This one was about admiration...for the composer and for the Giant on the saxophone....Oscar always had that look of humility and the shyness around him when he shared the stage with the Legends of early jazz.
Ellington might have composed this tune... but Webster made it all his own. No one had that kind of tone that fits this music perfectly. It's like he's breathing through an extension of his lungs... not playing an instrument. And Peterson doesn't show off like of course like he can... but would be wrong for this seminal piece of Spiritual music! I used to have a recording of Webster with Joe Zawinul... they were roommates in NYC in the early 50s and plays gigs together. Who wooda thought? But they knew each other so well musically and as friends that their music communication was startling!

What a sound!.......
Great to hear Ben and Oscar together, thanks for sharing!
Come Sunday you'll be in my arms again :)
From Ellington's "Black, Tan, and Beige" suite. Beautiful song, well-played.
Perfect play!!!!
