    The game should also have a view where the highways are hidden, so that we can see what's underneath them to fix the roads. When highways pile up, you can't even see anything at all.

      Yes I agree. Motorways should become a lot more transparent when you hold the mouse button. Redesigning road systems is almost impossible when the roads are all being covered

    Theory, at 39:55 right after you placed Hwy 17, 2 cars left to go to that building. You must not have seen it, cause at 40:00 you then stated that it was not being used so you redirected the Hwy. That roadway (green) is closed loop, so those 2 cars had no way to get back home, so they "stalled."

      Yeah I think that's what happened too. The ai when routes change goes a little wonky and tries to find somewhere to turn around. I think it was stuck between trying to turn in a driveway or use the roundabout

      Good theory. Adding onto it - I think that the even more specific bug is that at that intersection, the stalled car could choose to take the roundabout or ignore the roundabout and turn around in the house that is not connected to the roundabout (hidden under highway 2). Under normal circumstances, the house U-turn is faster, so it choose that. But it can't make that U-turn unless/until the intersection is clear, but the car immediately behind the stalled car is owned by that house. Essentially, I think the car that stalled did so to prevent the car behind it from stalling, and the whole thing would have been solved if the house were connected to the roundabout rather than to the road connected to the roundabout.

      Cars follow the original path home even if roads or highways have been moved or deleted. You can see the ghost highway is still there at that time point and stays until game over so it's interesting that the car stalled once the route home was deleted because that has never mattered before. Interesting.

      @40:58 paused time skip (7,559 trip) - Hwy 17 moved from cyan suburb to cyan arterial, but both cyan cars have left the cyan parking lot. A junction exists ahead of them where they can turn around tor return home (by means of the now-moved Hwy 17), so no ghost highway
      @41:02 unpaused time skip (7,606 trips to 7,651 trips) - "There's the surge"; Hwy 17 deleted (ghost remains - no path exists ); at unpause, the car is already stalled at the roundabout
      @42:18 movement on the roundabout - stalled car crosses street into house, the car two behind the stall turns into the roundabout, the stalled car immediately U-turns back onto the arterial
      @42:21 a second car stalls at the roundabout
      @41:33 original stalled car goes onto Hwy 17
      @42:47 game over
      Using the numbers of the cars in order beginning at 47:43 in close up:
      Car 1 crosses the street to turn around in the house there
      Car 2 stalls at the same turn (and @retroflux describes it as if it were car 1)
      Car 3 phases through both cars 1 and 2 to enter the roundabout
      Car 4 phases through car 2 to turn right
      Car 5 phases through car 2 to enter the roundabout
      Car 6 phases through car 2 to enter the roundabout
      Car 7 phases through car 2 to enter the roundabout
      Car 8 stops behind car 2
      So both cyan cars had serviced the shop, then the highway was moved, then both cars stalled at the roundabout trying to figure out if it was safe to enter the house not connected to the roundabout in order to turn around to get back to Hwy 17.

    Yep. That's why I don't use roundabouts. Under high traffic load, they lock up. Also, traffic lights can lock up under high traffic load if traffic gets stacked going and coming through the intersection; the light won't change. At least with traffic lights, I can remove the light and the traffic will start moving. Even after removing a locked up roundabout, it will take the traffic so long to unwind, the game will end.

      Yeah, I feel like the consequence of roundabout locking up is much more damaging than that of traffic light locking up. I'm kinda hesitant to use roundabouts during late game now because of that

      Well I've improved flow reducing pins at round dests with feeder roundabouts, where multiple roads out of a housing group were necessary and T/Y junctions stalled traffic worse. You do have to make sure it's well balanced and the road connections are smooth.
      Having all the houses around 1 road tile with no junctions is preferable.
      Early game cars on the roundabouts sometimes slow giving way.
      I actually feel frustrated with DPC as they've taken out what worked and force reliance on fragile things.

      @@Retroflux I only think traffic lights were improved slightly. They can help now sometimes at dest entrances in mid game until a better solution is available. But I generally find they still work best to improve flow on 3 way junctions where a quiet road joins fast traffic or to have traffic queueing at a first junction where it won't block another junction with backed up traffic, rather than the second one. Then they speed journeys.

    Played this weekly ~4 hours ago, the same exact bug ended my run... I feel like maybe the bug exists exclusively in this challenge due to the insane amount of highways available (I had at least 14 placed + multiple in reserve)?

      Hot take: maybe DPC knew the bug exists in but they couldn't reproduce it because they didn't have enough reports to show off the issue. Cue the weekly, where they give you up to 21 motorways and, well... ta-da lol.

      This bug killed a couple of my runs as well in other weekly and daily challenges. Not sure what causes it, but when I got it I had a roundabout either before or after a motorway.

    I think this is what happened: Before you moved Hwy 17 one or more turquoise cars had travelled across from the bottom left houses -- you can see one of the houses is missing its cars (the state at around 40:00 or 46:20 in the video). When you moved the highway, the stuck car was on its way back and then "tried" (or considered maybe?) to turn around to go to the new location of Hwy 17, which was then deleted shortly after, causing the car to give up on life and just sit there at that intersection (look at car when you delete the motorway at 41:00 or 46:27, immediately after it just dies). If you have to move a motorway within the same connected area it seems like this can happen since the original route gets deleted if there is a clear path back for cars already on a trip... I totally agree it should be considered a bug.

      Yes, based off the other comments I think it is the motorways. It might also be the roundabout as well, the game could be interpreting the circular loop as a "valid" way home, but the cars don't updated properly. Pure speculation, but anything that hard stops the cars need to be fixed ASAP - not even their error detection could solve it, so it's definitely in need of some work!

      Didn't see your comment, but just replied the same thing. I think on closed looped roadways, when roads change and there is no way back "home" for a car, it just stops, backing up traffic.

    just recently discovered your channel and so far I'm really enjoying it, but, would you mind doing an vid with colorblind mode turned on? if it makes the game harder or less enjoyable for you then no worries and keep doing what you're doing, all good either way, it's a very minor thing but i figured it wouldn't hurt to suggest it.

      You're right, you can tell because cars pause at intersections and if a driveway leads directly to a road cars passing don't slow.

    Retro i've been watching mini motorways for a little bit and just recently started playing the game myself, i dont even have all the maps unlocked, but i watched this video and thought i would go take a swing at this myself and, well, i placed 7th in the world with 11,430. The reason my run came to an end was the double business parking lots, cars were getting there, but weren't able to park, and i met my very timely demise :)

    Just started playing this game a few days ago, got about 2,500 trips on this challenge I think. Hopefully this video will help me improve a bit, aside from being entertaining, impressive score btw.

    Have you noticed that roundabouts take up a + shaped space? A bit hard to see since they're circles.

    The breakdown seemed to happen at 41:00. Right as you unbuild the turquoise 'surge' freeway, the front turqoise car at the roundabout stops...
    I've seen it happen with unbuilding freeways before, so I think there's a brief moment where a car can choose to take a freeway but then the freeway is deleted, so it loses it's route, doesn't know where to go, and just stops.

    This game also needs an optional indicator for better contrast or color variation for unconnected houses. And it would be really nice if you could see which houses spawned today - so that when your late game map is dense you can still tell where new activity is happening.

    I have stopped using roundabouts because f this exact reason. HAd a run today where i added a roundabout and all the cars just stopped luckily I saw the sudden change so i got time to fix it

    I know what happened I think. The car that got stuck initially came to the blue spot by the old highway you moved downwards, but when you moved it and then deleted the path back, some sort of bug caused the car to have no path back to its home. I think it was initially going to reroute through the new highway you moved, and therefore the old highway finished the deletion and left the map, but then you deleted the new one and I think the game didn't realize it was supposed to allow that car to go back home through the new highway you deleted.

    I think your greens got stuck because that was a regular intersection, stuck to the side of the roundabout. That same green was giving me problems as well, and I had 3 separate motorways feeding it. I had a infinite run going, and accidently deleted a motorway. It snowballed so fast it was gg. I got to 21 motorways tho.

    Is it just me or did roundabouts also not pause cars from being deployed if you delete them? I deleted a roundabout and reconnected roads with a simple junction and all cars stopping going out and I lost a game. The road was connected, but it was waiting for one final car that had used the roundabout on the way to the store to come back home and had the roundabout shape greyed

    If you back out to the main menu and then resume the game, it fixes that bug. Had to do it myself a few times.

    It's a bug, but what you did with that roundabout is also causing trouble, if you take a look at the right bottom corner, you'll notice that the road is not actually connected to the roundabout, ie it's making a left turn directly towards the shopping center. If you connect it properly to the roundabout, maybe the issue would not occur. Just my two cents :) still a pretty decent run tho

    Do you get the issue where deleting roundabouts leaves part of the roundabout still on screen and still in the way? I don't get it all the time, but it happens enough I dislike using roundabouts now.

    That roundabout looked like you had a T junction meeting it rather than clean sliproads. So it was 2 junctions with conflicting rules, which probably confused the code. There's something fishy with roundabouts now, sometimes the wrong cars give way and they don't flow as smoothly as they used to.
    Your point about space around turns is important, v. often it's traffic backing up blocking another junction which is game ending. The deletion bug where cars become lost and take crazy routes is bad precisely because suddenly a flood of wrong colour cars block an area, which HAS to run smoothly to meet demand. Then the pins being delayed, cause more cars to leave for distant parts. They seem to have made challenges to stymie the ideal segregation and give tougher decisions.
    The Dubai challenge looked fun, but I just wasn't concentrating enough to claim space and would have really evil high score blocking dest spawns. So I have taken a little break from MM to freshen up.

    if you remove a motorway while being used in peek it will crash the game and the cars will come to full stop.

    The ‘bug’ doesn’t look like a bug at all, at least not the bit you were pointing out
    That first car in the line was scuffed, it needed to go across and wasn’t, just a really bad junction which I think needed a tiny motorway aid, the cars going through each other was a car turning right into its house and as soon as it registers on that other road the cars going straight in visually clip it, but it was that first car in the line causing issues (it moved slightly, second went onto alt road, third picked up speed quicker as it had space
    Just that first one that’s a mystery, the rest is a completely normal jam
    (Edit: car going into drive off the highway refused to move, it went back into its house and it unjammed, even if it shouldn’t have blocked???? The clip, again, is absolutely nothing of note)

    With double assets it's completely different game. I almost hit 10k, but it's plenty of time to go.
    This bug is consequence of too hairy roundabout. Pathfinding algorithm should lock tiles and tell cut out cars how to get back. But it fails. Another reason why I prefer traffic lights.
    And yes, generally you don't need traffic lights at business exits and driveways. Cars don't slow down there.

      Figured it was pathfinding - circular loops are the bane of pathfinding algorithms. "Take a left, and another left, and another left, and another left, and..." lol

    I think bottom left Blue house's car try to go back home but you take his way back home and he is confused he sit at the enrty of this roudabout.

    Hey dude, you can email mini motorways support and let them know this happened. Since the patch I've had green house cars stuck as well and they got back to my email and said to let them know if it happens again. They're super nice. Good game btw

      I do, don't worry! :D But usually only if I have a reproduceable bug, it's rough for devs to just get a "road broke pls fix" so I try to send fully reproduceable steps :)

    Definitely looks like a bug. But it might be caused with the road making a junction next to the roundabout instead of joining the roundabout

      Circular movement is really tough for path-finding algorithms, so I wouldn't be surprised if adding a bunch of other factors is what compounds the issue into a death spiral

    The flat tire bug should go away if you exit the game and then resume.
    The traffic will still be there, but it will start moving.
    Also, this bug can happen in a challenge with zero motorways.

    4:30 Hm, I dont understand that. Can you eloborate? I thought left turning in general is always bad. And in this case a car returning and turning left will block cars coming from in front, no? Or do slip lines work differently?

      Turning left at a traffic light is pre-patch slipway speed, as opposed to without which is just hot garbage. Going onto the main road, the right-hand rule will apply so they'll get a short light change to merge quickly. Mirroring it to the bottom like it was before gives you a right-hand merge off of the main road going home (which is good), but then when you want to travel to the destination, you will 100% of the time change the light so you can turn left.
      tl;dr if you want to merge westbound, come in from the north, eastbound come in from the south, then you never have left-hand intersection light changes :)

    I'm wondering why you're not connecting the houses directly to the entrances of the stores but instead connecting them to a road outside

      Three reasons usually: 1) Gives more of a runway for cars to get backed up onto - the sharp decline in speed between a motorway and the parking lot can be problematic. 2) If I expect that I'll need to add an extra group into the mix for surge traffic, having the road built out farther gives me more options for getting the cars in fast. 3) If the motorway makes a sharp turn, I _think_ that causes slowdowns or clogs, but I haven't had time to test that yet.
      If I am confident that I won't get overloaded by a traffic surge and the motorway doesn't bend funny, I connect it straight into the structure, 100%

      The problem is that there's a dog on your face, 9 out of 10 doctors agree that a dog on your face can impair your abilities, get that checked out!

      NOOOOO my perfect ratio 😂 I have a lurker than comes by and dislikes all my videos. Before I blew up, all of my darkest dungeon videos had one dislike, all added in the span of five minutes. Maybe they're back!
