feels like it’s a port from 2010, that didn’t originally come with controller support and required a crappy 3rd party app.
That is the best way i could describe Warzone 2.
This game will survive on Consoles.
As far as PC goes,
It’s only streamers and a few who will play it over Warzone 1.Come December.

I have a G3 from 2019 and my wife has the slightly older Inspiron one and the hinges on one side failed. I was able to find a ebay seller that had a shell that has an extra screw hole to reinforce the hinge, while I haven't found anything for my wife's (her lower case splits at the hinge), my G3 completely seperated. Sooooo beware?
Since I had to run my laptop headless for a bit (the first time the hinge failed it was under warranty that Dell denied as being a "consumable part") I also bought a 144hz 500nit 1080p display to swap out. Only issue with the latest case swap is that the hinges that I got with it are loose, so need to put back the originals. Also, don't get the keyboard separate from the palm rest as they are not screwed together, it's held together by melted plastic bits and if you separate without having a way to re-attach, the keyboard will rest all wonky in the case.
Had same shit with the alienware m11x (which was still dell at that time anyways) hinges broke twice and that was after they fixed it and warranty went out they said no more fixing. Horrible
I don't understand why the 3060 isn't working?
I have a kid in my class with a 3070ti 5700x laptop from razer Im surprised he doesn't play game on it at school
