Our local performing arts theater is relatively small and there is no bad seat in the house. Even if you had to get the last row, it would still be pretty close. He puts on a great show as well. Very personable and at his parody concerts, he is very funny. I have been a fan since I was a little kid in the 80's.

And Wierd Al is touring again this year. So neat to rap and create bars on a theme and on someone elses beat - it is great writing - and saw an interview which had clips of him recording the music - he is a really talented musician. One thing to keep in mind with Weird Al, he always asks the original artist for permission to parody their hit. Amish Paradise does slap but initially Coolio was not happy about the song. He later changed his mind. Also please do The Saga Begins (of American Pie) and Yoda (og Lola).

    • @JoeHalcyon
      @JoeHalcyon 2 месяца назад +5

      Yeah the Coolio thing was kind of effed up because Coolio's management group said yes before they even consulted Coolio about it so Al thought they had talked to him and got his blessing.

    • @dragonbretheren
      @dragonbretheren 2 месяца назад +1

      There's also the inverse story where James Blunt agreed to a "You're Beautiful" parody, but the record label shut it down in fear that it would "make James look like a 1-hit wonder".
      Overall though, stories like these are the exceptions, not the rule. And most artists are more than happy to be parodied by WAY.

    • @jaceywarren1528
      @jaceywarren1528 2 месяца назад +3

      @@dragonbretheren agreed. Kurt Cobain said when Al parodied Smells Like Teen Spirit with Smells Like Nirvana to him it was a sign they had "made it." The Coolio thing is the only time I remember anything negative once a song was released. Yeah, there were several times Al got turned down before even recording a track but this was the only time in my memory of backlash post-production.

    • @dragonbretheren
      @dragonbretheren 2 месяца назад +2

      @@jaceywarren1528 Yeah, as I said - the Coolio and James Blunt cases were the only 2 times (AFAIK) in Weird Al's nearly 5 decade long career where someone involved accepted the parody initially and someone else involved later rescinded the approval after Al had already finished the song.
      Al politely removed "You're Pitiful" from his Straight Outta Lynwood album, but proceeded to:
      1. Include free download links to the .mp3 file on his website. This was _technically_ abiding by Atlantic's request to not include it on the album and not distribute for profit.
      2. Including the reference in the White & Nerdy music video, wherein he edits the Wikipedia page for Atlantic Records (who were the ones who denied the James Blunt parody after Al had already gotten James' permission and finished the recording) to read "YOU SUCK"
      3. He performed it in most of his following concerts as a "bonus song" (that was _technically_ not on the setlist *wink wink nudge nudge*). In the performance (at least for the first couple of years), he removes stacked layers of clothing. At one point, he has a t-shirt that reads "ATLANTIC RECORDS SUCKS!"
      All things considered, I think Al handled Atlantic Records denying his parody perfectly rationally like any sane person would. 🤣

    White and Nerdy got to be so big that the guy who did riding dirty was doing an interview and was asked if he parodied Weird Al's song.

    "Amish Paradise" is great. So is "Fat" (parody of MJ's "Bad"), "Eat It" (MJ's "Beat It"), "Another One Rides The Bus" (Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust"), "Tacky" (Pharell's "Happy") and "Smells Like Nirvana" (Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit").

    Weird Al has been around so long that he has outlived artists that he had parodied in the 80's & 90's ... Michael Jackson ('Eat it' ... 'Fat') ... James Brown ('Living with a hernia') ... The Knack ('My Bologna') ... Coolio ('Amish paradise') ... Nirvana ('Smells like Nirvana') ...

    Love Weird Al! Back in the '80s there was a movie (and sequel) called Revenge of the Nerds. They sort of predicted things back then...

    You heard everyone, check out Amish Paradise next. And also look up his Michael Jackson parodies.
    Needless to say, Al has established himself as a parody music legend. Spanning the last few decades, even an original movie: UHF

    Sure check out some more. What’s impressive is he got to the point artists liked having him do spoofs of their songs because it was almost a way to know they’d truly made it.

    You 2 are WAY behind! Weird Al has been making music since the early 1980's and has a #1 song in EVERY decade. An amazing artist who always asks permission before making a parody.

    "They had VHS tapes!" - That particular VHS tape was _extremely_ hard to find and expensive on the collectors market. It's the "Star Wars Holiday Special" which was show once and only once on television. It's rumored that George Lucas destroyed the originals after it aired back in the day. So someone who happened to have taped it when it aired back in the day would dupe it and sell it for hundreds of dollars to collectors. You can find it online now if you look hard enough. It's awful. Totally worth a watch.

    It's (yang- ka-vik). He is a genius graduated high school at 16 as the valedictorian. went to architecture in college started playing the accordion at seven, so he really was White and Nerdy! He has been doing this he was 16 sending in tapes of himself to the Dr. Dimento Show. Got his record deal in late '79 and has been doing this ever since. 14 studio albums, 2018 got a star on "The Walk of Fame", on the Simpsons twice, 5 Grammys !7 nominations. The stars seem to love him too. That was Donny Osmond dancing like a nerd in the background. He does his songs right, he doesn't publish a parody without permission. You have to pay attension to the videos because he has big stars show up in his videos. MJ loved his parodies "Eat It" and "Bad" he even help al get sets to match the ones Michael used for his videos. Madonna asked him to do a parody of "Like A Virgin".
