Fan correction: that sound effect used for that bald eagle prop is actually a red-tailed hawk call.

If you go back and watch the entire interview with Melissa Rauch, Conan does not mention how he hits stage 25 with a tennis ball, but he DOES show a throwing motion with his arm (immediately following the moment in the brief interview clip within this Fan Correction). Also, regarding the "didn't hit the stage" assertion -- if you listen closely, you can hear the ball make a second bounce immediately following the "carom" off of Melissa's head. Although it is not clear where it hit, the timing between bounces and the arc of the ball was such that it could not have been the ground. Perhaps it did hit the stage wall after all.
This was probably the most hilarious Fan correction come back thing ever.

They would have landed safely. There is enough air pressure to compensate for the hole to at least land safely. The show exaggerated the scenario for dramatic effect.

Conan said he hits it with a tennis ball, but didn't say it throws it with his bare hand. It may be with a racquet and in that case a strong swing can get a ball that far.
When Conan steps out of the studio during a live taping, why isn't the red light on? Could the tennis ball sequence have been produced *before* the taping?
Shouldn't the ball at that velocity (including being hit by the parachutist) have killed Melissa?

There are remarkably few corrections that themselves wouldn't prompt corrections, but I'm glad he doesn't respond to corrections on corrections. There is limited comedic value in harping and nitpicking on the same concepts over and over. We could also complain how the ball made a "ding" sound in space, how balloons don't deflate like that, etc.

A running gag I love about this show is the shitty puppet birds.
Actually, 275 feet is just a little less than a football field and I've thrown a tennis ball that far before. I guess with that building right in front though it'd be near impossible to to throw it at that angle and make it. But still, 275 feet is doable.
Unless you are a professional QB, you cannot throw 92 yards... Most NFL QB's can't throw 92 yards
If you're talking a football, then yea, I can't throw it 275 feet. But this is a tennis ball and i've actually thrown one near the full length of a football field. Baseball outfielders throw that distance too and that's with a heavier ball.
jkcrusher18 Being heavier helps an incredible amount, because air resistance is the biggest drag. Which is also why a tennis ball is an odd choice for distance throwing, because they're designed (by being fuzzy) to not move as fast as they would otherwise (because it makes returning a tennis serve less impossible).
jkcrusher18 If you want to be even pickier, Conan said "I could hit it with a tennis ball...", he didn't mention throwing it. Using a racket, a tennis player could easily hit a tennis ball the length of a football field.
