  • We had a Vittorazi Motors MP041 pull start assembly come in for a rebuild. Corrosion on the center pin caused the MP057 (elastic ring for hooks) to bind. The MP041 was not able to recoil properly. The MP053 (easy start spring) and MP053a (strapping band) worked their way out. Here is a quick video showing how I repaired it. I also cleaned the center pin and lubed it which was not shown in the video. -Kyle

You need it to clean and lubricate that spring then it will work much easier

Good morning and thank you for watching! We really appreciate it! I always lean on the less is more side. Some of the starters we have rebuild have been packed with debris that gets collected by lubricants. The main trouble spot we see that requires lubercant is where the MP057 rides on the center pin. This will develope corrosion and start binding up. I always clean it really well and use a small amount of WD-40. Thank you again for watching!! -Kyle

Nice. What cleaner was used here (and lubricant on the pin)?

Thank you for watching. I use carb cleaner to wipe down all the parts. I use a light lubricant in the groove where the MP057 rides. It's to prevent corosion. You don't want to use grease or it will attract debris and bind it up. Shoot us an email info@skysportsUSA.net if you need anything. -Kyle

The maintenance manual says to measure the gap between the spring and washers. In the video you make a measurement without the spring in place. Is there a reason for this? I'm trying to do this maintenance and am trying to figure out the correct way to do so.

Good afternoon and thank you for watching. I'm measuring between the top of the washer stack and the recess where the spring rides on the center pin. I do it this way because it's easier for me to see the gap without the MP057 installed. Shoot me an email info@skysportsusa.net with any questions. I'm always happy to help.

Overpriced piece of plastic garbage that can and will break many times over the engines life span potentially killing the pilot when it fails. I’ve had these starters fail on startup or blow up while running and jamming the flywheel to a dead stop and killing the motor on multiple Moster 185’s. I like the Moster engines themselves but the starters are overpriced death traps.

Good afternoon, I apologize I missed your comment and am sorry to hear you had a bad experience with yours. The new MY22 motors have a two year warranty and we make the warranty process painless.
I've rebuilt dozens of them and I'm still trying to figure out why they fail. The two most common issues I see is what is featured in this video and the MP054/MP052 melting together.
Shoot me an email info@SkySportsUSA.net. I'd like to know what year your motors are and how many hours are on them. I'm always looking to learn. Have a great afternoon!
