I really miss the little portable typewriter I learned to type on. I sold it to help finance a trip I wanted to take my then nine year old son on. He's fifty now and I never did stop missing that typewriter. I think your plan to type snippets for your journal is just what you should do. It will make you happy. My journal is an old vintage Collins 7 ring binder. I bought the hole punch that matches the seven rings. BTW, the seven ring is what Franklin Covey calls the 'classic' size or Half letter size. I love it and now I'm looking at it thinking, "I want to type some of my pages now! ".
You should get a typewriter again! Sounds like you already have the perfect system set up for it. I’m intrigued by the seven ring, will have to look that up.

Bean is forever the writing companion just making sure the surroundings are safe for you lol At least he can’t run off with the typewriter like he can with the pen ...... May you and yours have a happy productive year full of love happiness good health and new experiences 🥂😷👍🌍🇦🇺
He is such a wonderful companion always. So grateful to have him in my life. Hahah, it’s true he can’t take the typewriter! Have a wonderful new year to you as well.
I love this! I went to high school in the 80’s and we learned to type on IBM Selectric typewriters. So glad I learned to touch type. I don’t like virtual keyboards. I wish I could remember what my mom had at home.
Simply lovely! Plastic body is good as it is a heavier plastic than we find now. Peggy was probably a name given more in the 40's and 50's. I had a cousin named Peggy who was born in the 30' s so it may go back even further. Thank you for sharing and now I want a manual typewriter again. In the 60's, when I went to high school, we had clunky, chunky manual typewriters. Nostalgia😊
I remember I actually learned how to type on an Olympia 1960 typewriter :) It belonged to my landlady, she had lent it to me when I needed to type an essay for University (It was back in 1996, and I did not have internet yet). I have fond memories of that typewriter, even though it was so so difficult to hit the keys! Your typing is so smooth, I am very impressed! Off topic: I discovered your channel very recently, I can here for the fountain pens, I stayed for the music, the journal, and the beautiful videos. Thank you!!
It brings back so many memories of my schooldays. I loved typing on those old typewriters, it is the rythm and sounds that I missed when we changed over to electric typewriters, just not the same. Wishing you hours of fun!
Kissy Bean! So cute! I hope that you had a lovely New Year's and I am happy to see your lovely videos with your sweet Bean and Fig again in 2021. Thank you for sharing your new typewriter with us here on the interwebs.
In 1967 I had just graduated from UC Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in English. I almost demolished my trusty lightweight Olivetti that had served me so well ~ I felt it to be the albatross around my neck! I had to wait 25 years for the computer/word-processor to save me from a dark delirium of slavery to a tappity-tap monster! You are so cute, but so clueless!!!!🤷♀️ But you’re such a nice lady and I appreciate your love of old stuff. Yes, I too have a treadle sewing machine and antique melodian, so I do understand.💁🏼♀️💞
Sounds like quite the struggle! I wouldn’t say I’m clueless, but it’s true, I never had to go through college with a typewriter. I don’t get along with computers, I become incredibly impatient and frustrated with them. So, I continue to write with a typewriter. :)
I’m looking to add an Adler j4 to my collection. I collect and work on typewriters. I appreciated your input about the feel of the machine. If I may, there are felt pads that are usually used under the machine to keep it from moving. It is also a nice muffler to quiet the noise a bit. Amazon has them. The thicker the better. Thanks for you video.
Good luck in your search! It’s a great machine. I’m smitten for sure. I do have a felt pad under her for this video, and normally, where I’ve been sitting for typing it hasn’t been an issue. But I think because of how I had to be situated to accommodate the camera tripod it was a little wonky.
Congratulations to the new typewriter. If you enjoy this Adler for longer typing sessions, check out Adler Tippa 1963-1966 portable models, great smaller machines and very snappy & easy to carry with excellent result typing daily journals or bigger project. I have 13 different manual machines now (downsized) and Adler Tippa in those years mentioned a good quality typewriter, also plastic cover as yours but metal base & frame. Very easy to maintain, durable plastic case for typing outside. Between the most satisfying machines, the Adler Tippa and Hermes Rocket are my favorites. Happy New 2021 and stay safe. *** Looking forward to more videos this year.
Thank you so much for your suggestions! I would like my next to be a portable. I had looked into the Hermes Rocket and Baby. The Tippa hadn’t been on my radar. Happy new year to you as well!
@@adventuredenali You are welcome, with the talent in journal writing and nice fountain pen's a small portable typewriter comes very handy sometimes. About Hermes Rocket or Baby, they are also great small machines, but it's something special with those Adler Tippa and snappy key action & quality. Another positive thing is the larger return lever on Adler compared with Hermes, same size as bigger machines. Good idea with a 3-hole binder and adding typed pages, I did a smaller journal with glued typed pages combined in different colors & printed photos, as you pointed out the thickness can be a issue at the end, less then 100 pages works out alright for this kind of application. Anyway, I hope you will enjoy the new Adler and keep an eye out for the smaller version in the future. * Happy Typing *
My second typewriter is an Adler Tippa. I quite love typing on it, although it needs some maintenance done before I can use it more. My first is an Olympia SM3. Typing on it super tiring, whereas the Tippa seems quite easy to use.
In the 90’s when people started using a computer already, my school had a typewriter lesson besides computer. My typewriter teacher was so awful that I told her,”miss, in a few years you will be quitting this job you have because everyone will be using a computer!”
A binder sound like a better idea than the wooden cover journals I build for when I wrote on a typewriter 🤣 good idea! I love how fluent your fingers are on it! I type with two fingers on mine 😂
I love Adlers - got the big sibling of this, a 1965 Universal 39 (almost identical to the one off The Shining, though that was a 1968… and in the book, Jack used an Imperial anyway). Also, Kingsley Amis used one. Know what you mean about the weighty keys - quite a workout for the fingers after pampering them on a MacBook right. But such a wonderful tactile experience!
Interesting about the typewriter. I have one Smith Corona in my basement, and have not used it in years. But I do like a good mechanical keyboard. I prefer to write with my fountain pens, but typing really is important to writing too. It may be my math/science background, but I'm fascinated by old adding machines and slide rules. You've given me some inspiration to explore those in my channel.
Writing with fountain pens and typewriters I think both access or fire up different parts of the brain. It’s so wonderful to be able to have access to both - and enjoy them both. Smith-Coronas are great. Do you know what model it is? I’m hoping to one day bring a Silent Super into the collection, but I need to make space... These machines take up a bit more space than a fountain pen does, ha. Oooh the old adding machines are incredible. A friend of mine just bought one, and now I’m encouraging another friend to buy one for her young son to tinker with, haha
@@adventuredenali By a funny coincidence, mine actually is a Smith-Corona Silent-Super. It has the greenish paint on it. It might be a portable typewriter, but it's very heavy!
What a brilliant idea...6-ring binder for both written and typed entries! You got me all excited, and I'm going to haul out my A5 Filofax and start. Thank you❤️
I so enjoyed this video! Bean is always such a delight to see. I love my 1972 Adler Contessa but it’s a total finger workout to strike those keys. Our Adlers share the same satisfying ding though and that makes it all worth the effort. 😁
Yay! I am so glad! Thank you as always :) That ding is sooo sweet. It’s a very softly, politely spoken, “Excuse me, it’s time to move us back to the beginning.” :)
Congratulations on your beautiful Adler! I wanted to share with you another tip... The reason your machine is sliding is the rubber on the feet has hardened over time. You can try and find new rubber feet for it on Etsy, or...a solution that will help all of your typewriters is a Non-Skid Typewriter Pad. There are a few on Amazon for around 20$
Happy New Year, wow what a lovely typewriter. Your so quick at typing on her too, I would be so slow yet one day I want to buy a typewriter and give it a go too. Chels :)
Had you considered a disc based notebook like the Levenger, or Staples Arc, or fancier Atoma systems? You can peel out and move around the pages easier than a ring binder IMHO. And, with the special hole (mushroom shaped cuts) punch you can use any paper you like in them including pen-friendly and art papers. I have some Atoma notebooks and the, admittedly expensive, hole punch and really like their versatility.
I had to smile when the typewriter slid to the side and you had to adjust it, mine does that too a lot, I wonder if a piece of cloth underneath might give it a bit of traction. My grandmother was called Peggy, short for Margaret!
Love the idea of a binder journal. Can't wait to see your take on it:) you could also bind your loose leaf entries and have one book of 2020 thoughts you typed?

Are ferrets safe to keep as pets? Seems a bit dangerous
They’re not dangerous in the least. They’re domesticated, very tame and friendly. :)
