I recall being in a friend's prelude when the rear end stepped out around a bend at around 180km/h (112mph)... My heart sank, yet he lightly counter-steered in the other direction and instantly regained control. I drove it on many occasions and I must admit that it handled remarkably well, especially for a 2000-dollar car. Good brakes too, 1:1 horsepower per litre, and that nice little snap/sound when Vtec kicks in puts a smile on your dial :)
In 2002 I bought a 97 Prelude SH with 80k and I'm still daily driving it today. Not a single major repair needed and it's still running fine on practically all original factory parts (except consumables). I was single at the time and now married and we used that lude as our only car for almost 10 yrs. It's rickety, loud, and my wife wants me to get rid of it, but it still puts a smile on my face...
The Lude with the H22 under the hood was a bad ass car, my buddy's kept trying build their cars to go faster and faster. Left mine all stock and still them in the rearview lol I loved that car. Now I'm old and got to get a pilot (damn kids an wife, fuckers lol)

I had a 3rd gen before. An amazing vehicle it was. Sold it last year due to blown head. Now a year later I am buying a 4ws 3rd gen later today. Can I express how this video releasing today is a sign from the UNIVERSE!!?
Actually I wear a Snap-On hat daily cause I love my tax collectors. O'Reillys is our first call at my shop so if we need something ASAP we call them first.
Actually, the first implementation of the double-wishbone suspension was in the 1930s by French car manufacturer Citroen, but, you know, you say what you want.
Not exactly "invented", but yes they did a way better use of it during a time in which pretty much every hecking thing was being made with MacPherson Strut Suspensions...
My BB6 is sitting in the driveway, working on it's rus... natural weight reduction. The missing bits of rear quarter panel are just nature's speed holes.
Sold mine some years ago. Fun to drive but drank oil like an irish sailor. Love every minute though. She got me in a lot of trouble with the cops and alot of pussy.

BB1 Prelude may be one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Beautiful body lines. A bit heavy, but remarkably well balanced. Cornered like it was on rails. Drove mine super hard. It took everything I threw at it, and then some. I miss that car every day, but have amazing memories with it.

I feel like the in the States, the Integra should’ve been sold as a Honda and the Prelude should’ve been sold as an Acura. Because Honda kept pricing the Prelude as a more luxurious car with new cool tech in 4WS, ATTS, and Type SH trim, and V-TEC; whereas the Integra at the time was comparatively bare bones and had the Type R models. Unfortunately the Prelude family tree existed as a Honda badged car before Acura even existed in the US so it might’ve been awkward to transition it into the Acura badge
The other issue with the pricing was the fact that the prelude was more often used as their experimental model. They would test devices on this car and if it worked, they would put it on the rest of their line up. Take 4ws for example. That was the first occurrence of 4ws for Honda and it was all mechanical. Ingenious designing but got hit with practicality issues. Meaning the wheels turned regardless of speed so parking to close to a curb would mean that when you try to leave the curb, the back wheels would turn into the curb causing parking issues. That is why they didn't have it in the later generations. All that experimenting costs a lot of money from the designing aspect and that cost was passed onto the drivers in a more expensive car. Now that being said, I love my prelude for its history as well as is amazing handling and rev happy engine, even if the car was quite heavy for its class at nearly 3000 lbs.
krmorales122 I’m quite curious because you seem to be familiar with the Prelude and 4WS’s shortcoming (or may have watched Regular Car Reviews like me) but the current Acura TLX has a more modern 4ws system called P-AWS do you think that it has the same flaws that the Prelude has when parking? I tried to look up some literature on it/forums and found no mentions of it were found. It maybe that the FWD TLX buyers/community is small/nonexistent or Acura really hit the ball out of the park this time.
@@SilverScarletSpider the main difference is that the tlx is just as you said, more modern. The fact that is was electronic instead of mechanical was all that system needed to be successful. I used to have a 240sx with their own version called super heas or something like that. I had zero complaints about it and I wish more cars included it cuz of how fun it was. And I did watch them but I knew about that issue because my dad thought it was a funny instance of good 'on paper' ideas backfiring
I loved my 5th gen. The body style was timeless. I had simple mods CAI, Exhaust,Headers and lowered. It would purr when cruising and roar when I opened it up. Simple and clean I always got compliments.
i just got a 97 with automatic dont no if iam going to like it yet but love the vtec and the looks. have header a chip aftermarket lowering kit tires and rims cold air intake and the exhaust seems to run really good just wish it was a 5-speed
Still have my lude from 99.... bought pretty much all the mugen parts for since 99. The lude was always been the black sheep of the Honda fam. Which is fine by me...
I had a 2000 prelude. I took of the Pr and then centered ELUDE in the back. Cops didn't like it. Lol Most fun car I've had next to my 2020 veloster N performance pack. #4cylindertillidie
I bought an abandoned 99' prelude that was still running for almost nothing. Sold my e82 bmw to buy another 97' vtec in better shape bc i liked it so much. Its slower but i dont care, its a lot more fun and brings more smiles to me and the people seeing it. I own the only two preludes where i live so almost noone has seen one before
i am not even a car guy, and i been binge watching this channel since days ago and havent stop watching since. best channel on youtube right now, props to the artistic team behind this channel, as a fellow graphic artist i am so impressed by the subtle and simple yet effective use of graphic design and comedic creativity.
I have been waiting for this for months. I currently own a 2nd gen and I can confirm that it handles like a DREAM. And with it's light weight and decent torque it feels faster than it actually is. Great little cars those Preludes!
Lightning! Lightning! LIGHTNING! LIGHTNING! Dude, I love that little PepBoys back story lol wtf?!? Great video! Why. Do. We. Always. Get. The. Short. End. Of. The. Stick. Lmao
I had a 92 Prelude Si and it was amazing! Bought it used in early 96 and such a wonderful little car. The acceleration was nothing to write home about, but OMG could it handle. One of the most direct feeling steering cars that was not a fancy Euro car or exotic. It did exactly what you told it to do and gave great feedback from all the controls. It was Japanese, so not the pure mechanical feeling of a 944/924S/968, but for the price and low cost of replacement parts it was king. The body style still does not look dated now in early 2019. The version that came next was more tame, had creature comforts like a cup holder and felt more like driving an Accord.
To this day preludes are my absolute dream car, I’ve owned 4 and am a current owner of one. I’ll never sell it or let it go. I love almost every single thing about them except the auto transmissions xD
hey im wanting to buy a prelude for my first car and im stuck between the 3rd and 4th gen. I know this commet is two years late hahah but if you could give me some advice on which you think is better lmk

As a 1G 1981 Prelude owner, I can tell you they’re far from bad, they were just meant to be the most luxurious Honda they offered at the time, with innovative technology and sportier feeling than their other models Hence why it has a shorter wheelbase while being larger than the Accord of the time, it also was the first car of its class to offer from factory, from the lowest trim level an electric sunroof (which turned in 1980 to a moonroof that was tinted), also had a digital clock, 2 barrel carbs (3 with CVCC) and wonderful bucket seats (yes, that’s what they say in the brochures of the time) And trust me, seating in this car feels really nice, the mats are super soft, the seats feel like sofas and you’re so low to the grow in this car (for comparison, I have an EK Hatch and I noticed I was higher up in my 96 Civic than in my 81 Prelude !) I truly love this car, it’s not the fastest, not the most powerful, but it has character, is rare and unique and my passion for it just keeps increasing each time I set my eyes on it
The second I saw this I got so excited. I own an 01 prelude, it’s my first car and I saved for a year to buy it. Absolutely love it, if you don’t mention the speeding tickets. Thank you donut
So I’m only 14 and me and my dad we’re at a junkyard looking for a project for me to work on and we saw a 1988 lude and I talk to the guy and got a steal for $150 dollars
I love my 5th gen SH. The best first car and I get told it’s the cleanest one people have seen. Sad they’re rare but it makes it more unique and valuable to me
This video just reignited my love for the Honda Prelude! Incredible job covering every aspect of this iconic car. Can't wait to see what else Up to Speed has in store!
@@Sk1m_Beeble wrong.... many people are still building and buying them. I have two.. a 94 allmotor cams F20b making 230 whp and a 93 vtec that’s turbo making 305 on 7 psi.
I own a 4th generation prelude h23 turbo and it's the best thing since sliced bread. It's as comfy as an accord with a pissed off attitude 😍 plus Mugen front end
Idk if that 0.1 L difference really does all that much but I'm running an H22 01 base. Best little commuter I could ask for. Balance shaft delete, manual timing tensioner, intake and exhaust. All the basics, minimal work, drive it everyday!
I've got a 97 Base, all original, matching number, interior has only had the radio head unit and radio replaced(door handle to figure, but the radio is still oem) cars got 226 on a stock, original, no rebuild engine. The thing still kicks ass. Btw follow Florida Preludes my guys. If you in Florida join us.
I love my '92 prelude, shame that I missed the VTEC upgrade by one year. She's getting on in years, but I'm finally at the place in life where I can start spending a little on fixing her up!
Unless you grab a used car, you won't get vtec... Since Honda has lost their way with the newer gens, (ex 10th gen Civic Si) moving to tiny turbo engines and dropping the vtec.
I'm really pleased by your devotion to presenting motor enthusiasts with something they want to know. Trust me, US is not the only country getting the shorter end of the stick, you might want to take India into consideration... Also, by the way, will you please make videos on most awesome Racetracks around the world... And videos on Race spec cars (Not production cars)??? Please???
It's not just motor enthusiasts, man. They are making people who only thought in passing "hey cars are pretty cool right" into motor enthusiasts. and getting some videos on race spec cars? HELL YEAH, MAN!
Boss asked me what I want for a company car, instantly mentioned this as just a car show/weekend car, And I’ll keep my current car for commuting. I am now in the process of buying a 2.2 vtec with 4ws & the motegi kit. Won’t have to pay insurance or tax and after a year I’ll own it, I’m stupidly excited for this
Gotta be one of the best, most overlooked sports cars of the 80's and 90's.

I just picked up an 01 base model. I agree, I think it looks phenomenal and not dated at all in 2018.
Could have bought mine lol. Sold my 99 a month ago.
Trustfire just finished mine :)
Still have my lude from 99.... bought pretty much all the mugen parts for since 99. The lude was always been the black sheep of the Honda fam. Which is fine by me...
Same, fringe class baby!!!
I've had 4th and 5th gen Preludes and they were both superb. A forgotten classic!
Totally wish I had this guy as my teacher growing up. I would be able to learn just about anything, easily! Lighting lightning lightning!!
Bro the way they plugged in the pep boys advertisement was lit.
lmfao it was
Lightning! Lightning! LIGHTNING! LIGHTNING! Dude, I love that little PepBoys back story lol wtf?!? Great video! Why. Do. We. Always. Get. The. Short. End. Of. The. Stick. Lmao
Herbert Zischkau Would you please give my racing channel a Subscribe
I have an automatic one😑
My current one is an automatic lmao I’ve been trying to source a manual trans and have had zero luck

SMH, no mention of the sweet 4th gen digital dash ...
Its futuristic and amazes me i wish more had that look

I own one with EL cluster. I just don't want to dude one with a normal one in my life.
Cause this dude is lame as fuck

The car that got me into cars. Always blew my mind how these seemed to be a forgotten sports coupe.
I bought myself a 97 prelude it's a really nice car to drive I'm loving it
Can we get up to speed of some tracks like nurburgring ?

Nurburgring and Nordschleife

Interlagos
Silverstone
Suzuka

Arnas HW no that's boring
FINALLY THE PRELUDE VIDEO BRO I BEEN WAITING FOR MY CAR TO COME UP 😩😩😩🤦🏾♂️
Never owned one of these, but that car made me a Honda-fanatic.
got me a project 98 prelude SH. definitely a badass car, definitely one i see myself in for the upcoming years.
Awesome! As always!
Some tips if you don't have any material for the next episodes: (I know you have, but still...)
- lexis lfa
- Lotus Elise
- mg
- Pininfarina or Bertone
- alfa romeo
- Abarth / Abarth 500
- Ford focus
- suzuki
- alfa romeo quadrifoglio verde (kind of sub brand)...
- lancia
please do alfa romeo...
No one wants suzuki lol
Honda accord
Lancia will make me cry
Why. Won't. You. Do. The. Celica.
Kinda ugly no?
I thought it has been already done...
@@frosword nope, he's done the mr2 and supra, but hasn't finished the trio
@@bluhistoryisthename7031 Just like your mom
Fuckin yes! I want a Celica episode! Lol XD
The thing that makes this channel so success is the nostalgia factor
As a 1G 1981 Prelude owner, I can tell you they’re far from bad, they were just meant to be the most luxurious Honda they offered at the time, with innovative technology and sportier feeling than their other models
Hence why it has a shorter wheelbase while being larger than the Accord of the time, it also was the first car of its class to offer from factory, from the lowest trim level an electric sunroof (which turned in 1980 to a moonroof that was tinted), also had a digital clock, 2 barrel carbs (3 with CVCC) and wonderful bucket seats (yes, that’s what they say in the brochures of the time)
And trust me, seating in this car feels really nice, the mats are super soft, the seats feel like sofas and you’re so low to the grow in this car (for comparison, I have an EK Hatch and I noticed I was higher up in my 96 Civic than in my 81 Prelude !)
I truly love this car, it’s not the fastest, not the most powerful, but it has character, is rare and unique and my passion for it just keeps increasing each time I set my eyes on it
The second I saw this I got so excited. I own an 01 prelude, it’s my first car and I saved for a year to buy it. Absolutely love it, if you don’t mention the speeding tickets. Thank you donut
Yes! The Honda Prelude is a king!
Spent a lot of hours in the computer room. Brings back lots of memories of getting in trouble.
So I’m only 14 and me and my dad we’re at a junkyard looking for a project for me to work on and we saw a 1988 lude and I talk to the guy and got a steal for $150 dollars
Proud owner of a 97 luda. Worked on h22a engines for 15 + years. Great tec
Except it burns oil like a motherfucker. I have a 98 sh, swapped to euro r h22a (217hp) burns oil like a mofo
i got the h23 from the 2005 accord euro type r.
Prelude should have been RWD to take on the Silvia. That H22A would have taken out the sr20de...
McNavarone nah the Silvia is sick and Silvia has more engine options to go with it would be the h22a and honestly VTec too
In other words S2000?
Too soon junior.
Supra should've been made to take on the Skyline but it wasn't. One up fron a Celica and made to compete with the crap C4 Corvette
Pedram Bastan a slower s2k. The s2k is a mid engine roadster. Yes its mid engine cos the front axle is in front of the engine
Loved my 93 'lude. One of the best cars I've owned.
*WHY DON'T PEOPLE STILL TALK ABOUT THIS THING?!*
Probably cos fwd and no type r
Robert Gordon there’s a type s honda prelude
We talk about the Prelude daily for months and months and months....on facebook group 3rd gen prelude enthusiasts and Honda Prelude.
@Hammock Shark NSX? S2k?
@@Sk1m_Beeble wrong.... many people are still building and buying them. I have two.. a 94 allmotor cams F20b making 230 whp and a 93 vtec that’s turbo making 305 on 7 psi.
Look at the new nsx
Look at the new Supra
Do we really want an new prelude?
I like the new NSX and Supra!
@@trii.spokes The supra is a z4 honestly a disgrace to the supra name.
Actually. Kinda'. YES!
@@ekipierrobert1989 Better than the Yamaha Supra MK4
@@trii.spokes I agree I like the new nsx and supra
Really enjoyed this episode, especially after owning a 4th and 5th gen and wondering why a successor was never made.
Just found this channel a few weeks ago.
My first car was a manual, 1998, red Prelude. Loved it to death.
I own a 4th generation prelude h23 turbo and it's the best thing since sliced bread. It's as comfy as an accord with a pissed off attitude 😍 plus Mugen front end
Respect! I'm running 92 h23a boosted lude..
JDM 92 Prelude here! #LudeGang
Idk if that 0.1 L difference really does all that much but I'm running an H22 01 base. Best little commuter I could ask for. Balance shaft delete, manual timing tensioner, intake and exhaust. All the basics, minimal work, drive it everyday!
Love my 98 sh even tho The atts doesn’t function. Gotta go bass model. Anyone got a base 5spd trans?
I've got a 97 Base, all original, matching number, interior has only had the radio head unit and radio replaced(door handle to figure, but the radio is still oem) cars got 226 on a stock, original, no rebuild engine. The thing still kicks ass. Btw follow Florida Preludes my guys. If you in Florida join us.
Up to speed on Pumphrey's dad next?
Jk VTEC JUST KICKED IN YOOOO BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
The GingerBreadMan baaaaaaaaaa 😂😂😂
BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA FUCK
*BWAAAAAAA
I love my '92 prelude, shame that I missed the VTEC upgrade by one year. She's getting on in years, but I'm finally at the place in life where I can start spending a little on fixing her up!
Holy fuck man I almost cried, this is my favorite honda model of all time. I own the 1992 prelude sadly no v-tec but hopefully one day!!!
I have a 5th gen and is is an amazing car, I love it.
Honestly one of my favorite cars.
try doing an episode on accords, by the time you got around all model years and domestic markets it would be a 30 minute episode
Boss asked me what I want for a company car, instantly mentioned this as just a car show/weekend car, And I’ll keep my current car for commuting.
I am now in the process of buying a 2.2 vtec with 4ws & the motegi kit.
Won’t have to pay insurance or tax and after a year I’ll own it, I’m stupidly excited for this
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MY HEART .
"Why do we always get the short end of the stick" lmao i felt that shit.
Aww, I am now from the US but even I felt it!
At least you guys get something of the stick, here in Brazil most of the time we can barely see it
