I think the point of seasonal characters is to give the player base more, not punishment. Games like Diablo use seasons to experiment with gameplay concepts they aren’t willing commit to permanently. If it works, for Division 2, it will make for a more exciting season with a short term grind to level up, followed by weeks of new variations of builds.
For instance, what if we could use exotic kneepads that unlock the use of multiple exotics? That would break the game, but you can do things like that in seasons. Seasons in Division 2 are boring atm, so this could be a great addition.

I am not going to take credit for this but I saw someone say that it should be optional, and I think thats a good idea. Let people make the choice if they want to use their main characters or if they want to start new for the season. Yes most people are just going to stick with their main characters, but lets be honest, even less people will be willing to even try the seasonal characters if its forced for the seasonal progression, people just don't like being forced to do things a certain way when they shouldn't have to.

It's all about the shareholders and their biggest metric is minutes played. They'll get a lot more minutes out of you if you have to grind a new character to 40 every season in order to finish the story. It's dirty AF and it's just another way to artificially inflate how much time people are spending in game. It will take you much longer to complete with a new character than if you're completing seasonal content with leveled character with a solid build. Its not a new tactic but it definitely is a dirty one. It's just more proof that these game companies care far more about the shareholders than the people who keep them employed.

    • @da_astra
      @da_astra 13 дней назад +3

@@steveeymann6374 Even so, there's a certain point where they have to realize that it's not worth killing the game in a crappy attempt to get more playtime. They actually will lose playtime and a shit ton of it if they go through with this change. They will also lose alot of money because on top of all the players that will outright quit, there's people like me who this change probably won't be enough to quit the game but will no longer be buying the premium pass or any other micro transactions.

The devs are stupid if they think people can’t see this is a Diablo season copy paste. I think this is a way that they think it will be “fun” to re-collect everything we have had and that’s shit plain and simple. I haven’t played this many years grinding resources which is the bottleneck of the game to need to do it again. This all amounts to them trying to stretch out the game till the dlc and div3 because they are out of ideas. This is very apparent with the crappiest items being introduced this season and some from the last seasons. Just like the movie industry nowadays creativity is bad and they are just rehashing ideas from other games and can’t come up with their own. I’m not hopeful for the dlc and div3.

Starting with a new character so that they can then tailor the season on advancing new characters makes it sound to me like they’re going to be continuing the current thing where updates are focused on specific items or weapon types in the game, in order to encourage more people to use certain weapon types, skills, or gear.
It’s ok as it is, because as it is, you can just ignore all of that if you don’t care for whatever the current focus is on. It’s not ok if they think they can force us to use a new character in order to just play thru the season.
Descent was Massive’s answer when they asked themselves how they could make The Summit even more boring. Basing entire season around a similar idea seems like a big fail to me.

I agree on giving it a try but doing and saying nothing about the downsides to get it changed before it's too late will do irreparable damage to the game. Make it optional so these content creators that say "i need something new to grind for" can fuck off and do that and the actual community gets what it wants.

The addition of seasonal characters seems to be a cheap way to address years of poorly addressed power creep without having to spend additional resources on creating a more challenging player experience for those of us who have taken the time to learn the systems and optimise our gear and play style.
There are many approaches that could be taken with addressing these issues and they have chosen one that they are hoping will result in increased profits for the company. the players attention and money are the goal NOT our satisfaction, they will spend as little time and money as possible to get us to stick around thus the cheap option.
They could introduce additional enemy types, greater open world difficulty, additional missions in the current map, greater seasonal diversity with objectives or even just increase the enemy spawn rates and have multiple spawns active at once to avoid the spawn camping as we see in this video. These options may not generate the revenue increase they desire so they won’t do it.

1.This wont even work cause we dont even have enough character slots for this to happen. Diablo has 12 character slots and div2 has 4 character slots.

Second, playing Seasons in games like Diablo, as in ARPGs, is different, because those games are just devoted to map-clearing, I don't have to replay missions that I've done ad nauseam literally for years. I can start a new Season in Diablo or Path of Exile & try out a new build, or even get my new farming build back in a scant few play sessions, I'm not losing my tweaked min-maxed builds, & the Devs in those games aren't using Seasons as a substitute for content, which seems to be the place here.

I'm predominantly a solo player, been playing for years, around 3000 hours and money invested.
I want to play with MY CHARACTER!
    I detest Descent.
    I detest seasonal characters.
It will be a deal breaker for me, and I will feel I've wasted 5 years.
I would also never buy another Ubisoft game, and I've bought hundreds from them over the decades!
(I know they wouldn't care less tho lol).
It does feel like a punishment. Especially for us long time, and solo players.
It's Ubisoft trying to do a cash grab, trying to entice low engagement, low attention, transient and fair weather players, who are willing to pay to progress.
It will work for them in the short term, but will be a massive mistake in the long term and be the death knell for The Division.

All these so-called division, Content creators treating their subscribers like morons is pretty funny at this point.
Telling us that we just don’t get what the developers are saying or actually doing . We are all on the same page of how stupid this is. There’s absolutely nothing they wanna do that. We can’t do with their main characters. If there’s no room and they can’t give us more stash or inventory space then how is all this gear on our seasonal character going to go on our main characters ?
They could’ve just gave us survival 2.0.
Contant creators saying this is just like Diablo and other games meanwhile, they don’t have any videos of them playing the games they’re talking about .
It’s almost like they’re reading from a script because they repeat the same talking points .
They actually have the balls to say we’re not being forced to play the new character but if you want the new content, you have to play the seasonal character. Anyone else getting Covid lockdowns jab flashbacks.
They’re giving the way the game at this point with what the prices are but the people who actually paid for New York grind for all the new skills are getting F’ed because new players will already have them unlocked.

This is such a hilarious way to end your rant because it proves you don't understand how seasonal characters have worked in the myriad games that use them. Seasonal characters generally have a separate stash and inventory from your non-seasonal characters. The whole point of them is the contained eco system to experiment with new systems.

@@barooboodoo according to other division creators that talked to devs they were not be a separate stash. All characters will share the stash you can swap gear back-and-forth to other ( at 40 ) characters from the devs own words. The seasonal character will be locked to a certain point in inventory then, after this season over you all share the original stash. So clearly you’re the only one that doesn’t understand.

Lemme add my 2 cents here. Seasonal Characters are not new in concept (as already stated), and for some genres of games they have been proven to work, but mostly only in the sense that the community already knows, for the most part, what they are getting into, and I specifically mean ARPGs (Such as the Diablo franchise, Path of Exile etc.).
However it's important to understand what a new season actually brings to the table in that genre, and for that the making of a new charecter is what makes sense, it let's you experience the season mechanic from the ground up, but in here lies the problem, it's not just "some modifiers" it's an actually, generally speaking, complex new system, or many for that matter, that significantly change and/or enhence the game experince as a whole, maybe new bosses, or areas, or enemy types and so one, and for the gear balances and mostly importantly functional and usable new gear.
These dudes can't make more then a set for season, they can't fix the shit that the community been screaming about for years, they can't be facking honest with us with anything and lack the capacity for clear communication even when they attempt it (or do they?), and you think I believe they can make a seasonal system interesting enough to make me play this sad excuse of a looter shooter all over again, every season? Yeah right, I'd love to see you pull that off, and I don't even mean that sarcasticly.
I been defending this game for years, I bought many copies for my friends to play with me, and to be honest I had fun, but this looks bleak as shit man, I ain't seeing no light at the end of this tunnel, and we been here a while.

  • @Independent-Revolutionary

Well to be honest if it's already a done deal then i suspect a large portion of the playerbase will reply with yep it's a done deal i'm out and goodbye.
Me personally i haven't played for quite a while (got bored of the Manhunt system and seasons) but i also wanted a reason ERGO new content and new Story to entice me back, with my character, but if i cannot progress my character within the new story/lore/content then there is no point coming back.
PS: One big question/issue the devs left with no details.
The New DLC coming that continues the story (Can we play that with our original/main character? or is that going to be a new character start?) if it's a new character start that might be the breaking of the entire playerbase thats left.

This game got me through covid. I love the division 2 and I feel like I am my character in some fictional world. I love to help people get exotics in the raid and incursion. I know what it is like being a solo player with no team. I actually care about the decision to implement seasonal characters because I have spent five years (9500 hours, 18,700 SHD) making my character what he is today. I was here during the two years that there was no new content at all. I was here for heartbreakers being op, and I was here when they nerfed it. I was here when strikers was bad and I am here now that it’s powerful. I was here when countdown dropped and I was here for descent as well. I have always supported this game and the player base. I always buy apparel from the store to support this game and the developers because I want them to make more for this game. But If I can’t play this game with my main character, i don’t want to play at all. I have every collectible, comm, video, and descent comm, except for the new 20 they added to descent. If I can’t use my main, I will just leave the division 2 and put my hard earned money into something else. They already made my 30 dollars warlords purchase irrelevant. Please hear us Ubisoft and stop screwing your diehard division agents!

I generally wait till one of the NMS content creators posts a speed run to follow so I can get back to playing my main. lol I feel like a lot of the community feels the same way and to Hello Game's credit they've tried to address this sentiment to some degree (though rather poorly IMO) by allowing your main to store items in a locker to be used during the Expo and have the "new" expo character look like your main. I'm genuinely not trying to sound facetious, but I chuckled as I wrote that last bit, it's just silly to me. If this is the route Ubisoft takes with the Division, I likely won't continue playing. I'm not intending to sound all dramatic, but I just want to play my main though the story as it unfolds because that's what I enjoy. Cheers!

Been thinking about this the last few days. Seasonal characters are only viable
    - IF they give us at least 2 extra characters that you can use in season.
    - AND IF the seasonal characters automatically turn into "normal" (fifth and sixth) characters with complete transfer at the end of the season.
After that it's up to you if you want to start anew every season from scratch or just keep 5 and 6 as mules.
It's just like Diablo 3. Played Diablo for 10+ years but was never a fan of seasons as it gets boring starting all over every 3 months.

    • @grumpyoldman6503

i think it's going to work like a 5th hardcore slot would now. In fact, I wouldn't be shocked if it's the same hard core code leveraged to enable seasons 2.0- that's the right kind of lazy that gets baked in up-front for a new feature. Recycling to reduce the timeline (but also stuck with the limations of past work).
So to me, it seems logical you won't be able to group or interact with the siloed off seasonal characters (again, just like Diablo), which has the 'benefit' of further rendering your main character irrelevant for 99% of the game (maybe a mastery mission for the 'intermission' period however long that might be). It will be dead in the eternal realm, so I hope you like soloing with last seasons' ''content' forever if you opt out. Yay.

That's a looooong comment of mine on another video, but pictures the big issues TD2 is facing right now and why Seasons 2.0 is a shoot in their heads.
A few points of my own opinion as a player that just reached the 2k-hour playing time mark and SHD 8.5k - worth reading, I promisse LOL:
    - They simply ignore their own content instead of giving them replayability. I don't know any player that is currently playing Raids, Kenly college or Summit, to name a few. These are great content, but no one wants to play those
    - I would easily trade new builds for something like character talents, like Descent, or even a tree to build up some specialization. This alone would add 1k hour more of playing content easily. This would also reduce the existence of meta builds and weapons
    - The Division is an RPG-ish shooter game. Which means you grind your way up to achieve better stuff and become stronger. This being said, seasonal characters simply ditch ALL of the current content created for the game.
    - The Division Heartland was THE game that could easily adapt to a seasonal content seen that it was supposed to be an extraction shooter
    - Vets are making mules since Earth was created to just to acquire ressources and even to have more "fake stash space". Why TF they didn't use this to make new content to grind and replayability without the need to make mules?
    - Again, why not update the CURRENT content and make them useful and replayable? Another exemple goes to helping new players or answering backup calls. Are we just doing it to have some nice wings icon with a number? Give us a reason to actually do it and enjoy it.
    - Blaming content creators, it's like being a spoiled child crying for nothing. The blame here is to Ubisoft and Ubisoft alone, not any other ppl.
    - TD doesn't have an official place where you can discuss opinions and give feedbacks, so Ubisoft can simply pretend they're doing stuff because they, somehow on a crystal ball, are hearing the community
I could keep it going for ever and ever, but it's all to say that Ubisoft has simply threw the game out of the window long ago. They don't really care or invest too much on this game. You can purchase the game for $10 not without a reason. No man's sky, for exemple, is out there for 8 years. It's still being sold for a fair price simply because it releases massive amount of content constantly. This gives them the money they need to keep investing in the game, and players, both vets and new, have a blast playing it. That's also a good exemple of a game that came from sh*t to something awesome.

  • @juanhandal182
    @juanhandal182 12 дней назад +1

Massive was doing everything ok until this dropped. They should play Phantasy Star Online and take their example. What they did for new players is that they could experience the full story with 300% Xp multiplier until they got to max lvl. When you reach max lvl, they gift you a set of maxed weapons and armor for you to tackle endgame.
What it took 4-5 months to build, you can do it in 1 or 2 weeks if you're diligent.
This way you don't alienate veterans and attract newcomers.
Last thing, if you think about it, removing difficulties and doing seasonal characters is them being lazy to avoid rebalancing (waste of resources in their language).
If that truly happens and can't progress with my character during seasons, I'll just play for the story's sake and drop the game until the next season. Newcomers might feel the same.

I’m thinking that we do not have the correct understanding about seasonal characters. First, let’s remember the “why.” They say that they innovations the devs want to add break the game. Ok, they want a new seasonal character. But if they drop it into the same world as our main, the game still would break. This means that the seasonal character would have to only play in an isolated section of the game. Basically, a short duration content game running on the same engine, but with different elements, like maps, enemies, weapons, armor, talents, skills, everything. This new agent would be working to provide intel to our main character as they progress. That will allow the main character to do the final mission in the main game world. At the end of the season, we can “import” our seasonal character to the main game world, updating it with the main game world elements.
This is the only way to be able to not break the game. I believe this is how this will work, but we need the Devs to clarify, as even this is my speculation.

I don't buy the 'balance' argument when they keep adding expertise and put all the long-term grinds and rebalance updates that got us here in the first place that they now want us to walk away from for no explicilty stated reason.
so that leaves us reading the tea leaves as they haven't expounded on the 'why are you doing this?' beyond some marketing pablum.
The most obvious interpretation is to increase the time you spend doing the same thing over and over again, which in turn is correlated with more money spent on MTX. So it's a way to farm noobs or people that dont mind starting over every 4months to experience 'new content'.
Anyone with a lot of investment with the end game up until this point, and all its attendent long-term grinds, is right to be pissed off at this pivot- it fundamentally disrespects the time investment of vets that have supported this game past season8 when they were ready to walk away forever.

What if instead of using the seasonal character for the whole season they integrate them,
Like have the seasonal character go and ‘scout’ out the area/mission first
Then you use your Main to complete the actual mission.
The better you scout the more info you have, that adds an additional layer to the story and meaningful game play - rather than abandoning your main.

The only reason they're switching it to this new model is because they're likely to use the same model in TD3. This is nothing more than a test. Kinda sad that they're doing it this late. Would've been fine at launch. Lot of ARPG's use this same model for seasons. You have to create a character each season in games like Diablo 4, Path of Exile, Last Epoch, etc to experience the seasonal aspects. Then you have all of your seasonal characters bumped to what's called an "Eternal Realm" or Standard Realm. This late into the game's life span, they should give you the option.

    2.0 drops
    *In game mission alert*
"Agent, we need you to go undercover for us. A fresh ID." "Are you willing?"
"Yes" ( Character progression is adjusted to the new seasons requirements. In this case, whatever the seasonal characters would start with)
(If Devs are cool, give a backpack trinket or something small to show you prestiged your main for that season.)
Everyone who invested thousands of hours is happy and you can just let the new/less attached players make new characters for each season.
Not sure why some sort of this isn't the standard for all seasonal games.

I think what's happening is Ubisoft is pressuring them to find a way to bring new players to the game so that they spend money on the game. Ubisoft is making much off of the six year players who have already spent what they're going to spend and are just playing the game for the grind, etc.

I would rather play HEARTLAND than the seasonal character. I am a Hardcore Mode only player... how would the seasonal character impact me and can it be a Hardcore one? Great vide BTW.

The division 2 is now free to play this could be reason as to why they are doing the whole seasonal characters

I'm not opposed to Seasonal characters. Narratively it's not going to make sense. My character has destroyed Razorback at the Airport, killed the True Sons commander at the Iron Works. But SHD 5000. 15 min/maxxed builds. 25 Expertise. I log in once every 2-3 weeks for Manhunt targets and I'm done. I have 0 faith in Massive being able to pull this off. The community is never happy. "Seasons are boring" well here's a change. "No not like that"

Thank you!! It seems like most of the top Div2 streamers are going along the lines of “it sounds like fun and I like it but we dont have enough info” while their fans basically point out the issues. You are one of the first CCs that actually seems to be highlighting the issues and siding (at least partially) with the “outrage” side.

And yeah as another solo player, I dont like that the only new content added for current/main characters is basically just “a higher difficult then heroic” that basically requires a well-oiled team”.

They are going to kill the fanbase and then no one will get Div3 cause they no longer trust the devs.

I love seasons but I come from arpg games and dont even think about my 'non season' characters. As much as I love my seasonal character, after the season is over i'll never touch it again, I'm in the new season. I don't know how that's going to sit with a game like Division. I think for new people like myself it will be great, but for long time players that are 100% invested into their 1 character it will kinda suck.
Edit: It seems to me like this is something they should have waited to do from the start of the Division 3.

Here is what I know, I miss Morton. Better at communicating, better at listening. I don’t agree with seasonal characters ruining the game or experience. However, I agree with the comments specific to the devs. Start listening.

The best part of this game for me was leveling up getting stronger understanding the bills that is this game I've been playing it since it came out and I'm telling you that is what I thrive for to go from Level nothing all the way up to level 40 scaling that's what I like I have replayed the game a few times because I like it so much I'm not going to lie that's what makes or breaks a game for me the feeling you get getting stronger on your own unique bills and unique gear I just hope they spit out some unique gear and weapons for this seasonal character but I think this is a great idea

Locking the new content with the seasonal character is to force vets to play a SC, if they want the new content. The problem is ppl who play live service games, mostly play because all they have is their built character and load-outs, other than that we have Battle Royal, which gives no subtenants, like a (stash box.)
