NEW ALBUM COMING JANUARY 2009!
I'm so happy to learn there's still a LUMBEE language! Thanx Jana for making the LUMBEE proud!
Oh God, but this song and rendition in Lumbee is magnificent. I feel the Creator smiling. May His blessings shower upon all who made this song, this video and all those who view it.
Hats off to the Lumbee tribe... They invited us from MS to be with them for a few days and yes they are a beautiful tribe fighting for National recognition. I pray it happens for them.
Jana, oye ve. Return to your roots. I am part native american. Your people don't recognize me, because that Blood comes through my Grandfather. This song speaks to me in Spirit at least as much as it does in English. I love my Indigenous cousins as much as anyone else. I love you, my cousin. Please do more videos like this one.
Over 500 tribes exist in the US alone, Jana has honored a few with these songs. She has my respect and admiration for her works and talents. I am Cherokee and have fought for preserve the people's rights and freedoms by serving this country, same as my grandfather has. The ignorance and arrogance still profounds me, I was even told I was extinct, told I'm in America I need to speak the language. sadly I see more respect from other countries than my own....we've been here, it's time to learn respect to ALL Nations and people.
+CherokeeBigBear i'm starting to think i have some native in me as well i was looking through my family tree says theres a bit of Mohawk in me but idk
+CherokeeBigBear I am adopted and don't know my birth Mother other than that she is/was 1/3rd Cherokee and was completely deaf, she'd be about 66 or so now (I'm 48) Why are American Inidans having to live on reservations, don't we/they own all of AMERICA? THEY LIVED HERE 20,000 YRS before anyone ever showed up to destroy their way of life and even now Indians are still the kindest and most spirited people i know after all the horrid things that were done to them/us, perhaps this country needs to be reborn and do away with what we have today as a society
David Worden well you know what the really fucked up thing is though is that they can't even vote
+David Worden .I agree. the irony that the Govt and churches tried everything to destroy the language and culture and those same languages helped in WWII with the code talkers. now other Nations seek the Native wisdom. Germans have a huge facination and quite accurate. Japan is also starting up now. Ireland has a monument in respect for the help recieved during the potato famine.
CherokeeBigBear you can't force people into other peoples beliefs (glares at the catholic church)
She was born in Robeson county NC like I was. She has Tuscarora heritage too which is possibly Iroquois linked. I might have Iroquois heritage in some DNA percentage myself. She has a beautiful voice especially in Lumbee language. If you never heard her sing in Lakota or other languages just as beautiful. She sings in Navajo too
This is my first time hearing this language and it is such a beautiful language. Incredible!
Beautiful song Jana..you do our people proud.
This is so beautiful and the singer is a beautiful woman. I am half Lumbee, and I know that the Lumbee do not have a "Lumbee language." This has been one of the major problems with their gaining Federal recognition. If the Lumbee ever had an actual language of their own, it disappeared long ago. As a child, I was taught a Christian song in "Indian" by my Great Aunt. I sent the word pronunciation to a professor at Pembroke University and he was unable to identify the language.
I love my Indian heritage, it still saddens me when I thank about the death of so much innocent men women and children , The beauty of true spiritually of knowledge and wisdom . My father in Heaven let the White horse ride . God bless all the nations , no matter creed or color . Peace to all that seek the truth .and give understanding for those who are trying . God bless you all.
Wish she did more of the songs in Lumee
This is my fathers Cousin Jana I will be singing this song tomorrow or Friday
Beautiful, bless the Indian nations , all of the purity was taken away from the , I know , because for me I am a part of the , I love my Indian heritage. My Great Grandmother was a full blooded Cherokee , I was real young about 4 years old , she told my mother she wanted to see me , I'll never forget these words unto me , stay strong and you shall prevail my son. So now I know at 57 What strong truly means , Stand you ground and stay true no matter how many mistakes you make or how God leads you to a path of the unknowing , you must take it otherwise you , you where called and you did not answer.
The Voice of an Angel...
God Bless You and God Bless North Carolina!
THIS IS OFF THE CHAIN, I HAVE NEVER HEARD THIS WOW!
I live in Robeson County and I am Lumbee Indian and I hope to learn the language we spoke one day. Too bad the schools don't teach the native language here along with Spanish and French here. The song is beautiful no matter how it's spoken though. This isn't twitter but... #Jesus4Life
One of the most beautiful versions ever and her voice is like silk - nuh wah do he yaw duh!
Do you speak the Lumbee language, if so would love to get it from you, would be glad to pay you for your troubles.
I have her CD love her music very talented
Bought this CD off her webpage right after hearing this song. I've bought 3 or 4 of her CDs now so far, including the newest one, New Moon Born. She is phenomenal. And her work on behalf of little children is downright inspirational.
Songwriter from Oklahoma. Yes. She's a very gifted refreshing artist. I'm listening to everything I can find. A fan..diverse. Hope you are well whatever you are pursuing Jana. You're a light bringer. You've made me cry and smile. Blessings sister.
What a beautiful language and race, I know one and think alot of him. Hope it becomes more than just friendship, I know this is not possible. But we are never to old to believe and want what we can't have.
My Brother in Law , is part Lumbee , his mother is Lumbee and his father is a Newton , and he is related to John Newton, who penned this Amazing song , about redemption and , I believe he preyed to God to spare his life in a tempest sea and if saved he would be a better person and he ultimately repented his slave owning
You are correct! Beautiful story, beautiful song!
This is one song that is beautiful in any language. It's feeling it evokes in the soul. Beautiful job Jana!
This is by far my favorite version of one of my all time favorite songs.
She's beautiful, and her voice is beautiful too.
Wow, Sister, I'm a Tewa Indian
from New Mexico. I totally love all your songs, especially singing in all Indian Nation languages. What a beautiful voice.
Oh my gosh... this language... It's so beautiful. I have nothing else to say...I'm speechless. Her voice just goes straight to my soul.
What a beautiful song in native language.
Cherokee and lakota /Irish My family hid this as we lived in Midland Texas and Grandmothers Both very Spiritual and could not attend church if folks knew. I was the only family member that they revealed ancestry to! As I am connected to the Spirits! Thank You
My favorite song I'm glad I can hear in a native language thank you
She reminds me so much of my twin daughters in some ways. Her voice is soothing and beautiful.
This song is so beautiful it honors my grandfather who loved this song lum life bullards
The Lumbee are federally acknowledged. Historians, anthropologists, government officials, and 1956 Lumbee Act are all historical documentation of our ancient existence in the Lumbee River basin. I trace my ancestors back to Robert Locklear, king of the Cheraw 1738 (wall street journal). What you're listening to is the Cheraw dialect (Sally Brown's glossary-Dr. Frank Speck). Jana did a beautiful job!
I think it's great you can sing in so many dialects I was born lumbee but I have so many other lineages I'm finding out. Your voice is so beautiful. Those Tuscarora lumbee combos ate the most verditike independent talented innovative relentless peaceful resilient people I have ever researched to finally be back to Robeson county in November for a while. I see you for the day lol....
I'm here in Saddleworth Uk...this girl can sing! Beautiful song. I'm having Amazing Grace at my mothers funeral this week - Judy Collins but I love this G,
She's as beautiful as her voice, i don't know her at all of course, but from what I seeing written by people who know her she is an incredible woman, it's good to see someone like her doesn't have hear head in the clouds or thinks she's above others...i don't understand any of the languages they sing in of course but you don't need to know it to feel it.
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL VOCALS . MOST DEFINITELY A GOD GIVEN TALENT. I SIMPLY LOVED IT
What an amazing voice and song. Beautiful. Love it
The English spoken by the Lumbees contains many strange words, which may well have their origin in a native language. The Lumbee blood is mixed with much English and Scottish blood, and the words are not found in either language, which indicates that they are probably of a native origin. There was an excellent article in The Indian Newsletter several years ago about these strange words which are used solely by the Lumbee.
My great grandmother is full lumbee as well, But being adopted i dont get to see my lumbee family much,
~ Proud Lumbee Native =)
Beautiful..
Am Happy to be dating a member of the Lumbee Tribe and proud of him and his people. From what I've read they were given the right to speak your language in 1990, but by then a lot of the languages were already lost. Just one more thing taken away from them.
speechless extremely beautiful voice im cherokee with some creek and this is incredible
this is for sure to be one of if not the best and most beautiful Hym's ever and that it be sweet music to one and all both with us and to those who have passed to the next life,..Beautiful forever and always..
Y'all I am a registered member of the Lumbee Tribe, I was born and raised in Pembroke (tribal headquarters of the Lumbee), but I ain't never heard of a Lumbee language. I'm studying Political Science with a minor in Native American Studies at BYU and still no mention of a modern language for Lumbees. I've heard of Lumbee English (munk something up, juvembers, ellick, "I'm found it") and I even speak that, but no Lumbee language haha!
wtlocklear my grandmother was Martha Deese, a Lumbee woman
My, tribe is Lumbee and im proud to be Native American, :) this is very beautiful i have been searching for my tribes laungue for ever, now i have a little bit of it YAY !!!!

absolutely gorgeous! Nothing like hearing Amazing Grace sung in Cherokee! I love to hear that langueage. It is such a beautiful language! And she couldn't of sang it any prettier! Amen to her!
This is not Cherokee language it's the Lumbee Tribe in NC, look them up.
She has a beautiful voice and was born in Robeson county NC like me. Lumbee tribe of nc territory. She is part Tuscarora too. A beautiful voice. A picture if the capitol building pulled up in my phone it said "we found mashonee" what did that mean? Did they hate her I am a victim of prejudice my entire life since 1975 myself ongoing in Montgomery Al.
What an intriguing juxtaposition of cultures
Not sure that Lumbee have a Language. If they do, I'm not aware. However, this is beautiful....
What a beautiful language!
I try to start my day with a cup of coffee and this song by Jana, this morning was different. When I played it, it was layered, one over playing the other, she was shadowing herself and it came out really great. Just thought it was interesting and wanted to pass it along.
I love her music, she is very talented. I'm Choctaw/Chickasaw with alittle French.
Got a lovely voice. And I listen to this all day whilst I am cleaning my flat. More than I can say about the rest of the people on here who are lazy
Absolutely beautiful
jana looks like a princess and sounds like an angel. thanks for the posting....

Love this, beautiful voice..
@Miharuanka Glad to help. My self I'm trying to learn the Odawa language now. It is not easy as pure Odawa is rarely spoken and closely related to Ojibwe and there is no one here to speak it with. So I start with comands to my dog in Odawan and it works for me.
WOW, Beautiful voice
Absolutely Beautiful!
Wish you had more Lumbee songs.
There is, brother. There is!
@ZABBU19 You sir, are correct and verified by the BIA and I would go further and say that sense there is a varifiable Lumbee Tribe it would stand to reason that there is a Lumbee language. So let's don't miss the point, and that is the music. Now all that being settled, sit back and play it again SAM.
So beautiful it's heartstopping!
absolutely beautiful language, my first time hearing it. What an amazing singer.

Please have this young Lady do a Gosple album. I am in my end days, this is the voice of an angle.
WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THE WORDS TO THIS SONG, (THE Lumbee WORDS) IF ANYONE HAS THEM, WOULD BE GLAD TO PAY YOU. I can almost sing this word for word as of this day, has taken a while to do it but it's possible.
FOR THEM.
glory to all the tribes! you are the salvation of the world, your noble people is never extinguished
Beautiful!!
There is very little of the Lumbee language left, not even enough to speak just a few words, I know this because I go with one that lives on the reservation in NC, and he's full-blooded. If you want to know more then look them up, I hate what we have put them through and still do.
Totally Awesome.... The voice of an Angel...
I come from originally Soctland ...This has the heart THATS ENOUGH

What a wonderfull voice

In 1885, the tribe was recognized as Indian by the State of North Carolina. In 1956, Congress passed the Lumbee Act, which recognized the tribe as Indian.
While being recognized as Indian by both the State of North Carolina and the federal government the Lumbee Act withheld benefits which the Lumbee have been trying to get ever since.
The ancestors of the Lumbee were mainly Cheraw and related Siouan-speaking Indians who have lived in the area of what is now Robeson County, NC since the 1700s
No Siouan, although for a short time the Siouan where in the area, The Cheraw are direct descendants of the Maskoki /Creek ... The Siouan moved from the region when the buffalo moved up north... the Cheraw stayed within there territory and if correct I have the name of the Nations language to Lumbee in theory.
Imagine if she had been the one singing this song at the inauguration today. That would have been a powerful sight.
i CAN ONLY WISH FOR THESE PEOPLE TO BE RECONIZED AS AN INDIAN TRIBE.
I'm half Lumbee Indian. I would love to learn that language, even though I'm only half (White and Lumbee Indian).
a person is always "half" , until they find thier other half... but you are never "ONLY"half... peace to you sister
I'm from Robeson county btw
amazing-beauitful, makes the start of my day work
Beautiful
