August and Kendall had been best friends since they were just little kids, since they first met in third grade. They did everything together, spent all their time together, and shared most of the same friends together. But everyone knew that the two of them were best friends.
There was never any drama, at home or at school, and they kept this best friendship going through fourth, fifth, and then into sixth grade. From Halloween to other holidays, it was always the two of them.
After they had started in on sixth grade, the middle school announced that there was going to be a Halloween Dance. Everyone was so excited, planning their costumes and creating fun drama about who was going to dance with who and who had a crush and all of that.
It was even more fun at their school because leading up to Halloween they had spirit week, where everyone would dress up in costumes with a different theme each day, like Tacky Tuesday and Wacky Wednesday. It was tons of fun every year and it made Halloween more fun too.
But, for some reason, spirit week in sixth grade was full of drama - Kendall was acting like she was mad at August. She spent the week giving August dirty looks and gossiping about her to their group of friends, and August had no idea why so she just tried to ignore it and stay out of the drama and in the spirit of Halloween.
After a whole week of that she finally asked their shared good friend Alexa about it, to see if she knew why Kendall was acting so mad at her. But Alexa told her she had no idea what was going on and just not to worry about it, so that's what August tried to do.
The Halloween Dance arrives and August is dressed up and having a great time, dancing, and doing all her favorite dance moves. Dancing with all her friends and being caught up in the Halloween spirit made her super tired and thirsty, so she took a break to sit on the sidelines and catch her breath.
Suddenly Chase (Kendall's other really good friend) and Kendall come over and Chase just starts yelling and screaming at August and telling her that she is a mean, and how could she, and then Kendall bursts into tears. August was so confused and had no idea what they were talking about. There as a BIG misunderstanding.
Finally, with Kendall just crying, Chase said "you are the worst friend ever and we don't want you to be our friend anymore!" August had no idea what she had done, and she asked, but it was all just drama at that point. It was so sad, and confusing, and August just burst into tears and started crying, and then Kendall started crying, and even Chase got into it and cried.
Then it felt like the whole school there, at the dance, chose a side. There was team Kendall and team August, and it just got way out of hand. August thought it would all just smooth over, but even after two weeks they still hadn't spoken and the whole school was still talking about it and making up stories.
August felt so alone. When she lost her best friend she also lost a bunch of other close friends who ended up taking sides. All August could think was "I lost my best friend and I still don't know why."
Now they're in eighth grade, and ever since then Halloween has just lost some of its fun spirit. And, she and Kendall still don't talk to each other - just like that, they both lost their best friends.
But, ultimately it's all okay. August has a great group of friends who will support her through anything and everything, and, they talk and share their feelings and try to fix things before they every get to the point they did with August and Kendall.

I lost my best friend with which I was friends with for 10 years:
We knew eachother since kindergarden and we then went to the same middle school. We were unseperable. We spoke the same language (bulgarian) and we were as close as ever. We were always there for eachother. In middle school we were in the same class and the first year was perfect. But halway through the firstyear, she got really close with a girl from the neighbour class. She was the type of girl who looks at and decides to be friends with you or not without even knowing you. They got really close and my "best friend" didn't really care about me anymore...she made so many new friends and I was left behind. The girl that took her away from me and ruined me was always really mean to me but acted like an angel when my "best friend" was around.
I got depressed afterwards and I'm still upset about all this...

I have a story like this.
When I was in fourth grade I had made a LOT of good friends. And one day, one of my friend's moms took her phone and said that she couldn't text with us anymore and could only talk to us at school. So, I didn't mind because me and her weren't very close and we never talked much. And so I was sending the group chat some peaceful videos of me playing with my dogs. And then my other friends in the group chat started freaking out and yelling at me and I was like "What?" And they were going crazy about the fact that I was sending videos because apparently they got really sad and dramatic about my other friend leaving. One of them kept on screaming at me and saying stuff like "You never cared about her!" and "You guys were never friends!" And I said, "No, I do care it's just it doesn't really bother me because we never talked." And she kept talking about our friendship and I said, "No. That's not what happened. You don't have to get involved in my personal life." And she was like "EXCUSE ME?" And I said, "Sorry if that offended you but I'm trying to say you don't need to get involved in her and my friendship." And she said, "NO I SHOULD DEFINITELY BE INVOLVED IN YOUR PERSONAL LIFE!" And then she removed me from the group chat. And so, I went to one of our other group chats and said, "WHY ARE YOU GUYS SO MEAN TO ME???" And then she removed me from that too. SO than I deleted their numbers and since they still had my numbers, they kept calling me. And said stuff like, "Ha now you have no friends!" But I blocked them and ignored them and posted about it on tiktok. And somehow she got more friends and more popular so I'm still really mad. But, me and one of them who wasn't really involved in it, became friends again so yeah.

I was constantly bullied after the STAAR test in 4th grade, I was called ugly, slapped, hit on the back from a backpack, slipped on the blacktop outside on a jacket, I really wanted to go home, cry, and cut myself, but after my teacher, Ms.Haseman, experienced someone bullying me, she did her best to protect me, but if I told on my classmates who were bullying me, they would tell on me back.... but now, I have a list of people who are being rude to me, and once it’s done, I’m taking it to our new principal, Ms.Stafford.
I'm glad to hear that, because I know a few people who have been affected by terrible toxic "friends", even the people they called their "best friends". You got to be careful with who you call your friends or "best friends". They could screw you over at ANY moment.
And that's why you have to be VERY careful throwing that word "best friend" around. That word, that title is sacred to me, but it holds no real weight to it because SO MANY people are fake as hell or flakey or really toxic inside, and its hard to notice their true colors until its too late. Now I know why my mom doesn't believe in friends.
I believe in friends, but I have to be my own best friend first. I don't have time to have my self esteem shattered, to have all those bad thoughts come back with a vengeance.

I recently lost a best friend of 8 years. We knew each other since we were little, but this year i noticed that she was different. She used to be the sweetest and funniest person ever, but then she started bullying me, she made fun of my appearance and started to slowly get away. It happened to me as well, and I'd known my best friend longer. I knew her since I was 3 years old, and she suddenly stopped talking to me when we were 11. I have no idea what I did, she just cut me off one day out of the blue and told my other best friend she "doesn't want to mention me anymore." It's fine though, because I have an amazing support system now. I didn't need her toxicity in my life.

I once had a friend like that. We met in kindergarten. At that time he was really into power rangers, so every day we would go around the playground doing roleplay. Skip a few years later into 3rd grade and we created a game called traveling bros, and it was basically us making up a plot as we go through and wherever else. Fast forward again to 6th grade and the whole group of friends basically shrunk down to me and him. In 7th grade he started to go through changes. He started swearing, a lot. When I was in the school play, I made some more friends. And they had become friends with him as well. He then asked one of them out and they dated on and off repeatedly. He kept pressuring her into dating him, and my other friend found out and she told him off about it and he said that being with us made him unhappy and left. I tried to forgive him but he just ignores me now and if I try to talk, he'll just brush me off.

Same thing kinda happened to me. I became friends with this new girl and my “friend” got jealous and I didn’t know. So then I asked what was wrong and she left and ignored me. Then she got with another group of friends and she starts talking stuff about me, so then she texts me saying she wants to fight me and that I’m childish. I said “your the childish one for getting jealous over a person I’m hanging out with”. Then she started spreading rumors and everyone hated me. Then all my supposedly real friends got on the snakes 🐍 side and started saying things to me. Then my TRUE ⭐️ friends got on my side then everyone started finding out what was actually going on (they told people), so then they left them and yeah. We don’t talk anymore but she still gives me notes telling me things, but them typical me rips them in front of her of throws them away cause idc what she has to say about me.

I'm seriously questioning who my friends are at the moment. I recently joined theater because so many if my friends were in the program and I've always thought that I would really enjoy theater. The people who I was already friends with, I became closer to them and I made some new ones too. My first show was into the woods and I got the part of Cinderella's mother. I was really excited because I didn't have any experience but I was ready to prove that I could do it. All through out the show other theater kids started to notice me and we talked all about the show and I was the happiest I had been in a long time. My problem didn't start until after the show had ended. At first it was great we all missed being in the show, and we were looking forward to drama club. Then about a week after it had ended they began ignoring me. It was like suddenly I wasn't valuable to their conversations. They never asked for my opinion and they actually forgot I was there. They would talk about who asked who to the dance and what we were dressing up as. An example was Tyler and ellie were going to the dance together, they thought I didn't know and eventually they said I think maddy should know we should tell her. I told them I knew and they asked how and I said I have lunch with you and Rachel I was bound to over hear. They seemingly forgot that I sat with them every day since the beginning of the year. A few people were selected to go to a competition for the Virginia theater association. They seemed to ignore me more and more seeing as I wasn't picked to go, it didn't bother me I knew they were excited and had more experience. Then when they came back winning gold and platinum I was very happy for them. I would try to strike up a conversation about theater, and I said that I feel like a die hard theater kid and they responded with how would you know you've only been in one show. Instead of being in the same group and laughing they chose other people and completely excluded me. I would like to sit with other people then them at lunch but u have to sit with your 4th period class. We would share food and laugh but they ignore me and I give them food if they don't have any and have never recieved a thank you or anything else in return. And my best friend who has always been there for me is in none of my classes and many of my other friends moved away the few others I have probably wouldn't accept me for all that I am. I don't want to pretend anymore for these people but I would still miss them as friends but I don't know or we are anymore. I miss the people I knew before but I refuse to accept that I'm lonely. Sure I may be alone
But I refuse to believe I'm lonely. I hope that one day I'll he able to find people who don't care about my experience because in reality it only makes you feel better about yourself

omg i feel you! in 6th grade i had like 2 friends and the school had A lunch, B lunch, and C lunch. of course both of my friends had C lunch and i had A lunch so i sat alone for the first quarter of the year then the guidance counselor forced me to sit next to people so for the rest of that year i sat with people i didnt like and then people that didnt like me and it sucked eggs. but now im in highschool and i somehow magically became more outgoing so now i have a lot more than 2 friends :). btw at my school if people had no friends at their lunch they could ask the guidance councelor to switch their lunch so you could do that (but i couldn't because i was in band which took up B and C lunch periods)
