If you want affordable housing get rid of the dollar... For as long as we have the dollar and paper currency we have counterfeit currency which drives inflation through the roof which drives the price of rent for the roof you want to fix the problem either give people place to live for free or get rid of the dollar altogether... You losing this election would be the best thing possible so you can get back to running humanity Forward... Given the particular outliers of this particular universe version we are in currently that seems to be the best possible thing that could happen. This is just getting you in the mud... While the real battle is going on in the sky. SPOT ON. I lived in Williamsburg and so many buildings had parking lots, which were maybe filled about 20% tops. I remember wondering "Why did they even build a parking lot?" There was so much wasted space! As per usual, Yang nailed it.

Again teaching us things to consider that we might not if we're not in/from cities. I've always lived in rural areas and the regulations for unneeded parking lots are something that hadn't even entered my mind while thinking about housing.
I've thought about how putting solar cells above covered parking lots could improve energy for the connected buildings, but never did it occur to me that the sheer level of crowding in cities could be worsened by minimum parking regulations.

As a native New Yorker, but no longer a resident, the issue of affordable housing is really a seriously underrated issue. Haven’t lived in NYC since 1988 but even back then it was a problem! Hope he gets in!
Love how comprehensive this is. Most politicians miss the zoning component, including parking and mobility. Yang understands how these intersect.
No better person synthesizes information and comes up with the most reasonable solutions for the most difficult of problems. This is what every country needs a smart caring leader.

I hope voters will realize when voting for a mayor in a municipal election to put aside considerations as to which party this person belongs to. Vote for someone you can trust to uplift the city, such as New York city. I have been New York city and had seen its current conditions; I hope that voters will vote Andrew Yang as their mayor as he is an experienced successful businessman, and also is someone who have empathy for the poor.
Affordable housing is key to helping folks move themselves up from poverty! First make it attractive, don't let the buildings scream "poor folks live here!" Make it close to transportation and amenities, restaurants, gym, parks, museums, schools, and community centers...and even a community police center.

Mr. Yang, you need to get rid of the zoning laws that limit the supply of housing and increase the cost!
Currently when "affordable" apartments are included in new buildings the income requirements disqualify anyone or any family thats even lower middle class, you have to be making very very little income to qualify... And then somehow the cost of those units are still much higher than the market despite being called "affordable." It doesn't make any sense to me because clearly anyone/family making low enough income to qualify sure as heck couldn't sustainably afford the rent, so what's up with this? I don't hear any politician talking about the bogusness of what is being tolerated as considered to be "affordable" by our city.

Even as a libertarian, it's clear to me that Andrew Yang is honest and open, and has a good head on his shoulders. This kind of policy suggestion is a realistic, useful, and efficient implementation of tax dollars that will greatly help so many people. Rather than suggesting lowering rent ceilings further as many Democrats have, which lowers incentives for businesses to construct housing, he suggests building more housing with tax dollars which will naturally lower rent prices by raising supply which lowers demand. It also seems like he's thought everything through in its practical implementation, including removing regulations on single unit housing, minimum parking requirements, and other contributions to city congestion and housing shortages.
If this guy is on the ballot in 2024, ya'll better vote for him.

When developers put up high revenue units, they should also have to create units for lower income people in the same proximity. When rentiers supply to wealthy areas, they should also have to provide a certain percent of units for lower income people.

I’m with him to the point of utilizing federal funds to help fund this project. Let New York, and developers convert hotels into housing. There are many out there with the resources to do this, they just need the right incentive.
