For me, the most painful part of the movie, was when Santam, his wife & child never made it to safety.

The scene where the city tilts into the pacific was traumatic. The horror those imaginary people would have felt is unthinkable. The move was epic but the loss was very sad.

There was another ending where they reach land and the some of the cruise ship crew survived and they reunite

Ahhhhh my childhood movie. I watched this before while drinking coffee and lunch at home chilling then later on will play Farmville... My highschool years when I'm absolutely happy. Unlike today. Being adult is stress in the arse and so dull.
My advice, if you have friends and family with you, pool your resources, buy a farmland and be self sufficient, buy solar panels, water filters, grow your food and tend animals. Humanity was supposed to live off the land, not become slaves from rich people. Pool your resources and live together and be a family together, peace.

Actually a lot of people think that in 2012 there was a fracturing of Dimensions leaving some people in lower density & others in higher density. It's supposed to be the excuse for the Mandela effect ( where things we remember aren't the same anymore- like Berenstain bears being spelled differently & curious George having a tail for some & for others not). Weird.
Roland Emmerich is one of my favorite directors, love his movies but mostly because he was the one who came up with Stargate in his school days if i remember correctly. The Stargate franchise is my favorite sci-fi franchise of all time, to bad its underrated as hell. You only hear people talk about star wars or star trek, never watched any of that stuff and never will.
You can enjoy Stargate and Star Wars and Star Trek. Honestly, you are missing out. Do yourself a favor and don’t be so closed minded.

my 13 year old ass really thought this was going to happen so when the date grew closer and closer I packed a mini survival kit in my highschool locker cause I was at school at the time and was just expecting the school to crack in half but nothing happened so me and my friends had the office staff play survivor by destiny’s child over the PA system 😭

That just depends on how the climate there changes, no one can grow food in a giant desert.
This movie would have really intriguing sequels it would kinda be like The 100 but they were never in space for idk how long like 500+ years. A sequel to 2012 would be more realistic

What idiot would build the only arks in a remote part of the world? I would assume a nuke sub should survive? Additional sub hulls could be re-powered, built, anchored across country.

This is a terrible movie. This is from the same director who did 10,000 BC which is one of the worst movies ever. He is known for not being scientifically accurate, which isn't always a bad thing, but his movies are usually way over the top.
