Agree. This is a soldiers song to the core. No righteous person wants to kill another human, no matter how much we have been to taught to hate. I call a Brothers in Arms any soldier that became a soldier with honorable intention. We have been all lied to badly at times and too often, our 'enemy' was doing nothing more than what we would have done in our own country, protecting our family and country. Dune , U.S. Army 67-70.
I have always heard the version by Dire Straits - I heard it when I came home from the Falklands War - a shit show I was 20 with the 4-2. I had buried those days my "baptism of fire" my first war... and now today 6/10/2023 I came here... and my world is crumbling apart again - God why do you remind me of this and the other wars and battles that I can not tell.
Just read this & I really hope you're doing okay now. I'm about six years younger than you & experienced the shit show from this side of the world. My father (also 4-2, 40 & all else from late 1950's till 1983/4) He wanted to be there beside you all at the time but ended up being one of the senior NCO's who visited family back in the UK. He's very old & frail now but he'd still be the kind of man to listen to you, he'd hate to think that you were feeling this way.

Joan has such an hauntingly beautiful voice … I’m 70 years old this year and it seems that I’ve been in love with Joan forever …. I’ve been lucky enough to see her in concert a couple of times over the years and her incredible persona and voice has kept me captivated … in my heart she’s Forever Young ❤️
I'm a couple of years along from you....... Later on in life, I realized Joan far too liberal for me. But the beauty of her singing transcends that. She is an incredible talent, and incredible voice, an incredible person. I've been listening to her shamelessly and ecstatically for over 50 years now.......and am blessed for it.
I’ve known the original Brothers in Arms, it seems like forever. It has always spoken to me, but hearing Joan sing it for the first time has me near to tears.
A Vietnam Veteran friend of mine summed her up perfectly when he said, 'I never agreed with her politics but you could not fault her sincerity and commitment.' I bought her albums in the 1960s and saw her in concert three times - 2012, 2014 and May 2018. 2012 was a week after my Mother died, 2014 was the just before the last time I saw my younger Brother alive. This was posted on my 67th birthday and it prompted me to attend the 2018 concert.
Joan is about a year older than my mother. I grew up listening to mom harmonize with Joan Baez albums. I got to shake her hand once almost 40 years ago as she was arriving at a concert venue in East Lansing, Michigan.

Dire Straits, one of the more left field of the punk rock revolution. First time I saw them was supporting The Damned at The Hope and Anchor, Islington!
She has a voice that can go on forever! Have been a fan since the 60's. Will be a fan forever. Love you!!!! Joan is one of the greatest. She really cares about those that have been left out.
She does t every time. She sings the first note & I just react. I saw her live at The Albert Hall in the 60s & it was like pouring ice cubes down my spine. Same thing now. What a Voice,
My wife and I traveled to Wales from Sicily to see Joan's farewell concert tour a year or so ago. We have loved her from when we first heard her in 1962, and we will always remember our thrill of our first listen. It has never subsided! We go back to our favorites often to love her all over again. Thanks for the songs, Joan.
I'm Scottish, Mark was born in Scotland though brought up in England. This song means so much to me and Joan has the most beautiful voice. Cant stop listening to her.
I've never heard Joan Baez sing like this! I love it. Her voice is so beautiful, I wish she hadn't spent so many yrs singing Dylan songs. She could sing more memorable songs with her unforgettable voice! Dylan was a good song writer but Joan Baez had the unsurpassable voice to make anyone famous!!!! She deserved the best!!
I really must apologise, but I simply don't have the words to describe how this ladies voice makes me feel, I can only assume that there is another place.
It takes someone with the talent and conviction of Joan Baez, to work this song so well and this is an absolute masterpiece by Dire Straits but it's also brilliant by Joan. You GO GIRL!!!!!
These mist covered mountains Are a home now for me But my home is the lowlands And always will be Some day you'll return to Your valleys and your farms And you'll no longer burn To be brothers in arms Through these fields of destruction Baptisms of fire Ive watched all your suffering As the battles raged higher And though they did hurt me so bad In the fear and alarm You did not desert me My brothers in arms There's so many different worlds So many different's suns And we have just one world But we live in different ones Now the suns gone to hell And the moons riding high Let me bid you farewell Every man has to die But its written in the starlight And every line on your palm Were fools to make war On our brothers in arms
I got to see her sing standing by a swimming pool at Eseyan (sp?) institute in Calif 1967. Got close-up pictures as she practiced to herself a few feet away. She and her husband had just gotten out of jail for anti-war protests. What a gift to the world is her voice and the way she can express her emotions! I had just gotten home from 2 trips to Viet Nam as a merchant seaman.
Wow Joan .... so long into your career and still such passion for it and reaching new peaks to your powers. Hats off. Ever onwards and upwards I salute you

Dire Straits, one of the more left field of the punk rock revolution. First time I saw them was supporting The Damned at The Hope and Anchor, Islington!
Best song about the Falklands
Una voce"paradisiaca" per una musica "dolcissima". Un connubio da SOGNATORI. VERY GOOD.
The intro starts out sounding like the soundtrack for those (HBO) Richard "the Iceman" Kuklinski tapes.
She has a voice that can go on forever! Have been a fan since the 60's. Will be a fan forever. Love you!!!! Joan is one of the greatest. She really cares about those that have been left out.
Thanks for your love and constant supports has brought me this far. Keep Supporting me ❤️❤️❤️

She does t every time. She sings the first note & I just react. I saw her live at The Albert Hall in the 60s & it was like pouring ice cubes down my spine. Same thing now. What a Voice,
What a voice!!. Pure harmony and soul that fill the performance really touch and move!..
Was eine Stimme, was für genialer Song❤💕liebe Grüße, aus Deutschland
So eine wunderschöne Stimme, so ein schönes Lied und so eine miserable Rhythmusgruppe, es ist zum weinen.
You can hear the sadness in her voice. She feels this. So do we. Love you Joan Baez!
We do...
me too
To see Joan Baez is number one on my bucket list. Unfortunately at my age, I better concentrate on number two! She'll always be #1.
She feels this song. So do I
I think Joan could sing the New York City phone book and it would be beautiful
Absolutely fabulous❣❣❣
😂😂😂 you're dead right. She is wonderful.
Are there any phonebooks today? Sad...
Perhaps, but Mark Knopfler is a songwriting god, so...
apart from babe i`m gonna leave you , i love joans voice
My wife and I traveled to Wales from Sicily to see Joan's farewell concert tour a year or so ago. We have loved her from when we first heard her in 1962, and we will always remember our thrill of our first listen. It has never subsided! We go back to our favorites often to love her all over again. Thanks for the songs, Joan.
I'm Scottish, Mark was born in Scotland though brought up in England. This song means so much to me and Joan has the most beautiful voice. Cant stop listening to her.
Cant think of anyone else who could cover this song as well as Joan!

My Lord this is beautiful
It is. A great, artistic rendition of a true musical masterpiece.
THIS IS SOUL IN THIS SONG
Such a clear, crystal cut voice. Beautiful.
La voce più armoniosa , più profonda che tocca le corde più intime dei sentimenti umani , semplicemente straordinaria e unica.
I could have
❤
It takes someone with the talent and conviction of Joan Baez, to work this song so well and this is an absolute masterpiece by Dire Straits but it's also brilliant by Joan. You GO GIRL!!!!!
These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms
Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
Ive watched all your suffering
As the battles raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms
There's so many different worlds
So many different's suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones
Now the suns gone to hell
And the moons riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But its written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
Were fools to make war
On our brothers in arms
I got to see her sing standing by a swimming pool at Eseyan (sp?) institute in Calif 1967. Got close-up pictures as she practiced to herself a few feet away. She and her husband had just gotten out of jail for anti-war protests. What a gift to the world is her voice and the way she can express her emotions! I had just gotten home from 2 trips to Viet Nam as a merchant seaman.
you only can love Joan Baez!!!
Joan Baez ha la capacità di arricchire qualsiasi brano. La sua voce é un autentico miracolo.
Praise God for producing this angelic voice.
Wow Joan
.... so long into your career and still such passion for it and reaching new peaks to your powers. Hats off. Ever onwards and upwards I salute you
We are all blessed by God with people like Joan. Love her like a singer!!!!
