We're building a biomass pellet plant fueling a steam engine that generates electricity and the waste heat will heat greenhouses. We plan to use excess energy to compress air into huge tanks for energy storage and cold air that can be used in the summer.

Thank you , we learn a lot with you. Let see the performance with top discharge. I m wondering what will happen if we replace wood pallet cone with oil dropping system. All the best.

i have a leaf blower of 3200 w, i use it on 2 batteries 12v each and inverter, and a battery charger for them, in this way is cheap, imagine how much temp you can get on bigger blower.

Be sure to use the venturi air feed if you use a jacketed hear regenerator of course, cant't suck too much heat through your blower, even if its clean air, will cause overhear issues with your motor. ~( 'w')/

You got your kw/hp formula backward I believe... I hp = 745.7 watts, or 0.7457 kilowatts.
That means that 134.47 kw = 192.396439 hp

dammit your rite , i usually divide kilowatts by 745 to get hp , not sure what happened there but thanks that would of givin us 180 hp , maybe i didnt hit the key hard enough .

@@NOBOX7 Some times I get numbers mixed up in my mind too, so I'm used to it.
By the way, one method of getting more air flow without spitting your fuel, would be to put conchoidal spiral made of strips of steel up the side walls of the burner which act like inside-out cyclone dust collectors, which force the heavier mass to the outside, but into crevasses which hold them form moving freely so that they burn up before they get to the top. To enhance them even more, drill tiny little relief holes in them so that pieces are more likely to get stuck in them as they burn and therefore less likely to fly out the top, as well as the relief holes allow more air to pass all around them, allowing more accelerated combustion.
It would be tricky to draw this in 3D, I'm not sure I can pull it off with pencil and paper.
I downloaded a 'free' cad program, but 1, have not tried to install it, and 2, therefore, I do not know if it will permit me to publish in any commonly recognized format such as PDF which I might be able to share with you.
The point is, all told, a proper trapping spiral will slow down the burning embers significantly, even at higher velocities and pressures, allowing you to greatly enhance your efficiency and total power output per volume of machinery, especially if your client happens to have a space limitation.
I am actually borrowing from one of my own secret engine designs for this I am sharing with you, so in the end, either way, ultimately I will be building one for the express purpose of an external combustion style heat engine.

Bury the burner in pearlite for insulation and direct the heat upward to a boiler, run the exhaust to preheat water before going to the boiler.

how to make on for 30 kw?

    • @frankhepler630

You will need to burn appoximately 6.1 kg of wood pellets over 1 hour for 30 kWh, based on his calculations.
