  • Amid rising Russian threat to Europe’s security, the US is trying to bolster Poland’s defence capabilities. The US State Department has approved a $6 billion sale of M1 Abrams tanks and other weaponry to Poland. US Defense Secretary, Lloyd Austin, announced the planned sale of 250 Abrams battle tanks to Poland on February 18. The announcement in Warsaw came amid Poland’s concerns over mobilisation of thousands of Russian troops in Belarus. US M1A2 Abrams vs Russian T-14 Armata: Which Is Superior?

The reason some British people dislike Poles is the sheer numbers who arrived here, taking scarce resources, and displacing local people. ...... Renting property used to be inexpensive, but is now ruinously expensive, meaning that less motivated people get squeezed out, causing resentment. ...... And too many of any type of new people in one place alters the nature of that place. ...... I have also noted quite a lot of violent crimes committed by Poles recently, particularly against women - though I only see news reports - I do not live in an area with a lot of Poles.
Poles have a good reputation for hard work, so building contractors use a lot of Poles, which upsets the Working Man - who hates change.
I look at history, and Poland was a land with no defensible borders, fought over and conquered many times, forming the national spirit which triumphed. ...... Even after the trials of the First World War, Poles could still raise the energy to defeat the Red invasion of 1920.

Right, but wrong. Target priority for Russian tank crews was always anti-tank platforms first; tanks were always lower as priority targets. US tank crew target priority was always enemy tanks as number one. Therefore, a US tank moves itself to #1 by slewing on the enemy tank. Russians remember the basic purpose behind having a tank on the set piece battlefield: punch a hole through enemy Infantry fighting positions, then expand the breach as dismounted Infantry widens the breach for follow-on forces, to separate interlocking fields of fire, and shatter opposing forces. The old “formula” of 1:3 (defensive posture) versus 3:1(offensive posture) thereby becomes moot. But US tankers are always “cowboys” in that they want to run around willy-nilly shooting tanks. Tank-on-tank battles become even more difficult since both tanks target and shoot at the worst possible target: zero degree obliquely; more likely not in hull-defilade; consuming a rather low “stored load” ammo supply. When we went from the M60-family with its 55 round stowed load of 105mm rounds (KE and CE combined), to the 40 rounds of 120mm in the M1-family, that alone reduced our tankers’ complement of rounds..

The Russians still use mostly T-72 variants and T-80 and T-90 tank's, that are just another T-72 variant with a new name. Russia made a big deal out of their new tanks, and planned to have thousands of them in service by 2020. When this didn't happen, their Deputy Prime Minister said something along the lines of "Why flood our army with Armatas, when our upgraded T-72s are still effective against Western tanks, and are in great demand at the moment?"
      We now know two things:
      - Russia can't afford them
      - Even if they could afford them, their leadership, doctrine, logistics, training, and motivation is too poor to make much of a difference
Seriously, this is the same army whose vehicles promptly ran out of fuel days after invading their smaller, poorer neighbor. Whose most advanced air defence systems were left abandoned in the mud because they cheaped out with Chinese knock-off tires, whose soldiers were found with rations that expired last decade, whose tanks were picked off driving on main roads, whose reactive armour panels were often observed in a state of disrepair (complicated by soldiers selling the explosives), and whose doctrine involves damaged or immobilised vehicles being abandoned on the spot rather than repaired (with the assumption that forward line of battle keeps advancing, and support troops would eventually come across them. Didn't really help that Ukrainian counter-offensives pushed them back). The idea that the Russians could supply and sustain something comparable to the Abrams or Leopard II is laughable, let alone a next-generation tank
It wouldn't surprise me if/when the T-14 Armata finally does have a combat debut, it'll turn out to be a vulnerable piece of shit whose capabilities were overstated by the Russian propaganda arm (remember when one of them broke down in a parade rehearsal?)

The latest US version is Tusk 2 upgraded with bolt on reactive Armor. Reactive armor isnt depleted uranium. Its high explosive capsules that bolt to the superstructure and explode when a manpad strikes them creating a negative pressure reaction.
The Abrams and British Challenger 2 are both outdated vehicles. Both built in the 1980,s
They are not 6th generation main battle tanks. Russia is the only country with 6th gen mbt so far.
The T14 aramata gun is able to fire conventional heavy projectiles, and self propelled missiles and is autoloaded. No turret crew gives better crew survivability, 3 crew seated in the hull only.
Altnough Russia has only built the T14 in low numbers so far.
The 120mm german made Rhinemetall barrel on both the Challenger 2 and Abrams are unable to fire missiles, only conventional projectiles, which reduces its standoff distance capability.
I doubt 6 billion will get 250 Abrams A2 Tusk ii upgraded versions. They will be standard A2 vehicles as seen in the video.
America rarely gives its most upgraded versions to nato partners. Almost all the kit left in Afghanistan was out of date versions including the Blackhawks.

~2,500 Leopard 2 have been built for Germany, but only about 250 are distributed to active battailions in the most modern version. The rest are 2A4 versions and well stored and maintained. But roughly 500 have been sold to Poland, Finland, Sweden and Canada. Since the dutch figured getting rif of MBTs wasn't the brightest idea. They have 12 german Tanks either leased or belonging generally to germany but are manned by dutch but within a german battalion.
Polish moves makes no sense, literally maintaining three different MBTs. Whereas the most modern Abrams, even i dont know what specifications he is coming with. But he can't have one the Leopard 2A5 started to field. The Turret at its front being literally immune to any by the Russians used ammunition. The Abrams otherwise certainly having some nice perks is not capable to withstand one particular russian modern ammunition, certainly being used in the paper tiger T-14.

    • @rethguals

Most German Leopard 2s are older variants technically in storage. This is why the Russian Ground Forces appear desperately short of tanks in Ukraine - most of the ones they have on paper are technically in storage. Difference is, when Western Europeans put their old AFVs in storage, they're carefully preserved and maintained in hangars; Russian "storage facilities" consist of row after row of old tanks left to rust in an outdoor park.
It's similar to why the Russian air forces struggle to come close to air superiority in Ukraine - modern technology needs constant maintenance and a large pool of skilled technicians to do so. A typical NATO air force's aircraft mission capable rates usually vary from 50-75% - how would you suppose the underfunded and dysfunctional Russian armed forces (bolstered with conscripts, beset with corruption and penny-pinching) would fare?

Its obvious that this sale was done for political reasoning but the Abrams is approaching end of it useable life span. Poland may also be counting on forward US deployment which means easy access to spare parts.

well you proabaly sadly can scrap the MGCS Project.... France and Germany have such a big rivality currently, MGCS and FCAS (future combat air system) are prestige projects of both countries. They cant even decide on the requirements

    • @louiscypher4186
      @louiscypher4186 2 года назад +2

Not an odd choice at all, The French dicked Poland around.
Poland wasn't invited to the initial consultation process.
Poland applied to join the Project in 2019
Poland was excluded from the Project in 2020
Poland started looking at producing their own K2PL's under licence and the French then said they were open to talks.
On top of all of that, even if they thought they could trust the French, actual full production capacity of the MGCS is planned for the late 2030's which means case scenario Poland wouldn't be able to deploy MGCS's until at least the 2040's.

    • @HusieK576
      @HusieK576 2 года назад +13

      1. Poland has a program called "Wolf" which has a task to replace their outdated tanks with newer ones.
Abrams was bought outside of that program, which means Poland will most likely also buy K2 Tanks since they also wants to replaice their fleet of Leopards and K2 was supposed to be build in Poland to boost their production capability but the problem is that the first Polish K2 would come out of local factories 10 years after signing the deal which Poland cannot allow themself for that since they are already running out of spare parts for T-72 and PT-91.
      2. Buying Leopards from Germany is simply impossible and unreliable since they already are worried about Germany not wanting to sell them bigger numbers of modern ammunition which bring us to the part where Poland also aquired some KE-W APFSDS and will try to get more modern KE-Ws to have ammunition also for their Leopards until they will also be replaced (idk if they gonna buy any M829XX APFSDS yet).
      3. Poland wasnt invited to that German-France project of future mbt because.... Poland has basically twice the number of tanks than Germany and France combined which would literally made them major user of that tank and also killed ger-fr industry since Poland right now don't have capabilities to produce their own tanks.
      4. Poland is already producing certain parts to Abrams and the deal also include capabilities for local maintance.

    M1A2? SEPV3?
    Second or third generation TIS?
    Trophy?
    Updated AGT-1500?
    Updated Tank Vetronics Backplane?
    Munition Datalink?
    M829A3 or A4?
    M1147 AMP?
    DU inserts to armor?
Without serious updating to basically U.S. home service standards, the Abrams is non competitive. It's short gun means that, _unless it has a DU SLRP_, it has a serious overmatch issue against dual third generation ERA + 5th generation composites like in the T-80BVM or T-90. Especially in the outer engagement ranges, beyond 3,500m, it just doesn't have the stick with Tungsten rounds.
It can compensate for this, somewhat, with the M1147 AMP (which is shaping up to be STAFF 2.0) but only if it has superb GPS/CITV interlink via third generation thermal wells and the munition datalink to guarantee proper fuse setting.
It's armor package is not all that impressive against late generation Svenits/Vacuum rounds and this is a bad thing because if you detonate the modern 120mm ammunition, the blow out doors will not contain the brewup.
It is still a fuel hungry beast which means if it doesn't have the on-turret APU and the ECS it will need a fleer of M978 HEMTT tankers, just to stay in the game and it's crew will freeze their asses off in the European winter.
Overall, the Leopard 2A6 with the DM53 is a better penetrator if both tanks are using tungsten and the 2A7 with the DM63/73 is superior. While the protection offered by the Leopard's Arrowhead is better, if there is no DU in the export Abrams backpack.
Being a small country with limited soldiers to throw at donkey tasks, I doubt if the Poles will be impressed with manual servicing of 50lb rounds into a conventional breach, though admittedly, they do something similar with the Leopard.
Standardization on nearby logistics sources is important. If the Leopard 2A6/2A7 is not available, the better export tank is likely the Leclerc. This deal must be just /loaded/ with politics.

@@gkagara That's not how shit works. No tank can survive an aircraft with an anti tank loadout, but that's what air defenses are for. Comparison between them is moot.

The T14 is an untested tank with serious technology issues or it would be in wide spread use. It’s autocannon would have fouling issues so it would have hamming issues. Russian tanks are lighter so HEAT charges would be highly effective and it’s fire control system would be subject to jamming. Russian air is apparently not that good since Ukraine is forcing them to stand off. The Abrams and Leopards would tear the Russian AFV’s to pieces.
