- There are birches everywhere in Umeå. EVERYWHERE! Not only along the streets but also in art, salads and drinks. Originally they were planted to prevent fires but the city's love for the black and white tree trunks knows no end. However, they might not be as loved by the residents suffering from pollen allergy...

Been traveling for sixty years and Swedes are by far the nicest people I've ever met.
Zach Elmquist I have been living for working reasons in sweden for almost 2 years. Swedish people are the most cold and awkward """happy""" people I have ever met. Half of them live alone. Check out "The Swedish theory of love" and you will now what I'm talking about
We can be nice, comparing to other countries like Finland, or Japan. But we are.. well. Pretty awekward and loonely. We complain about being lonely but we dont do anything about it. For example, if entering a bus, you pick the seat that is as far away as possibly from any other person. And stuff like that.
But if someone actually talks to us we are often nice, friendly and answer more than happily.
But yeah, if you sit down beside us on the bus we think of you as a creep and just gets uncomfortable.
Welcome to sweden! The people living on the countryside is often nicer than the citypeople.
Your surname is Swedish!
Birch trees, birch salad, birch tea, birch syrup, birch paper, birch bags, birch soup, birch water, birch schnapps, birch champagne, birch mushrooms, birch bark, birch houses, birch birds, birch stew, birch garden, birch art, birch chairs, birch tables, birch baskets, birch plates, birch glue, birch soap, birch medicine, i think thats about it.
“Bubba’s mamma cooked birch”
Det här var första gången på länge som jag sett riktig Svensk kultur.
Nice, now I wanna try Birch salad
BIRCH, please. Leafe.
How offensive of you, that may be Treegering
0:33 When you spawn at birch biome in minecraft
(2:22) - It must take a very long time to water thousands of birch trees with that little watering can.
haha! I'm guessing it's just leftover water from the teakettle.
thanrose - The birch ‘tea’ or the fungus ‘tea’ ? 😉
Omg I wish they did water them but, no they don't. (I live there..... 😅)
Alex Holmgren - Don’t light any bonfires or the trees might burn the city down!
@@Nhoj31neirbo47 we do that every year and nothing happens. We literally make a big ass bonfire and stand around and sing and shit. You can Google it "maj brasa umeå". But that happens everywhere in Sweden but if you what to see ours.....

Reddytheteddy Reddytheteddy ahahahah...... no
that's what a birch eater would say!
Hehehehhahahhahahah 👍👏 You can try it while u can
I miss riding the buss (Lokaltrafiken) in Umeå, especially in winter when residents brighten their windows with electric candelabra and hanging lamps that shine warm light on a cold blue night -- which means 15:00 to 10:00 the next morning!
Talking about city fires there's a city in Sweden named Sundsvall that burned town in 1888 and they rebuilt almost the entire city in stone instead!
Ok good, I can now survive from birch only.
Lovely city I'm here now and plan on moving from the UK
Such beauty 😍
1:00 pewdiepies side job
We got a lot of these trees in Virginia...they make me sneeze.
Yeah, Birch!
“Sixty degrees that come in threes, watches from within birch trees”

Still a really good show of culture, love it ^.^
I love birch water
Hey can you do episode on Boise, Idaho
Son of a Birch*, who knew that Birch trees were so versatile? I sure didn't.
*I regret nothing.
I wanna visit here!!!
Are birches edible? For daily basis?
They sort of are, to be safe, I wouldnt eat them all day every day. Young leaves are good, old ones not so much. You can drink the sap, it's really yammy 😋
s muot swedish people are so lucky, if someone drink a sap from a random tree in my nation, everyone got sick
They can be utilized in some fashion year round, but they won't stave off starvation for humans. Sort of minty sharp resinous flavor that is reminiscent of medicine. Don't know what the young green leaves taste like, but I've had birch beer, birch soda, birch gum occasionally, and birch sap as a decent clean water supply in late winter. You can eat the cambium, and I'd bet you could eat the very early catkins, but I haven't tried them. I don't recall any health warnings with them.
ediable yes, but no one eats them regularly, lives here up in northen Sweden and I haver never heard anyone eaten them regurarly
Rodigo, Where are you, equatorial South America? While it's not guaranteed, spring running sap from trees in temperate zones is potable. Differing in taste, but usually very watery and clean of pollutants. Tropical plants and desert plants are not as dependable. For one, they don't have the obvious spring surge in growth as cooler season trees, and they often evolved more toxic or unpleasant chemistries.
I am born in Umeå
What the birch.

No wonder why Notch added bjrch tree in Minecraft
Why should be pines "a more natural choice" to plant in sweden? The birch is a wonderful adapted tree for cold climates, i think i heard it was even the dominant species in scandinavia before conifers took over.
You'll see when you spend a winter at these latitudes. If it wasn't for pine trees, everything would look even more miserable. Birches are nice only when they have leaves.
@@VideoDotGoogleDotCom as it is for every place which has decent winters. But i was concerned about the choice of words "natural", not wanting to discuss wether it's better to have something green in a 4 hours day winter or not.
Btw i think the birch tops pines at the rest of the year by miles ;)
I interpreted "natural" as something that would be the most sensible or common choice, not literally as in "how nature would have arranged it". Anyways, I like birches, too :)
In my city in Russia we are also fuuuuuuuullllllllll of birch.
What's that music?
Cool
It's hell for someone allergic to birch pollen like me :p
What if they were destroyed? hEy vSAucE MicHaEl ERe
