This is an excellent example of a blues song. My music teacher actually showed us this song for us to learn what the blues were, and I instantly fell in love with the song. Love to Tracy Chapman!

Amen to that! This song is quintessentially perfect 12 bar blues, and just slow enough that even the beginner can follow along with the chord progression: root, fourth, root, fifth, fourth, root.
      Exquisite!

The melancholy theme struck me. She wants someone to hold her & rock her all night but gets no person after her choice; the one she was linked with, she loved but can't stay anymore...what a reflection, what a presentation! Superb a music. Thanks dear Paul for sharing.

It can mean more than that. Think for a moment if you thought there was nothing left in this world to see. No joy left save for what you once felt. You would feel lost and alone and then you hear this song and know....truly know that you aren't alone. We all feel this.

I used to sing this also beginning back in the 90s when it came out. At karaoke I'd get requests to sing it but I went through a 2 year stage where I sang for hours on end while smoking and drinking and I totally shot my voice to sht.😢 I hadn't drank in 28 years and decided to start again at 55 to try and deal with the physical and emotional pain I was going through bc of a spinal cord injury. I'm sure it's so satisfying to be able to sing it for ppl. You're blessed and I'd love to hear you sing it. Have you ever thought about making a YT short video?
