I've been fortunate enough to only be in the position of going hungry on rare occasions for a few days at most, but even that's enough to make sure you don't forget. The inability to concentrate. The inability to *rest*. Nothing to do but just... endure in a state of not-quite-pain until the money turns up in your account.

@@ecyor0 same here, I've been hungry sometimes, a week and half one time at most I think, but it's still seriously a painful feeling regardless. So exhausted and tired but you can't sleep because of the pangs in your stomach, the headaches, the nausea from being so empty for so long... This isn't the first time I've seen someone say they'd rather starve than get free food, and that is one of the most gross, entitled, "I've never been through a tragedy and judge other people for theirs" mindsets I've ever seen.

There actually might be a cure, but-- because of the FDA being so badly funded and pharmaceutical companies only being concerned about profit-- it's been in clinical trials since fucking 2009. Actually, it's funny, as I was listening to you tear this person a new one, I decided to do 15 min of research to calculate the "effective" tax rate for someone in the US vs. Sweden.
The first thing I stated is that the quality of outcome has to be equal (i.e. equal care, higher education, etc.). I then picked an electrical engineer as the test case (as there is good information about salaries for engineers on the web). I would also point out that I made the engineer the sole breadearner for a family of 4.
Here is a brief summary of what I got:
    US:
    Salary: $ 100,000 / yr.
Federal, State, Local, & Sales taxes: $ 20,800 / yr (average across US)
    Student Loans: $ 4,800 / yr
Health Care: $ 26,500 / yr (insurance, copays, & deductables)
Quality Schooling for children: $ 24,000 / yr
Total "effective" tax rate: ~76 %
Funds after "effective taxes": $ 24,250
    Sweden
    Salary: $ 40,500 / yr (equivalent)
Federal State, Local, & Sales taxes: $ 16,600 / yr
    Student Loans: $ 0 / yr
Health Care: $ 0 / yr (insurance, copays, & deductables)
Quality Schooling for children: $ 0 / yr
    Total "effective" tax rate: ~ 41 %
Funds after "effective taxes": $ 24,000 (equivalent)
Of course, this is a gross oversimplification, but I think the point is easy to figure out.

Made me realize, of course tyranny and profit motive dovetail. I also eventually put two and two together to realize that profit motive doesn't require monopoly to be oppressive, war lords are also profit motivated and they don't always have monopolies over a region, (in fact, the lack of complete control is often why they go to war and become war lords!)

Also I live in Europe and its not really slow, if you have emergencies you will get a doctor. Also Europeans go to the doctor twice as often as Americans, because everyone (I live in Germany) take routine visits seriously. That there is that high demand is a good sign, that people care about their physical and mental health. One of the biggest problems in healthcare is that there still is a private option, so some people are not interested in improving the system.
The only reason to go to the US is because of some high-risk operations that the EU doesn't allow, like for some cancer patients. Those people often need to crowdfund the treatment in the USA, because its not financed.
Funnily East Germans pretty much seem to agree that the GDR was horrible, but good on schooling, welfare and healthcare. Which makes sense because they are the main industries where there is market failiure (should be noted that the GDR was a garbage authoritarian state, that was doomed to fail and that should not be a model in any way, outside of the mentioned areas, but people even remember its socialized system fondly).

People wanna talk about copium, but the US healthcare system brings out the hardest copes I have ever seen! Got into it with a costumer about our healthcare system vs. France (a nation we both visited). He tried telling me "Nothing in France is open in the middle of the day, because people in France don't like to work", and "they pay 50% of their paychecks into their healthcare system."... Dude, I've been to France... Nothing was arbitrarily closed in the middle of the day, and French citizens only pay 4% more for their healthcare taxes compared to us in the States. Here we pay 3% REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT WE ACTUALLY HAVE INSURANCE!!!

Well, in the country I currently live in, we do have issues, but a lot of it has to do with lack of staff, we need more nurses, doctors, and for various other core functions.
Also, there’s been opened up for Private Hospitals getting some of the patients and receiving public funds!
The problem is, there’s a fixed price a hospital receive, (private or public), and the money follows the patient.
Now there’s only an X amount of doctors, so many of them both work private and public.
The private sector pays better - and private hospitals can pick the easiest patients, and get just as much for let’s say a knee surgery, as the public hospital would get.
This leaves the more complicated patients, (same knee surgery, but this patient has diabetes, severely obese, and has Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease), to the public sector, and these patients take more time, and cost more to operate.
This practice has been undermining the healthcare sector!
Also, as I mentioned, we lack healthcare professionals, and so does neighboring Norway, but Norway can attract Danish nurses because it pays better in Norway, and even better if a Nurse wanna go to Greenland and work 5-6 months a year.
Now we try to recruit nurses and doctors elsewhere, but we have very high requirements, and the system dealing with applications is way too rigid, but we've been promised the politicians will look into this!
Otherwise, the administrative sides is fairly efficient - yes, sometimes someone F up, and creates a scandal, but you know, it’s humans, and we try to find quick solutions when people make mistakes!
But even the administrative errors when they happen, are often related to the lack of staff….
So if you know any well educated nurses, doctors, bio analysts, etc., who won’t mind learning a new language, (most Danes speak at least some English and will happily do so, but it’s still a requirement that newcomers who wanna work in our public sector take courses in Danish), then please feel free to send then our way…. 😜

17:15 Doesn’t Conure confuse communism for anarchism? Communism isn’t really moneyless, it just gives the working class freedom over it. Also, not every country pursuing a communist path have failed doing it (Burkina Faso under Thomas Sankara 1983 or Bolivia 2006 under Evo Morales for example), it’s just that the examples we were taught in school (USSR, China) weren’t the best representatives.

    • @peppermintgal4302
      @peppermintgal4302 Год назад

Communism structures things around the idea that workers should be making the decisions as a class. (For example, when Soviet Russia was first established, the "Soviets" from which it got its name were "worker councils," which working class people could be elected into by other working class people, though generally to be elected up into higher Soviets, one needed to be in a lower one, kind of like a bracketed tournament. that bracketed tournament nature is where the problems set in, it allowed the production of yet another career politician class and it produced yet another strict hierarchy. There have been anarchocommunist governments, though, like the one that existed in Ukraine prior to being invaded during one of the world wars that had established, under the anarchist black army, soviets that I guess weren't tiered --- I'm not so familiar with those, but I have heard that the Ukrainian soviet system that existed at that time was successful in many metrics, including reduced racial tensions as it eased the conflicts between industrial workers and agricultural workers that often dovetailed with racial strife.)
Conure is promoting alternative forms of government that do have a strong eye towards working class rights, but don't necessarily do that. What they advocate for is a society that provides sufficient welfare and safety nets that, if Capitalist, could compensate for a lot of the social issues that plague Capitalist countries and cause the development of castes and stagnation, if I understand their position correctly. If I had to guess, Conure's position is probably more in the realm of social democrats or mainstream european socialist parties, neither of which are communist in nature. And in fact, Communists *have* had conflicts, even violent ones, with parties within these two spaces before.

_"the gov has so many regulations on medicine and drugs making it extremely difficult to get treatment"_
No... in the UK, the government set the prices on critical drugs, so they could affordably procure supply for the entire country, and that's feasible because they didn't have to compete with private medical providers... at time of writing, sure, waitlists are extremely slow in England, but that's because the Conservatives cut funding for public health spending and we left the EU, so it's difficult to reach a sufficient level of employment for medical staff... as Scotland has a degree of independence in their governance, their version of the NHS stayed much more effective. Going further, France has _dramatically_ higher taxes than the UK, and as a result, a dramatically more extensive healthcare system, to the point where families will have a nurse personally assigned for them, for the first couple of years after giving birth, to ensure they can be effectively cared for. So the result of being taxed more, is more robust public services.
