I love the concept of the Bride and how her backstory remixes a lot of the tragedy for the Frankenstein character. Victor takes it a step beyond just creating sentient life and essentially falls in love with his own creation, imposing his will on a being with barely developed autonomy to the point where it's basically r*pe, but Eric is likewise not clean-cut or morally straight despite murdering Victor for the ordeal, because he basically becomes a centuries-long stalker. These are the kinds of character dynamics and dysfunctional pairings that Gunn's always excelled at and I'm very interested in how he applies that to the rest of the members, especially Doctor Phosphorus and Nina Mazursky, who are also standout characters here.
@@redbigun It's a very specific trope of stories about creation and specifically men playing god so you see it in a lot of such media. Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is essentially the godfather of that kind of plot but yes you see it in a lot of other things like Pinnochio, A Cyborg Manifesto, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, I Robot, Cloud Atlas, Poor Things, even stuff like Hank Pym creating Ultron, who in turn creates Vision, who in turn creates a whole family of Visions, with each person imposing their will on their creations. It's a very popular narrative premise that has been iterated on for ages and actually kind of goes back to Renaissance-era poetry in concept because of stuff like Sidney's Defense of Poesy, which makes arguments about men having the capacity to create as nature creates if they free themselves from Earth's limitations

Hello, everyone. This is a great channel by the way. Here's what i think of Creature Commandos Ep. 1 & 2 - The DCU has officially started with Creature Commandos. Amanda Waller was told by the U.S. Government she can no longer use Humans for Task Force X...aka Suicide Squad. She puts together TasK Force M (M for Monsters) aka Creature Commandos. From the very first episode we're introduced to a bunch of characters - The Bride, G. I. Robot, Weasel, Dr. Phosphorus, Nina Mazursky and Rick Flag Sr. They are tasked with something specific by Amanda Waller. 99% of humans who are talking about this show, will talk about this show haven't read a Creature Commandos comic...ignore what they have to say. James Gunn did his thing, it's definitely Creature Commandos, with a pinch of Suicide Squad. My favorite characters so far are - G.I. Robot and The Bride. Lots of bizarre characters, and intresting music choices that sends you on a journey in the new DC Universe. I'm glad to say, the DCU is off to a good start. 9/10 TERRANCE OUT
He could still be a batman villain, you can make it so he dips the moment he sees an opportunity like in episode 1, then he runs to Gotham because thinks he is safe there, then gets jumped by batman and the whole bat family
Here are my predictions for who lives and dies: Rick Flag Sr. - DEFINITELY LIVES. He's already been confirmed to make appearances in Superman and Peacemaker S2, so it's obvious he's not going to die. The Bride - PROBABLY LIVES. Gunn confirmed that several of the actors in Creature Commandos will reprise their roles in live action, and The Bride is played by Indira Varma, so she's probably safe. It's also plausible that Varma's casting could be a way to misdirect viewers so they don't expect The Bride to die. Doctor Phosphorus - PROBABLY DIES. He's (at best) a C-list Batman villain, so I don't see him surviving till the end. Phosphorus also tried to steal the tablet from Flag, so he's also the least trustworthy of the group. Maybe he'll make it through this series alive, but I'm not counting on it. G.I. Robot - 50/50. He seems to be one of the more reliable members of the Commandos and is a walking killing machine, but he's also a relic from WWII. He was created to kill Nazis, but after the war ended he lost his purpose, so he'll either go out in a blaze of glory or live to continue killing bad guys for his government. Weasel - PROBABLY LIVES. He's expendable cannon fodder, but Gunn has implied that Weasel was actually framed for the children's murders. That gives me reason to believe that he'll survive the series and have the chance to prove his innocence. Or maybe he'll just be killed and forgotten about. Nina Mazursky - PROBABLY LIVES. She's the nicest and most reasonable member of the Commandos, so she's likely to survive the series. That being said, it's also possible that Gunn is setting her up for a very sad and emotional death. Eric Frankenstein - 50/50. Hard to say at this point. He's not a main member of the Creature Commandos yet, but it looks like he'll be a wild card reluctant ally to them in the near future. Eric's a hero in the comics, but this version seems to be a lot more emotionally stunted and is utterly despised by The Bride. He's also played by David Harbour, so there's a chance Harbour could play him in live action in the future, but Eric's design in the show doesn't look like it's made for live action the same way The Bride's design is. It would take A LOT of CGI and/or prosthetics to transition this Eric Frankenstein to live action. This makes me believe that Eric will die in the series, possibly in a heroic sacrifice to try and redeem himself to The Bride. There's still a chance that Eric won't die, and then maybe he'll become a hero and a Creature Commando full time. Circe - 50/50. She's the main antagonist of the show so far, but I'm not sure if she's going to die. Circe is one of Wonder Woman's biggest enemies and I feel like it would be a waste to kill her off before she's even faced this franchise's Wonder Woman. She's also played by Anya Chalotra, who's an actress mainly known for television and theater, so she can definitely play Circe in live action for that Paradise Lost prequel series or a Wonder Woman movie. Princess Ilana - PROBABLY DIES. There's something off about her. I think there's a deeper reason for why Circe is invading her country. I have a theory that the Princess is going to be revealed to actually be the real antagonist of the series and is seducing Rick Flag as a way to manipulate him. Pokolistan seems to be a VERY poor nation, but that doesn't stop the royal family from living in luxury while everyone outside the castle barely scrapes by on resources from other, much richer nations. Ilana's mom is also REALLY old and sick despite having a daughter that looks to be around 30, so Ilana might be poisoning her or something. Ilana might not even be the real Princess of Pokolistan, as she's significantly more attractive than any of the past rulers that were seen in the paintings. I'm thinking Ilana's an evil sorceress (possibly immortal as she has a thing for older guys), took over Pokolistan at some point, is planning to take over the world or something else really evil, and Circe is trying to stop her before moving on to taking over Themyscira. She's probably the villain the Commandos need to kill. Alexi - PROBABLY DIES. He's a goofy supporting character, but he's also loyal to the Princess. I foresee him either dying tragically or being killed by one of the Commandos.
Glad to hear it got better, because the first two episodes didn't hook me up. Also, nice shoot out to the Brave and The Bold. G.I. Robot is also in a B:TB&TB episode.
I'm really enjoying the show so far. I liked episode 2 more than 1, but overall it's been pretty good. Even the soundtrack, which is really niche, is hitting for me because it matches the setting and tone. But episodes 3 & 4 are the ones I'm really looking forward to with G.I. Robot and Weasel's backstories.
I don't think Gunn would agree with that statement or ever make a comparison like that about himself. Stan Lee was the actual co-creator of Marvel Comics alongside Jack Kirby. That's why Stan Lee made cameos. Gunn has way more respect for comics legends.
That's an insult to Stan Lee and I'm James Gunn number 1 glazer, but I wouldn't mind if DC made Stan Lee like cameos with comic book writers, for example, in the supergirl woman of tomorrow they can use a tom king cameo, that could be great
This show has been waiting around for 2 years now. I remember a year and a half ago Sean gunn said they finished recording dialogue before the sag aftra strike
I got to episode 2 and I was not sure how to feel, but Gunn has a deft hand so I was waiting to finish it. But after hearing that the third episode picks things up, I'm definitely sticking with it.
I think it's more badly written & directed fatigue than Superhero fatigue, I've watched action movies my entire life and some people make bad ones. It doesn't mean I'm tired of action movies I just don't watch badly written or directed ones. That's what Marvel is going through over the past few years, but they seem to be getting back on track and the badly written DCEU movies is what shot them in the foot the first time along with Director choices of course. They were trying to play catch up and as a writer that's a bad thing to do. You need time to live with the characters for a while when creating a new project and they were rushing everything.
Even Marvel had better year in 2025 than last year with X-Men 97, Deadpool and Wolverine, even Agatha All Along was a big surprise where last year, Guardians 3 and Loki S2 were their only good projects and the rest bit the dust. I know people like pitting Marvel and DC now, especially with James Gunn co running the DCU, but really they both want each other to succeed and the audience hope they both put out quality content. But we just have to see.
DC does the best when it adapts B and C list properties. Aquaman, JGs Suicide Squad/Peacemaker and Blue Beetle were the best things to come out of old DC. I think that's because there is more room to breathe as far as adaptation when it comes to properties that people aren't really familiar with. The problem with Zack Snyder was that people have a concrete idea of what Batman and Superman are supposed to be so when he deviates it creates disonance with the audience. I've been hearing good things about this and I'm glad DC is off to a strong start.
I'm enjoying the show so far. Plus its only been two episodes. I may be wrong but i get a feeling, someone on this team is going to die. I didn't think id enjoy PEACEMAKER, now i can't wait for season 2. Creature Commandos is a different way to start a universe, but i do appreciate the creativity in what James Gunn is doing. I do hope David Ayre gets a chance in The DCU though. But that was DCEU, Gunn is picking it up from THE Suicide Squad, the one James made. Im glad they have the episodes coming out weekly not all at once.
Finally we get something thats not just batman and superman. I mean come on DC has waaaaay better characters, and stories than just batman and superman (cough cough) Lobo (cough cough).
My only issue with ths show is it's forgettable. Hardcore fans will enjoy it such as myself but I'm hoping it's not forgettable. I recently rewatch Peacemaker and I enjoyed it but when rewatching I found myself thinking there is nothing in this show to generate conversations,It was a flat show. The most exciting thing that happened was the JL showing up. I think Gunn needs to dial it back and not make every film, every project a world saving issue. The MCU fell in that trap and DCU should stay away from Earth ending events until JL.
Gunn is a hack, the show is trash. Peacemaker was trash too, Casey Bloys admitted Hbo Max inflated Peacemaker numbers and used bots to promote the series.
It's not confusing he literally explained it in the first 3 minutes of episode 1. Someone who's never watched anything from the DCEU could easily watch this and not be confused
James Gunn is a great writer. HOWEVER, its not been proven he is great outside of things he KNOWS. Superman has a big cast but it should not be another snappy Guardians/Suicide Squad/Creature Commandos/Super story
Gunn is a hack who uses d list characters because he can deface them without backlash. Gunn has never been comic accurate at all. Gunn has openly stated that he doesn't like Superheros and doesn't care for comic accuracy.
Its gonna be real interesting to see Gunn's Superman since his forte has been "z listers with redeeming qualities", because Superman is literally THE Superhero
Thing is, he's never been afforded the opportunity to work on a big flagship character like Superman before. He got Guardians at Marvel because that's what they asked him to pitch for, and he got it.
@@mutalemwananshiku4098 Considering it was released during the pandemic, as part of a film continuity that already had a terrible reputation, and was directly connected to a movie that was WIDELY panned, frankly it's not a surprise his "The Suicide Squad" wasn't a hit. James Gunn aside, but people saw the name "Suicide Squad," remember how shitty that first one was, and just tossed it aside, not wanting to waste their time the way they did the first film.
It would be crazy expensive so they'd never do it in live action. You may see some of these characters in other things but the whole team requires too much CGI.
@@BaithNa I think you could totally do Frankenstein and the Bride practically with makeup and the stitching details. We've also already seen Weasel in live-action technically
This doesn't really prove anything. DC has always been good at animation. It's the live action stuff that mattters. It's ALL riding on Superman, if that underperforms Zaslav will not hesitate to trash the whole thing.
I was actually looking forward to Kite Man, I thought it would be fun little show, but goddamn I couldn’t finish one episode of it. Idk if that was one of the shows that suffered from AI writing from the strikes but that show was ass.
@@maxpokebruh27Gunn's humor is more fitting for Superman than Guardians but he already said each project will have it's own tone decided by the creatives on the project and the characters being used. He's not writing everything so its impossible for his style to be in everything.
This shyt is already overrated!!! It's just an ok show and it's the same shyt Gunn always does and is no different than Suicide Squad and even Guardians Of The Galaxy
I could barely finish the first episode. The voice direction was mid (outside of my girl Varma), the art style didn't match the vibe, all the jokes fell flat and I didn't care about the plot or characters (outside of the Bride). It sucks because I enjoyed Gunn's Suicide Squad and Peacemaker a lot. Does it get any better in episode 2? Edit: Hearing the review. I'll give episode 2 and 3 a shot but god damn, I hate that first episode.

That was blight, but yeah, heavy inspiration from dr phosphorus, even the design is...well the same.
James Gunn is in position to eventually become DC's Stan Lee and I'm here for it. He just needs a catch phrase.
@@BaithNa gunn didnt create these characters like stan lee did.
I don't think Gunn would agree with that statement or ever make a comparison like that about himself. Stan Lee was the actual co-creator of Marvel Comics alongside Jack Kirby. That's why Stan Lee made cameos. Gunn has way more respect for comics legends.
just stop
Bro stop it . 😂 How dare u put lee and Gunn in the same sentence. Gunn didn't create anything
That's an insult to Stan Lee and I'm James Gunn number 1 glazer, but I wouldn't mind if DC made Stan Lee like cameos with comic book writers, for example, in the supergirl woman of tomorrow they can use a tom king cameo, that could be great
This art style reminds me of that classic tv show . Mummies alive. I’m with it 🔥
a little boy named Presley found a secret out this year.
I’m liking it enough so far, but we’ll see if it sticks the landing.
I wish Marvel did more animation like this
If u mean rated r well u are getting marvel zombies.
@@mutalemwananshiku4098animation looks way worse than CC 💀
I really dislike the animation for What If.
@@mutalemwananshiku4098visual style is trying to be like Arcane. But does not compare.
X-Men 97 is probably the closest thing you'll get from Marvel
This show has been waiting around for 2 years now. I remember a year and a half ago Sean gunn said they finished recording dialogue before the sag aftra strike
Hell yes CC is great
I got to episode 2 and I was not sure how to feel, but Gunn has a deft hand so I was waiting to finish it.
But after hearing that the third episode picks things up, I'm definitely sticking with it.
DC animation is almost always quality
I think it's a good start! The bride is a very interesting character!
I gotta Thank yall for not spoiling it. I like the insight conversation about it.
Just watched the first two episodes. I like it so far.
I really like it, looking forward to see the next episodes !
James Gunn did a great job with this show
I think it's more badly written & directed fatigue than Superhero fatigue, I've watched action movies my entire life and some people make bad ones.
This is DCs version of monsters vs aliens in a way
I'm enjoying the show so far.
Amazing ep
Certainly an interesting start
This is great
I liked the two episodes I saw. Not spectacular and not bad either
6:35 great material for a "... but without context" meme 😂
Finally we get something thats not just batman and superman. I mean come on DC has waaaaay better characters, and stories than just batman and superman (cough cough) Lobo (cough cough).
Really enjoyed these first 2 episodes and this is looking like a great prologue to the DCU!
🤣 Of course you did, you shill for Gunn non stop.
@MadMax-ot3fi Living rent free in your head for simply showing support am I? Cry about it loser😂
If this is what James Gunn has in store for us i am very excited for whats next
Hi guys, can you please review the Cross tv series with Aldis Hodge?
One Martinee and 2 Full price, gonna check that out for sure
Let Gunn cook. DC can't afford to be stupid about this. Zaslav better sit back and shut up. I don't want Superman being a tax write-off. 😂
Superman aint getting a tax writeoff.
@mutalemwananshiku4098 WB is like Sony, they're capable of doing dumb shit, even impossible dumb shit.
@@redbigunwb fumbling Batman beyond like four times at this point
I love the soundtrack in this show
It's boring.
Not every mcu movie is a world ending issue.
Gunn is a hack, the show is trash. Peacemaker was trash too, Casey Bloys admitted Hbo Max inflated Peacemaker numbers and used bots to promote the series.
The canon is gonna be very confusing but as long James Gunn makes great projects so I’m hyped 💯
It's not confusing he literally explained it in the first 3 minutes of episode 1. Someone who's never watched anything from the DCEU could easily watch this and not be confused
A different version of them was in the Sargent Rock feature.
Now that I saw this, thanks to you guys. I absolutely love what I saw. I want to see more. 😂
James Gunn is a great writer. HOWEVER, its not been proven he is great outside of things he KNOWS. Superman has a big cast but it should not be another snappy Guardians/Suicide Squad/Creature Commandos/Super story
I disagree with Korey’s watered down take. I would say David Ayer’s Suicide Squad sanitized the team compared to Gunn’s version.
We haven't seen the Ayercut yet.
I didn’t find the first two episodes good or bad I hope Martin is right that it picks up in episode 3.
How many acclaimed superhero projects need before people stop complaining about superhero fatigue
James Gunn is a writer that understands characters. Superman is his favorite character.
Gunn is a hack who uses d list characters because he can deface them without backlash. Gunn has never been comic accurate at all. Gunn has openly stated that he doesn't like Superheros and doesn't care for comic accuracy.
Indira Varma is English of part Indian parentage. Please do your research
Heroes korey, mina not a piece of shit, nor is gi robot (he is a patriot).
This isn't James Gunn. Y'all giving this too much credit for being DC animation which as ALWAYS been their best product.
Its gonna be real interesting to see Gunn's Superman since his forte has been "z listers with redeeming qualities", because Superman is literally THE Superhero
He did pretty good with Harley Quinn in the Suicide Squad and she's considered the fourth pillar at DC.
@BaithNa She isn't a superhero tho lol
@@elae4051DC would say she's been a super hero for well over a decade now
Thing is, he's never been afforded the opportunity to work on a big flagship character like Superman before. He got Guardians at Marvel because that's what they asked him to pitch for, and he got it.
@@BaithNa to normies she isnt a super popular character.
It’s Gunn doing his usual schtick. A GOTG, Suicide Squad ragtag group of questionable individuals with tragic pasts. Superman will be the real test.
Thank you
Real test of what? He's already proven that he's one if the few people left in Hollywood that know how to make successful super hero movies.
@@BaithNa as beloved as TSS the movie bombed and didnt acheive the success that he did with guardians.
@thedefinitionisthis yea but it shows gunn isnt enough of a draw that him making it didnt draw more people to see it.
Wonder how this would translate to live action
It would be crazy expensive so they'd never do it in live action. You may see some of these characters in other things but the whole team requires too much CGI.
@@BaithNa I think you could totally do Frankenstein and the Bride practically with makeup and the stitching details. We've also already seen Weasel in live-action technically
Please do Amazon Secret Level.
So far it feels like suicide squad again
And it should because it's a direct sequel to the Suicide Squad.
24:29 😂😂😂😂😂😂
This show is not rough to watch then Japanese anime.
I’m waiting till ALL the episodes to come out
This doesn't really prove anything. DC has always been good at animation. It's the live action stuff that mattters. It's ALL riding on Superman, if that underperforms Zaslav will not hesitate to trash the whole thing.
33:30 but doesnt creature commandos also have easter eggs.
Let Bobby pills cook
Let them cook up French animation gouchine
Thumb nail made me miss Freakazoid
It reminds of doom patrol
not james gunn putting himself in the op
I was actually looking forward to Kite Man, I thought it would be fun little show, but goddamn I couldn’t finish one episode of it. Idk if that was one of the shows that suffered from AI writing from the strikes but that show was ass.
I do like the show so far but James Gunn does have a certain show that I really hope doesn't spread to the other DCU products.
I really hope it does. I want DCU to end
@@tonybensreally? You want James Gunn's humor in Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman?

I could barely finish the first episode. The voice direction was mid (outside of my girl Varma), the art style didn't match the vibe, all the jokes fell flat and I didn't care about the plot or characters (outside of the Bride). It sucks because I enjoyed Gunn's Suicide Squad and Peacemaker a lot. Does it get any better in episode 2?
