  • Today I testified in support of the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act, which I authored along with my colleague Sen. Portman.
Congress must act to hold websites that facilitate and support online sex trafficking accountable - and by amending Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, that is exactly what SESTA does. We have a social and moral obligation to end this shameful scourge and provide its victims - who in some cases were assaulted thousands of times - the day in court that they deserve.
I am so grateful to everyone who spoke out on behalf of this sorely needed reform. But I especially want to thank Yvonne Ambrose for bravely and powerfully recounting her daughter’s tragic fate at the hands of sex traffickers. Her experience, which never should have happened, is a sobering reminder of the consequences of inaction. It is my hope that today’s hearing will mark a turning point in this fight.
