No not just that, he said he was afraid his decision/leadership will bring loss to the team & himself. When he became centre, his team failed. When he teached the dance to his team 'Fire', he didn't get chosen. When he became the representative of the team, his team also lost. That's what he said why he was refused to become leader.

It saddens me a lot, this kid has been a hardworker since the first episode and yet his efforts seem fruitless so far. It’s understandable if he gets traumatic and scared by this, that’s why the fact he still choose to stand up and try his best despite his fear is really admirable. NIKI YOU DESERVE TO DEBUT!!!

For me it's normal if you want to be noticed. It's I survival show what do you expect. You have to think for your self if you want to debut. I'm proud of niki because he is not like that. I cried when I saw Niki's emotional struggles.
Because at “FIRE”, he took his time to teach everyone, and the whole team and Niki himself had a great performance, but He still couldn't get to i_land.
I'm sure that's because if the show took Niki to i_land, the dance battles and the show wouldn't be as exciting as it should be.
But I'm sure they(producers and the show)didn't tell Niki the reason for that, so
he wonder if what he've been doing was wrong.It's natural to think that.
That's why Niki wondered if shouldn't be the leader on the next assignment song.
Still, I was impressed with Niki's decision to stand up and lead the grounders one more time and do his best.

きっとそれは、番組側がニキをi_landに連れて行くとダンスバトルが成立しないし、番組がおもしろくなくなるからそうしたわけで。
でも、その理由を本人には伝えていないはずなので、自分のやり方やがんばりが間違っていたのか？と思ってしまうのは当然。
だから、次の課題曲でリーダーをやらない方がいいのではないかと、悩んだんだよね。
それでももう一回、立ち上がってグラウンダーを率いてがんばると決めたニキの姿を見て、感動しました。

この時まで自分がダンスリーダーしてNI-KIが一番上手く出来てるのに上れずに（運営さんとしては教えられるのNI-KIだけだから上にあげられなかったとしても本人には上がれなかったことしかわからない）グラウンドに残って、自分が教えること自体正しいのか、教えてあげたライバルだけが上がって行くのを呆然と見るしか出来なかったと思う。
そこからダンスを見るなら自分しか出来ないって覚悟決めてあんな一人一人見て自分の振りじゃないところも完璧にして、大人でも正直やれないことだと思う。
NI-KIにしか出来ないよ、本当に人間として素晴らしい。大好きだし、応援するよ❤️

ikr. they always put his sour expressions when another trainee shines in the scene. he doesn’t have the chance to defend himself from evil editings because he is not that bubbly, the one who approaches first type. he is self reserved and quiet and mnet made it look like he got some attitude.

He’s been a hardworking kid since the first episode, he learned the choreo quickly, helped others learn, evaluate and gave feedbacks on their performances. Now he even leveled up to give one on one feedbacks. Doing the leader role too when he’s actually the second youngest participant, he already got a lot of things on his hands, sacrificing his own practice time to taught others and helped them master it. being in the ground actually was good for niki, he needed to be grounded, change his attitude and his perspective. and people will love him because of this. he is indeed talented but had some personal issues to settle with during the first few episodes, but now, i think he is maturing, he is friendlier and became more team player.

I know you received so much hate from the past episodes but I know you are just doing what you think was right. Keep learning from your mistake baby. You are just 14 yrs old and will be better as time goes by. You're not perfect but in every mistake you make, I saw you are learning and adjusting. That's the true spirit of an idol!!
In every test so far, Niki has learned the choreography first and taught it to everyone else, even he reduced his own practice time. I think that's why they could perform “Fire” with a sense of unity. Mnet didn't air it, but it's been recorded on Cam videos which not many people watched.
I believe that's why they wanted to rely on Niki at first, this time as well. But his hard work has not paid off yet, and moreover he was wondering if what he had done was wrong because Grounder lost this time, so he wanted to focus on his own practice this time.
But in the end, he decided to teach everyone again!

I've never hated Niki for anything I've seen so far. I'd rather want his personality, straightforward, honest and gutsy rather than being wishy washy. He knows what he knows. You see people got so used to a goodsy goodsy kind of impression and that doesn't always show that person is truly geniune. I think Ni-Ki hit the bottom during GROUND. He was really burnt out. The burden of being a leader was too heavy for a 14 years old boy. Despite so he still tried his best. And finally he got to debut.
