Been coming since 1973 and got a heavy fleece-lined leather jacket with a neck strap for the winter during deep snow only to hear that you only wear things like that when it gets really cold and had light cotton for summer which also linked me with way-out people so please tell us what to wear apart from those designer beanies which look foolish on us, but did register the New York comparison which is probably the best thing you've got going for you.
