- There has been a lot of change to the Detroit Lions defense in the 2024 offseason. Moves made on the defensive line and revamping the defensive backs for the second straight season. But not much has changed at linebacker. I believe that is because the Lions are thrilled with the chance they took at pick #18 in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Jack Campbell will probably end up going down as one of the most beloved Lions, he just has that mentality, work ethic and character.

Been a die hard Lions/Hawkeye fan since the mid 80's and i swear i had this feeling right before the 18th pick that we were gonna draft an absolute pillar for our team and when they said captain jack i lost my friggin mind because i knew they did. No where to go but up for Jack! Holy moly it is a great time to be (an actual) lions fan!
P.s. I wore my Lions starter jacket the day after their 16th loss. I bet there aren't a lot of people who can honestly say that.

I was born n raised in Florida but moved up to Michigan for about 2 years n I’ve now been a lion for over 25 years and I’ve always wore my colors even when we were 0-16… So I can say I did the same but there weren’t many of us…
Dan Campbell came out and said Jack Campbell is 'A Man', meaning, I believe, he is looking physically & mentally improved over last year.
That can only be good news for the Lions.

I think he has all the physical and mental tools to do it.

The more I read into him the more I really began to appreciate who he is and what he has done. The future is bright!
The Mike backer is the hardest linebacker position to learn. You have to know where everybody is supposed to be not just where you are supposed to be. That takes a little time to learn. By recent accounts the coaching staff said he has. He will be better in year two. That will be amazing to see because he was pretty darn good in year one!
Agree with this 100%. Hopefully Anzalone has been key with this learning.

99.7 of all my mocks included Capt. Jack, cuz U just don't see guys w/his height, build, athleticism, RAS, & elite production at the college level as a prospect everyday. He immediatley reminded me of Mike Lucci, Butkus, Spielman, Urlacher vibes-in a 2024 model. Trust me, he will be noticed this season! 🤔👍🏾🎙👍🏾#OnePride🦁

Campbell is a stud ! I want to point out something you have said. The Lions did not take a chance on him, he was the highest ranked player on their board at that pick..
I just meant based on the positional value. He was def a guy they wanted. I may have mispoke but truly meant they were risking the 18 pick by choosing LB.
There was a play last year, I want to say against Minnesota, where he shifted McNiell to the left and Mcniell made the play and I was like this guy is gonna be a certified STUD

He pushed Buggs butt over right before the snap, and Buggs got the solo tackle. Capt'n Jack and Hutch together are a wrecking crew.

For some reason ESPN has Anzalone at the Mike and Campbell at Will even though Alex took more snaps at Will and Campbell took more snaps at Mike last season lmao. Alex is actually an incredible Will LB so now that Jack is ready for the green dot it should free Alex up even more to fly around the field like a true Will.
Both AA and JC will be able to naturally fit now into the positions they should be in but I am most excited to see Barnes thrive in his role moving forward!

The Lions needed guys that can tackle that wasn't sure at first but I'm sure glad we got this guy now running backs don't get away from him Go Lions
He is a pure tackling machine. Once he gets more comfortable with the scheme and calls he will lead this team in tackles for sure!
Lions just need to suck it up and play the kid at his natural MLB spot. He was big when he played it last year. I don't know if the staff wanted him to experience other positions so he could understand the defense better. Campbell has talked about how he got more comfortable with the front 7 last year, maybe there was intension in that decision
I thought the same thing last year. But I think you’re right that they wanted to groom him into his natural position. Also needed time to adjust to the scheme and other player tendencies.

Good stuff today I think that is his natural position being in the middle and I think anzalone is a little faster so he can Patrol the side and run players down I watch the Chicago Bears and their 46 defense back in the day and they just got after you I wish we could have a couple of plays like that with our new cornerbacks patrolling we got to get after the quarterback the quarterback must go down and he must go down hard Go Lions
The defensive front will really dictate how the backend does. We have more talent for sure in the secondary but its always predicated on the pass rush. Hoping Reader and Davenport along with a healthy James Houston will be the answer.

Hard to navigate the complicated licensing rules of YT but I understand what you mean. Maybe in the future. I do all my own editing. Appreciate the feedback.
I can't believe that the Green Bay pundit is still saying that Brad made a mistake taking Gibbs and Campbell in the first round. He said Jahmyr is maybe in the top ten RB's in the league and he thinks that Campbell may become a halfway decent linebacker for the Lions this year. He also predicted that their lack of an elite edge to help out Hutch will leave them struggling to have a decent defense.
We will look at those two picks as the beginning of the Detroit's road to a Superbowl Championship.

Don't know about Campbell taking over for AA. Maybe taking over the green dot, but not the position since AA is a will linebacker as of 2023. Houston, Betts and Barnes will compete for SAM backer.
Not sure it will break my heart if either of these guys play the Mike or Will position. AA is still listed as the Mike and JC the Will but I believe you my guy. My main point is you have a guy that is being groomed to take over the linebacking core (the green dot play caller) and take control of this defense. AA will gladly allow this to happen IMO.

And if AA sticks on the other side than I am very happy having both him and Campbell on the field more together. James probably moves more towards the edge as well. Campbell not a true fit as a Lions LB. He's more suited as a Steeler, Raven or another storied LB team. Lions will wreak him

I look at Jack Campbell as a smaller Hutch. He should develop into a great LB. We have so many young players.
After we resigned Alex A it made all the sense in the world for Brad Holmes drafting J C.
Alex A will be one of the biggest reasons JC succeeds. I’m glad he got to learn from him last year.
