@ControlCityFreak You have I-70, US 24, US 287 and State Route 71. Might have some good to say about the signage to/from Limon for a change! 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 LOL
I like this concept. I think how you presented your first one, however, is a little chaotic. With the bouncing in different directions. I have two (independent) suggestions to ponder over to. 1. Do all outgoing signs first. Maybe do all north, then all east, then all south, then all west. Then all incoming/loops. I think it would seem less jumbled and more smooth flowing that way. 2. Maybe different parameters than metro areas. I had thought maybe by highway, but then it defeats the purpose of "Todd's the way it should be" I think this could be a potential baseline for ranking the states if you do it by state because it would give the fault to the state that is responsible as opposed to metros where one state could nail it (if a multistate metro), while the other state could choose Limon. Wish you well with this new series!
Probably a common comment, but it would be cool to have a small map next to you as you reference every sign, so we can see just where you're talking about. I find myself constantly pausing and looking at Google Maps through most videos.
I've thought about it but I haven't come up with a way to do it that isn't a ton of extra work. Need another 90,000 or so subs so I can quit my job, but right now I simply don't have the time
Fun Fact, while Omaha isn’t on any overhead signs there’s a mileage sign a little after the 29/35 split northbound on 29 that signs council bluffs for 170 miles, it’s covered by trees so it kinda blends in and is hard to spot
When I was growing up, during the ‘60s and early ‘70s, my spellbound fixation on highway sign patterns was something that isolated me, as there was no way back then to know that any other person, much less that thousands had the same fascination with something so trivial. The pre-internet era was a different time.
If you ever do one of these for Chicago, there used to be a sign on I-90 at 294 that had “Rockford-Madison” and not just “Rockford.” It’s on street view from 2012.
Happy Thanksgiving, Todd! 5:34 maybe people can submit roadside milage signs for extra points if worthy, looks like you’re mostly ranking on overhead signs which is reasonable. Ik New England might not rank well in this series but a roadside milage sign for Providence, RI 90 miles away not far after the NH border on 95SB in MA is kinda as good as it gets for long distance, but then again that sign is far from Boston proper & Boston metro lol
You're soon going to do I-376, My Favorite hometown interstate, with 79 being my second. I have a handful of requests, but i won't do all of them because i don't want to hog this whole interstate. #1: I would like to see Exit 31 for state route 51, I used to take that way to get fireworks for the 4th #2: I would like to see Exit 59 for Robinson Town Centre, it's a very cool shopping place in my opinion, no thanks to the traffic there sometimes. #3: There is a sign when you come out the Squirrel hill tunnel, and cross the bridge on the right that says "Kennywood park, use Swissville Exit" i would like to see that because, Well.. Kennywood Hype! #4: I would like to see Exit 80 U.S. 20 Business, for Monroeville. It's where the Monroeville mall is and i went there a few times, it pretty good. #5: a little info and i didn't know this, with interstate 376 and 279, 279 has an even number, but doesn't go back to 79, and 376 goes off 76, and comes back to 76. In my opinion they should change 376 to 276, and 279 to 379. I just want to hear what do you think about it? Once again I'm sorry if I'm asking to much, just really like this interstate, (Despite the god awful traffic)
As always, great analysis! One disagreement: I-49 wouldn’t be signed for Springfield. Fastest route from KC to Springfield is I-49 SB to Harrisonville, then Exit, East to MO-7 then South on MO-13. I’ve driven that route and is an “easy” drive and gotta be faster that I-49 to I-44 and back NE to Springfield. Thx!
For I-49, I'll sign both Joplin and Springfield until we meet MO 7 which is signed for Springfield, and then, we'll stick to Joplin for the rest of the route. I agree to sign Joplin on I-49 from Kansas City.
I live in Topeka and travel often to KCK via KTA. Something that I've noticed in the last couple years, even though I've always been intrigued by how these signs are controlled at certain levels, and what you've showcased on your videos, are how inconsistent the KTA and frankly the City of Lawrence is, with all the US Highways that go through town. Take WB 70 for instance, the signage at exit 204 has all 3 highways listed. From the 1mi to the 1/2 mile, the order of them listed even changes. I dont know if theres a standard for what highways should be listed first, lower to high number, or how major the highway is in its overall route. But then exit 202 only lists US59 when it actually meets up with 40 as well. None of it makes sense. Even on k10, 40 is like an afterthought to 59. Since you're from there, I was wondering what you think of all that. My beef with how inconsistant the i70 signage is, is that those signs are relatively new, maybe in the last 10 years when they possibly redid the KS river bridges. Anyway, enjoy the content. Rock Chalk.
I'm guessing 40 is an afterthought on South Lawrence Trafficway (K-10) because it's a stupid, pointless re-route that nobody acknowledges. 6th Street is US 40 forever, and the only way that would change is if they decided to reroute 40 on K-10 all the way to 435 and run it on 435 and KC's 470. 202 used to say 40 and 59 I think, and 204 said either 24 and 40 or 24 and 59, can't remember which. I always thought it was funny that 24 was always one of the two because North Second Street at that point is 40 and 59 and not 24.I'm old enough to remember 70's awkward exit from KTA at 182 (East Topeka) and was signed for "Denver Colo" Rock Chalk!
@ yeah, sometimes 169 is faster, sometimes I-49 is. Depends on time of day ig. Tough to say on I-49 south, but I’d sign either Joplin/Springfield or Joplin/Tulsa or maybe both until the Clinton exit.
14:58 i had to look this up, but apparently omaha has a larger metro population than winnipeg, but only by 150k or so, so maybe omaha is the most justifiable city for the whole run of 29 going north. unless someone wants to argue about whether sioux falls or... fuck idk fargo... would have similar relative importance
I-5 Downtown San Diego Anaheim Buena Park from the Harbor Blvd interchange) East Los Angeles from the 91 interchange or from Beach Blvd) Valencia from East Los Angeles interchange) From Magic Mountain area, Bakersfield. At Harbor Boulevard Sorrento Valley, thrb to downtown SD, then Tijuana (ratherv han "Blank" Anaheim, if you are going to put anything up on the signs (the Disney parks are a far bigger draw than the legacy "Santa Ana" signs we see. I would give the Anaheim destination already on I-5 from either the I-15 jump or from downtown SD itself, northbound as opposed to the present mix of Santa Ana and LA signs. signing Buena Park makes sense because of as Knott's Berry farm, Medieval Times, the Pirates Dinner Theater and the Wax Museum. Giving Valencia makes sense because of the Magic Mountain Resort. Caltrans gives Sacramento too early on 5, 210, and 405. A)l three should be Valencia and I would also put Palmdale up on the signs because you have somewhat of a substantial junction of I-5,/210/405/SR 14. ON THE SB I WOULD SIGN IT Valencia/Santa Monica/Pasadena .
@ControlCityFreak if you were going to sign something intermediate, Anaheim rather than Santa Ana. I like what they do in Sorrento Valley "5 South - Downtown SD", "805 SOUTH - National CITY/ Chula Vista".
Todd needs to do this video just for all the roads going thru Limon.
Hmmm
@ControlCityFreak You have I-70, US 24, US 287 and State Route 71. Might have some good to say about the signage to/from Limon for a change! 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 LOL
Happy Thanksgiving, Control City Freak! I’m thankful for the great videos you put up every Thursday!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving!!! I wonder 🤔 where Limon will fall.. lol 😆 !!
Todd's favorite place to go!

Thanks! Yeah might experiment with an inbound/outbound thing. I already ranked the states so looking to do something different here
Gr8 video Todd, and Happy Thanksgiving! Until next time, keep on Trucking. :) 👍
P.S. Thankfully there was no 'L' tier city in the KC Metro. lol
Happy Thanksgiving!
For the I-610 video, show exit 8D bc that's the exit for KHOU where Neil Frank, grandfather of my favorite singer, Forrest Frank, used to work
Thanks, you got it!

Truth. Same for me in the 80s

Thanks! Will do Chicago for sure. You got it!
Happy thanksgiving Todd 🦃🦃🦃
Happy Thanksgiving!
Would definitely like to see Dallas and Houston in this series (could even lump Fort Worth’s control cities with Dallas)
Will probably lump them together, yeah. Same metro
Happy Thanksgiving, Todd!

Happy Thanksgiving! Yeah might have to modify the distance standards for the Northeast
L tier: Limon, of course
S through F tiers: Anything but Limon
I-80 in Pennsylvania?!
Esp since we're talking major metros' signage here. Colorado's gonna get dragged for signing Limon on I-25 between Denver and the Springs.
Ready for Detroit! Go Lions happy thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving!
it's good too see home ! only if it's on your channel!
When are u gonna do US 60?

I can see a lot of B-C-D tiers in the eventual Omaha/Council Bluffs video of this series
Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
Happy Thanksgiving!
Control City Freak makes the best videos!
Thanks!
@@ControlCityFreak I would do anything for you!
I've never seen so many dancing arrows on signs. Does KDOT not believe in APLs?
Happy Thanksgiving!!
Happy Thanksgiving!
@@ControlCityFreakI’m excited about your future videos
@ thank you
I hope he does one like this for the Denver metro so we can hear more about Limon.
2 Broncos games every year so can guarantee it will happen

NY and LA would be the most interesting because of their dense freeway networks. Chicago is also interesting.
Yeah I think those will be good.
All 3 digit freeways should be signed for only the suburbs they serve
475 in Macon? 294 in Chicago? Context matters on pretty much every road sign
Happy thanksgiving!🦃🦃
Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving, Todd

I would like to see if you ever do El Paso.

Hey, I sent you an email on some ideas. I had to change the interstate system if I ever had the power I would like your opinion on that
I though your surname is power cant wait for surname reveal
Todd Power Surname reveal
I-805 is known as the Jacob DeKema Freeway
I’d rather see I-49 South signed for Tulsa since it meets I-44, is concurrent with it, and it’s roughly the fastest way there.
True. Google considers 169 to be the better route tho
@ yeah, sometimes 169 is faster, sometimes I-49 is. Depends on time of day ig. Tough to say on I-49 south, but I’d sign either Joplin/Springfield or Joplin/Tulsa or maybe both until the Clinton exit.
I think two control cuties for i29 St joe and Omaha because after StJoe there is nothing left in Missouri
If this was DC I 95, I 270, I 66, and I 395 would be in either A or B tier
270 and 66 would be C at best
Should this take off I am looking forward to New York City
That one’s gonna be feature film length lol, so many roads to go over
