hahahahahaahhaahahaha Damn right!
i hade the same reaction and thats the reason why i clicked to see...

now, I prefer this long than 2 hours. c:
I like long videos because I have an old brain and need details and repetition to get the neurons firing.
These tutorials have helped me no end with my Donuts vs Anvils unity game.

I remember last year starting this series and actually having trouble following along. I kept having to rewind the video and then watch it again, rewind it and then watch it again in order to understand what was going on. Today I started watching the entire series again just to kind of gauge my personal development as far as my own skill set and knowledge set in regards to blender. I noticed a funny thing or maybe I should say an interesting thing. In almost every part of the video other than texturing, I knew exactly what was going to happen next and how to do it. 95% of the video was common knowledge to me. But 8 months ago, I felt like a steamboat engineer working on a warp engine.
I just thought that was interesting and thought I would share that tidbit of information. By the way, I'm still not that good at modeling. But perhaps I have moved up to an internal combustion engine engineer.
Hi,
You are awesome
thanks so much this encouraged me to keep trying bc i feel the same way you described you initially felt
Same.
Wow! I'm impressed by your words..i hope to work hard to improved my leaning fast
I've been watching another blender tutorial series (How to model a gyrocopter), and it takes me about two hours to advance 20-30 minutes of video. Afterwards I'm pretty exhausted after concentrating for so long and intensively. I quess that's pretty understandable. You really can't watch a video and model at the same time, and you also need some time to actually understand what's happening.
I think it's fair to say that half the skill in modelling is understanding the software enough to utilise its features, and the other half is maintaining the knowledge of when and how to use each of them.
Then you figure out that it seems there's almost always a half dozen ways for doing something. So even as you get experienced you're always looking for which method yields the quickest results.
(Btw, who else knows mostly what they're doing but watches tutorials anyways because of this? Usually they repeat what you know already, but sometimes they slip in something clever. Then again with experience there's lots of 3D modeling videos that make you face palm too. Andrew is doing good here so far, although I'd have started with the cube.)
This is what I do. I will often watch tutorials to learn more efficient ways of completing common tasks.
Same here. I love watching Andrew in 2x speed just to catch moments that can help me learn faster ways to do stuff. Actually if you are a 3D artist in Blender learning new and updated stuff from a better/more experienced pro is a must if you want to get better.
dat shift z though...
I thought it was a piece of hair on my phone, and I tried wiping it off too. then I realized it was just ur pic.....
honestly, despite recently following a bunch of tutorials about blender and modelling, proportional editing is something new to me and I'm blown away by just how much I've learned from you in a single video. Great work mate, clear, consice and easy to follow. Thanks a ton for your efforts!

These videos have helped me greatly! 2 weeks ago i was so lost with Blender. I knew Fusion360, solid space stuff, and a touch of z-brush before really sitting down and learning Blender. The donut tutorial and the Anvil tutorial basically teach you the main things you need to know to get started. Andrew is also easy to listen to and follow along with. Only thing id love to happen is a new Anvil tutorial with blender 3.0 as some features are different now. But i owe a lot to Andrew, donuts and anvils! lol! Thanks a ton for putting these videos out for free!!
I've been working in Blender for years and NEVER knew all of the little hiding and loop cut locking tricks. So helpful!
it's so cool when you're learnin modelling and you find a video and you're like "should i watch it?" thinking that it'll end up being something you already would've known how to do but with more or less clever approaches (which is worthy enough for me) but end up actually learning new things that either taught you how to create some objects that you otherwise wouldn't have known how to create or at the very least taught you how to create them in much simpler ways
Been using Blender for ~11 years now and I still plan to watch all your tutorials! Really want to make some of my own now too.
Keep up all the great work on BGuru and Poliigon!
4 years later .. how's it going for you now that you have you own audience base and people learning from you ? ;p
@@Crowsey thanks for finding this :) going good

i don't mind if this guy bombs his tutorials with lots of ads, i'd still watch it, it's his bread and butter. helped me through the hell hole self-learning stuffs and this guy had a lot of patience to do that, basically learned how to do basics but not the advanced stuff and i'd still be hoping i could learning more from the guru himself. more power
Yes! Right after I finished the donut tutorial about two weeks ago and dabbled since then, you've begun yet another tutorial series.
You are a god amongst men.
Loved that donut tute... I strongly recommend following it with the Make a Cave vid (with the glowy crystal in the thumbnail... might be 2 parts?) It builds nicely on the skills from the donut series and gives great results!
Mang thanks for recommending the cave tutorial. I wasn't entirely sure where to go after the donut. I'll try that. Thanks. 👍😄
@@SirEatsCrackAlot ill see this too
Andrew, I have been messing with Blender as a hobby for about 10 months now and most things I have needed so far I have figured out on my own. However, my biggest weak point is modeling. I can tinker with the mesh and usually get close to where I need it to be on rather simple objects. But my workflow and thought process has always been sloppy and a time waster. This video showed me a lot and I am starting to understand modeling in a total different way that makes so much more sense.
Moving on to episode 2... Thanks for these videos.
what were you doing for 10 months if not modelling? :D
Did the donut and the chair. Thought I was ready for a character. Chose between that or a motorcycle. Failed miserably and here I am. So true what you said in the intro, and thanks for providing these awesome tutorials so beginners like me have a way to progress when we inevitably fail at too advanced stuff ;)
100% true. I was completely clueless when I started using blender. but because of him. I can make wonderful models.
I’m a musician, a photographer, an illustrator truly anything artsy I love. I love being able to learn new things and processes on how to achieve and translate a never ending flow of imagination. I just wanted to reach out and say thank you for these videos and education you’ve provided. I understand the time it must take to record as ive done video editing and a little journalism so I understand what goes into it. That doing multiple takes of yourself trying to accurately deliver information while not being dry takes some grit and some strong tea lol. I think you’re very informative and a great teacher while being so unassuming in your own level of humour which has had me smiling while learning. Your efforts are greatly appreciated and while we’ve never met I will say it does feel so spending hours with a stranger talking to you like a friend showing you new things. I lucked out finding these videos so thanks again great job I hope to get good at this at some point. Now if you could let me know one question to something that’s making me mad I’d be very happy. I’m starting into the VR as I really like tiltbrush and upcoming apps with their very intuitive use. That being said I’m learning blender to model then import those creations into the Vr world to film and create artistic music videos. I’m struggling at figuring out how to import my models from blender into Tilltbrush specifically while maintaining its texture and or colour. They have associated .mtl files I’m stumped. I know it can do it as I’ve seen success on other imports. The feeling of juggling around that donut we created in blender in VR was so cool. I’m looking to create my own scenes ( eventually ) without relying on other people’s models and having the education moving forward. Sorry for the chapter lol any help would be greatly appreciated. Loving the vids I’ll be learning a lot this weekend thanks again Andrew.
If @12:20 anyone is having trouble with proportional editing only effecting the closest edges/vertices then you'll have to adjust your "Sphere of Influence". Select + G + scroll mouse to expand or shrink the circle that pops up. Thanks to this vid: ruclips.net/video/fuddZUv7MzA/видео.html
thanks! I had problems at 7:00, the whole object was being scaled, had to scroll to make the circle smaller
just found this tutorial, and I'm not sure a comment here will be read, but I wanted to say that this is such a helpful video! The tutorials on blender's website are far too slow, assume the viewer knows too little, and learns too slowly. This video is a perfect pace, packs tons of information in without making it incomprehensible, and the commentary is upbeat and engaging. Honestly excited to keep watching the series, an effect no tutorial video has had on me before. Thanks for making these!
hey man, first i want to say thank you for making these tutorials. i havent been this excited to create in a long time. i know its a tall order, but id ask that you consider remaking these like you did the original donut series. im finding it hard to follow along because the UI is so different now, and many of the features have been merged/changed. Im going to finish regardless, but it would definitely be valuable for people down the road to have a fresh take. thanks again! :)
Ok, I'm starting completely over on the entire anvil tutorials after finding out that tiny imperfections in the beginning lead to bigger and bigger problems later on. This time it's going to be perfect, this time I know what's coming up later. This time is going to be epic! Wahooooo! Blenderguru bless me and may my efforts please the Blender gods! I'm going to learn to love modeling! Yay!:))))))))) Happy feet and fingers!
Mate, you're a champion. Thank you for such ridiculously amazing and inspirational tutorials!
I wish I had seen this before I start modeling in Blender (a helmet, 1 time in 3d virtual art, 2 weeks ago), now I'm watching all your tutorials, and others, everyday I learn something new, this software is amazing. Thanks a lot Andrew.
0:59 I've seen this video several times and just now noticed the Blender Guru logo on the anvil. Nice touch.
Honestly, quality of your instruction is leagues above all others I've come across. You explain what you're doing, why you're doing it, and most importantly *how* you're doing it. Your videos are designed to teach, instead of others that are just kinda talking as they make something for themselves.
The others require a foundation, whereas yours teaches the foundation.
Blender guru should to do a updated version of this tutorial series
This holds up pretty well
even that I don't model anymore, I still watch your videos, it has something special about it that I love to watch
Pun in the first ten seconds. This'll be good
Bob Tipping 😂 I found it surprising.
Bob Tipping and a good one at that.
i laughed so hard at this
Bob Tipping I missed it.
that isn't a pun
I've used blender for years and hardly used tutorials. But now, I'm actually starting to watch to tutorials (in my day, most of them were written tutorials anyway), to see what skills I can pick up (that I might have missed) and learn the things I completely glossed over. This is very useful even for the "advanced/expert/experienced" users out there.
Nuu I forgot this was part 1! I was expecting one video modelling the anvil itself. So this is what it feels like to be watching a series as it's being uploaded. :/
KhOrganization
Well the anvil so far can't make horseshoes, but it'll do fine for a blacksmith that specialises in flat stuff.
After years of programming in c++ finally, I can play with matrices the tutorial is as good as udemy course thanks blender guru!
I would die to see a tutorial series for Shading and Lighting!
But then you wouldn't be able to see it...
Because you'd be dead...
Weirdo.
@@nobodys_winds6580 you just don’t understand. Looking down from the crystal ball in heaven
Wow, Ive never seen anybody smile during a whole video!! Especially for a Blender tutorial!!
Now we need new series after beginner series please
Little advance
Pranav Panchal usually the stuff in between beginner and a bit advance is self taught, believe it or not! I can watch Andrews tutorials pretty easily. And I just learn how to go to edit mode do loop cuts and how to love things around such as faces, edges, etc. But the rest I learned myself by making weapons from my favourite game series! From that I learned a little bit more and more. Now I have a pretty nice foundation for blender! Good luck! :D
I like idea of an 'intermediate' series.
Dean Thomas I see. Sorry I can't think of anyone off the top of my head that does tutorials for intermediates, and I can't remember if Andrew did some. Usually what you can try doing to learn new things is either A. Try modelling something familiar maybe from a game that seems pretty simple. I did the kingdom key from kingdom hearts. Just by doing something like that you may figure some new things out, whether it's by figuring it out by accident or looking it up on Google when you encounter the problem. Or B. Look for a tutorial on RUclips modelling something step by step (like this video) but it's more advanced. Now you don't have to follow along (I don't, if I do follow along then I do it after watching all the videos) but just by watching the videos you'll notice some habits that the pros have, or different techniques that they have. For example how Andrew made the curve of the anvil for the base. I would've done it the first way he mentioned. But the way with proportional editing is so much easier and better. I usually avoided proportional editing because for me it was a nightmare to use. I still don't understand how Andrew knows which setting to use for certain curves, but nonetheless it's still smart. So try doing those and you'll most likely learn something new.
Pranav Panchal No! We still *need* beginner ANIMATION tutorial!
Yea it pretty much that Andrew's advanced tutorials are for biggeners as he teaches them for biggener understanding your awesome bye the way Andrew :)
@ 6:00 Even tho I'm using Blender for some years now, but when I watch your Beginner tutorials to freshen up my basics, I always learn these kind of small things.
This lesson is so worthy it looks it makes sense to release the same for Blender 3, as UI changed, don't you think so, 3D crew?
I love your videos because that's what exactly you do in any course, you learn techniques to make your job easier, all the tools applied, and everything shown in these video series explains in detail what a beginner should really do, how to make the application/program work for you, and you're doing in for free. this is seriously highly ppreciated
Although I know a fair bit about modelling, I'm going to watch this series and see what I can pick up.
I just finished the doughnut scene in the beginner tutorial, so now I'm moving onto this. All of this was spurred on by a sudden interest in game creation. If there's anything I take away from these tutorials, it's the understanding that I have a very long way to go in order to get to a game creation stage, as well as a new appreciation for the game development industry.

Thank you for dropping this video, this is going to help me in the long run
10:30 when he add loop cut its in z axis but mine is in x axis and its not changing can you help
at 13:00 I was struggling because when I would shrink down my mesh, the vertical edges would start to cave diagonally. If you're having the same issue, make sure proportional editing off, and then after you hit S to scale, hit SHIFT + Y and that should work. and then hit G to slide it up like he did :)
4:46 I was blowing my nose very hard, I nearly had an heart attack xD You're awsome Andrew, nice tutorials!! :D
why are your videos so much more well Thought Out, educational and actually useful than three years of studying at university for games art and design?
its funny that 500k finished the beginner series and 1.3m are watching intermediate
I think this one is quite a bit older than the revised donut one.
First Blender Beginners Tut. i´ve seen that does not sculpt characters or difficult sculpts, just the basics and shaping.... thank you mate!
It's looking like this would be the ideal next step in tutorials after the Donut, but I'm finding that the controls are substantially different from Blender 4.0 now. Not sure the chances you'll see this or if you have recommendations for up-to-date next-step tutorials, but please make a new one or share some ideas if you can. Love the content!
Having your inputs shown at the bottom left is amazing, thank you!

Thanks Andrew for all the free content, you've taught me a lot. I personally prefer the larger intermediate tutorials because the ones you've made so far each identify a new way of thinking of blender that I would never have explored otherwise. Give it a like if you agree.

I just downloaded Blender and didn't know what I was doing. I have lots of experience with CAD programs, but this is so different. Just this one video has so much small and simple, but really helpful tips in it that I really want to watch all the other videos. Even through this is on youtube for free. I have paid for the materials and the video download for this series. Only started with blender as I saw one of your videos. I will always just be a tinkerer with 3d art, but you are doing a great job on production of these tutorials for those that want to take it further. Thanks for thinking about us tinkerers.
Why did you pay for this? The program is free and this video series is free. I can understand that some books and stuff costs money, but that, I would think, is more for if you can't keep a constant connection with the internet.

Ray LeBlanc probably alt-click
There is a command to select all vertical in relation to what was clicked, then another for horizontal. This was covered in the first series.
it wouldnt seem, from the tool in the bottom -left of the screen...
As Blazertron said 'alt-click' is the most likely solution - plus, if you find difficulty matching the influence of the proportional edit as seen in this video ( 07:59 ) you can increase or decrease the radius of the influence circle by scrolling the middle mouse button back & forth.
