    This video is the assembly of the chainsaw bike build. I received 2 free mountain bikes and a free husqvarna chainsaw so of course I’m going to make a chainsaw powered bike. The bike was build with a duel purpose in mind. I wanted to build this bike without any modifications to the bike or chainsaw so they can both be reverted back to their original form. bikes and chainsaw were supplied by Nick D / @nickdevincentis

    it's so perfect. The chainsaw is literally made to work with a chain already. Use an actual chainsaw chain attached to a fixed gear for extra impractical coolness. Then you could brake with the lack of a throttle

    I bet that clutch got red hot. You need a way bigger sprocket on the wheel or run a jack shaft. The rest of this build was done very well though. Good job on the mounts.

    • @JGD16
      @JGD16  5 лет назад +9

      Yes that clutch got pretty hot. I knew it would need a larger ratio but like all of my builds I use whatever I have around or what I can get for free. I have some future upgrade plans that should help out with that. Thanks for watching

    Your chainsaw bike is probably the neatest practical build I've seen. I've been riding motorized bicycles since 07 and kinda loss interest in the last couple of years and haven't rode much and was thinking about selling everything. But I'm glad that your video popped up because it's renewed my interest in a chainsaw bike and I have a few husky chainsaws that I might try. Did you ever get the gearing figured out?

    A quick way to improve it would be to have used a professional grade Husky. Yours is a 51 which is a homeowner grade and not rated anywhere close to the 351 that's rated for 3,000 hours at full throttle minimum.

    Hello.
    I realy liked this idea and decited to make my own. I folloved your directions step by step. When I finished it I decited to take it for a test ride and the clutch burned out becouse the chainsaw had too much rpm.
    My small gear has 11 teeth and the big one 48. That gives me a gear ratio of 1 to 4.36 . From the video I know that your small gear has 8 teeth and the big one also 48. That gives a gear ratio 1 to 6. How did your clutch survive?
    My chainsaw is a Grizzly BKS 35-14 (35cc)
    Can you or anyone reading this comment help me out on how to solve this problem?

    • @jonaszkita8472
      @jonaszkita8472 3 года назад

      I am thinking on leaving the chain and sprocket idea and instead using a roler pressed on the tire to drive the wheel. This would give me a bigger ratio.
      31 to 1 instead of 4 to 1
      But the downside is that it is driven by friction and it can wear my tire out faster .

    • @JGD16
      @JGD16  3 года назад

      Hey I’m glad to hear you built your own that’s great. I did have problems with the clutch getting very hot. my small gear was an 8 tooth in a large gear was 60 but still not a great ratio. This bike was purpose built to be an all-wheel-drive bike, that helped out with my clutch issues in case you haven’t seen that video. Your best bet is to probably add some type of jack shaft to increase your gear ratio or find a very large sprocket to mount on your wheel.

    • @jonaszkita8472
      @jonaszkita8472 3 года назад

      Oh right! The second engine. I forgot about that. So the second engine took off the stress of the first engines clutch. Makes sense. Thanks for the answer!
      I was thinking about the jackshaft but it is realy hard to compose it in there becouse of the limited space so i decited to make it a friction drive.
      I will upload a short video when I finish so you can see how it went out. Thanks for the reply again.

    Hey I have a problem so I welded the sprocket on the outside of the clutch and I’m using the stick 7 speed on my rear wheel so when I hooked it all up I couldn’t pull start it unless I lifted the back wheel up because it was to hard because of the chain so I had to lift the back wheel up but when I did that the chain fell off cause it was loose, do you think that’s cause I need a chain tensioner? Thanks

    • @JGD16
      @JGD16  2 года назад

      There are two parts to a clutch.The inner mechanism connects directly to the engine crank and the outer piece spins freely. the free spinning one is where the sprocket should be connected. As far as a chain tensioner if you have a very short amount of chain you can get away with no tensioner but a long length of chain you definitely want a tensioner

    Yes, you could spend thousands of dollars on an eBike ruclips.net/user/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ and get something much higher quality. However, if you're looking for a basic model to try out eBiking this is a great choice. The assembly is easy as far as bikes go (took about an hour for me to do, I'm not an expert). All tools needed are included. I added the plastic mud guards you see and a more comfortable seat. The other reviews are correct that you're probably going to want a better seat (Giddy Up! Bike Seat is what I got - super comfortable). The battery easily handles a 2-4 hour ride if you add some of your own pedal power. I haven't even gotten it up to top speed yet - it is very fast. Components are not top of the line, but decent for the price and work just fine. It works great on dirt roads and singletrack and pavement although too heavy to do tricks or any serious technical mountain biking. I'm looking forward to using it a lot over the summer. Tons of fun!

      It will work with that ratio but the clutch will get hot and may not last very long. my bike still has the pedal and crank so I can pedal at low speed and engage the engine at higher

      @@JGD16 so what is the best ratio so I will not burn my clutch and get decent torque and top speed?

      I am not sure of the exact ratio you need but I’ve heard of people using in the range of 20:1. I’m hoping to get somewhere in the teens with mine.

    Another total fail instructional video. Instead of SHOWING how the sprocket was installed, he just says "SEE HOW" the sprocket was installed. Same for the rest of the video. Not helpful to anyone.
