“Here he comes. Chautauqua! Boom! Right over the top.” Chautauqua is chasing three straight TJ Smith Stakes wins in 2017. Can he do it? Here is his breathtaking 2016 victory.
I cry every time I watch Chautauqua - a totally superb and beautiful spirit - and I laugh every time I watch the clip of 'failure' to jump from the barrier from barrier 4. If I owned him I would never ever move him on to another owner for retirement - I would provide him with whatever the horse version of penthouse suite with 24 hour room service and 360 degree views and just take every day with a heart full of love for being blessed to have him in my life. He is not a business, he may have been a money making machine but he is a truly glorious presence who needs to be cherished. I hope he lives a wonderful retirement.
Chatauqua is the only horse had the guts to show to human, that horses have their rights and emotion too. He refused to run few times in front of thousands of people. That takes courage...Chatauqua is truly the Horse's Champion! No matter how many horses have been great champions in this sport, I am sure each of them would salute Chatauqua for his action! Truly a Champion of Champions!!!
I'm just wondering what happened during this Grey Flash's later career when he simply refused to start and stood still in the stoll, and he did this so many times. It was just unbelievable for me, just the same as his performances before his miserable fortune eventually came.
To follow up on this...there is a wonderful article that answers all your questions and it is posted on YT. Called Chautauqua's New Journey. It's a great story re the coming together of a beautiful retired racehorse and a retired lovely lady jockey....make sure you go looking for it. Just remember Chautauqua is now only ten years old and that showjumping horses often are competitive until at least 15-18 years.
BOOM!
Happy retirement, old Champ. No-one should ask any more of you.
