My friend and I still play UFC 3 very often. It has such a great stamina system, the striking feels loose and fluid, and the graphics still hold up really well despite being 2 games previous.
Man I remember I went like 40-0 in the Beta for this game. When the full game released I wasn't nearly that good, but at least I had a good run in the Beta lol.
My only real problem with UFC 3 was the 30 FPS cap, think that's just insane for a fighting game all based around responsiveness and reactions. UFC 4 on PS4 Pro was a big step up in that regard.
I love how this video seems to have a double meaning. It’s giving us some history of EASports UFC games and also giving Steel City insight on functional and efficient ways to implement striking into their game.
Literally the only game I play in the series, it’s just better than 4 and 5 imo, I miss the grappling system also, being able to hold a postured up position instead of a timed thing in 4 and 5
I will always hate that EA went in such a drastically different direction for UFC 4 and 5. I was expecting EA to simply build upon 3 - fix issues and add onto the foundation that was built. Instead they stripped the game down to the skeleton and almost rebuilt a whole new product. I won't argue that 4 and 5 aren't technically better games, but they still feel more shallow than 3 was. There's very little that I enjoy about UFC 5 that couldn't have just been added onto UFC 3. Shouldn't be an either/or kinda deal. I'll miss this game😢
@@Ghostface2point0 It’s just due to the sheer amount of evolution we got in 3 compared to 4 and 5. UFC 2 and UFC 3 were the two biggest leaps in the series in terms of new features and innovation. I think we are gonna get a similar evolution for 6. But at some point, just like the base engineering of vehicles have been figured out and everything else is just different bodies, new bells and whistles etc, thesame will happen for this series. A base grappling technology will emerge. A solid frame work of striking will emerge. Same for clinching. And it’ll get harder to innovate. Everything will become about polish, adding more content and pushing graphics.
@ that's fair. Nostalgia def plays a part for me as well considering 3 was the only game in the series where I truly took the time to learn the mechanics and play ranked regularly. There's just so many evolutions in 4 and 5 that don't really feel like true evolutions to me. Different isn't always better. I like that the clinch is so much more mobile and fluid than it was on 3, but it's more difficult to punish clinch spammers cuz there's no clinch deny mechanic, straight punches (or even full 3+ punch combos) have inconsistent stopping power when the opponent attempts clinches, there's almost no way to go from a submissive clinch position to a dominant one, you can't catch the opponent off guard by attempting takedowns once they clinch, etc. There's so many areas like this where we've been presented something very DIFFERENT from UFC 3 and I'm appreciative that the devs are trying new things, but the depth is sorely lacking and the skill gap suffers as a result. It doesn't feel like a TRUE evolution when things are more fluid but way less detailed. I hope UFC 6 can be mainly about adding the level of depth and complexity that made UFC 3 such a standout game
@@MartialMindit doesn’t seem like the base engineering for ufc games have been figured out though.. if it was figured out I wouldn’t have to knockdown my opponent 15 times to eventually finally knock him out. Stamina would actually matter and make sense. Why is it that when I’m smart with my strikes and stamina (I make them miss, throw less strikes, and land to the body) I hardly see any reward from it at all. I rock them multiple times with big shots and they get a lucky rock on me and were somehow at the same head health??? This should be figured out by now. All these things were great in ufc 3 and they were still okay in ufc 4. Ufc 5 is literally just rock em sock em robots
This was the ufc that made me fall on love. When they changed the striking on ufc 5 i had to quit. I dont understand why they would change the button layout. Nothing was wrong with it.
You forget to say about 1) Stopping power 2) Recording tool also. EA UFC 3 is a top of EA UFC evolution. And it was gone after GameplayDevUFC leaved the dev team.
The perk system 1-5 is what impacted the game and made ufc 2 and 3 the goat!!!! Also, making the block 30 percent stronger in 4 made this games stand-up UNBEARABLE!!!! The concept of a perk system with a 1-5 perk layering system is what made every fighter unique!!!! Taking that away was a mistake. Reimplement ufc 3 integral meta tahta applied to evolution of the technology over a decade!!! UFC 6 better be good this year!!!!!
For example, Nate Diaz had a perk which increased ALL TRANSITIONS FROM FULLGUARD, But with a speed increase with every transition from fullguard going from 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7!!!!!!!! Obviously the level of the perk determined the increase!!! Even Butcher allowed to increase all body hooks by the same rate!!!!!
What a time in MMA. I remember the intro fight was Conor vs Tony. Tony had just came off a win against Kevin Lee, and I think the idea was to unify with Conor. Obviously that didn’t happen as Conor was eventually stripped due to inactivity and we saw how everything played out but my god that would’ve been a great fight.
I still stand by 2 being the greatest UFC game. Secret grappling prompts and an awesome striking system (minus the parry). When UFC 3 dropped I went from like 1000 hours of played game to like 3 or 4 and quit overall.
The most underrated element in UFC 3 that they abandoned? CAF customization. I only play offline and mostly do fantasy tournaments, so I make a ton of CAFS for elite fighters that aren't in the game. I understand that I'm in the minority of players, but I still never understood why they had to completely nix customizable movesets, skill levels and ESPECIALLY not let CAFS wear UFC gear other than black and white. Doubling the number of CAF slots in UFC 5 was a small improvement, but it's still nowhere near as fun as 3.
Was my favorite UFC game for all those reasons at the time. I put it slightly higher than Undisputed 3. UFC 5 is the best ever but still lacks a lot of needed improvements. Grappling positions, submissions, clinch improvements etc. hoping UFC 6 brings it
not including the undisputed games as i don't know much about them but honestly ufc 3 was the proper true mma game for EA they should have kept ufc 3 up and running and just updating it instead of making ufc 4 and 5

a new ufc chapter should bring a clinch system more like ufc undisputed 3, now you find a lot of spammers that lock you to the cage. They should give the possibility of being able to continue hitting an opponent knocked out for a limited time, of course. I would like a more realistic career mode, maybe one where I have the opportunity to participate in press conferences etc, where social networks are really useful to create a bickering. the ability to change the weight class whenever I want, without waiting for the coach's message. I wish I could customize my character completely, including the possessions used and the statistics, with the simple function of not being able to use it online. I wish the game on ground was more realistic, because it's not realistic for a person to spam R2 to pretend to a position.
You can't strike and move at the same time. Not without some sort of lunge or step. In EA UFC games, the movement is INDEPENDENT from the striking; not realistic at all. UFC Undisputed 3's striking clears.
@@MartialMind I have like 3 videos on this topic. Walking involves taking one foot off the ground. Once that foot is off the ground, it's very difficult to generate force for a strike or quick movement of the head. There is also built-in head movement with the dashes/lunges. Stand up and try walking forwards/backwards while punching like they do in EA UFC 3. It's impossible to do well.
