  • Dr. Cunningham is an Australian emergency medicine physician who first described this method in 2003. The method doesn't require any sedation or force and relies on the concept that the humeral head wants to go back into the glenoid fossa, but can't because of muscle spasms.
    In this video, taken from our Emergency Procedures Masterclass (Part 2), we discuss selecting the right patient for this technique and the steps for performing the technique.

    Wish I've had the awareness to see how to place back my shoulder when I woke up with my shoulder dislocated. Woke up at 03:00 with my shoulder dislocated I did instantly start pulling on that arm to place it back for a solid 15 minutes before putting the lights on or even understanding what was happening.

      Did you follow a rehabilitation program after the surgery? Because it is vital to follow a strict rehab program after to go back to yiur original state (or as close to it as possible anyway)

      it'll never be the same, my friend. best thing you can do is to never stop rehabbing your shoulder. that's your best shot at returning to like 90%, keeping everything tight and strong. otherwise you risk another dislocation, even after surgery

    • @heeberman
      @heeberman 3 года назад +7

      Agreed, the point at which the shoulder is supposed fall back into place isn't even stated. Also, what does massaging the bicep "for three seconds on each side" mean? Your bicep only has one "side" and you surely aren't massaging the uninjured arm.

    • @MrPrinny23
      @MrPrinny23 3 года назад +4

      @@heeberman he plainly said you won't hear a clunk with this technique. And your bicep has two sides, inner and outer, so just knead the whole muscle like dough (like he said). Your quote is not in the video.

      I do not appreciate replies for the purpose of pontification. Its a You Tube video. no an orthopedic residency. Perhaps they are unhappy because there is no actual real world patient video to watch.

    Why is the patient who isn't a candidate for this technique a woman of colour? And why is the ER physician always a man?

    • @myth3516
      @myth3516 3 года назад +3

      Yeah who cares about this!? Also it’s very likely that a woman in general is more anxious when it comes to dislocations so this might not be the best technique for them. Are you a Doctor Catherine?
