Sad.. I am glad the rep from hospital was willing to answer questions so calmly and in a professional matter. Hopefully it will be resolved soon. 💔

Valkenburg is problematic and seems largely unaccountable. My brother was admitted in 2002, someone was raped his 1st night. He was diagnosed schizophrenic although recently shows no symptoms. Overall a hugely traumatic experience, and he and our family. He still suffers the trauma of his stay there. He was never given any therapy re. the experience. I feel for this family - they might never get closure :(

What a disgrace it sounds like a huge cover up. You as the parents have a right to know immediately what happened to your son . The hospitals will never be the same as when I was nursing. Never ever would a patient be in a situation like your son was. Obviously they saw there was a problem and a typical don't care attitude followed, that is why I will never nurse again because the overall lack of empathy and passion for nursing just is not there anymore . May God be with the parents of this young man and I pray the truth comes out. Where are our dedicated hard working, passionate medical staff?

Why can't the parents see the footage though ? Surely they should have the right as his legal guardians.

Investigation need to be done without bias. Even if the parents were cops. It would not be right for them to see it. It must be in objective hands

Aww Marty you will forever be missed. Sat crying through this because I know what type of person you were. Martin was always full of jokes and loved making people laugh. My heart goes out to Martin's family, something is definitely off with the way Martin's death is being covered up.

Sorry to sound negative, but my husband was murdered 15 years ago and despite trying to keep in communication with SAPS Krugersdorp... no results, no closure, trauma unresolved... my husband is a non-entity to them. I do however, pray that this family will be given the closure that they need. Xx

Another reason I won't be going to state hospitals for my bipolar treatment. I lost my job and medical aid but if rather be without it and suffer than be abused and humiliated by overpaid government hellcare workers

    I can empathize with them
When I was a little girl barely five my younger brother who was born severely disabled at two was put in a government facility supposed to care for him but instead my parents and I found him lying on a floor in a dirty nappy starved and near death
He died there as my parents weren’t allowed to even hold him
I remember it all and I still get upset as no action was ever taken against that home for disabled
But at least we knew what happened that’s what’s worse here
Some people should t be carers more like prison guards
    This brings back painful memories
    Love you always Kevin

After the Life Ezedemeni horror have they learned nothing about the distress caused to families. Shocking that mental health people can be so uncaring about the parents' mental state.

    Oh dear Lord!
My heart is broken, the parents are so forlorn. I pray they find closure . 🙏
    Your story came as God-sent!
    Your pain is palpable .
May God grant you closure and peace.
    May Martyn’s soul RIP.
This scares the living hell out of me since our son is about to be diagnosed and most definitely institutionalized thereafter!
I vow to use whatever resources we have to get him private care given the many stories we’ve heard of.
Lord grant us strength not to allow him to become another statistic .
Heal our beautiful country, Father I pray! 🙏

This is very sad. We always encourage people to own their mental disorders and family and friends to support these people and then this happens. I honestly hope this gentlemans family and friends find peace albeit very horrible story. 😞

SAPS tops the list for shameful and disgusting services from government institutions. Strongs to Martin's family.
