    This video being legal to show on TV already means Canada is an amazing country with freedom. and humor.
    I am Thai and our laws regarding censorship of the monarchy is outrageous, I hope one day similar things like this can be seen on Thai TV and nobody responsible have to disappear afterwards.

    If you read one Canadian book this year let it be Talking to Canadians by Rick Mercer. I grew up watching Rick from time to time and never really realized how special he is. But now I have a newfound love for the guy. He is a true Canadian role model.

      Despite Rick being rather real in the segment, that’s the one part where he’s out of his mind. If the governor general even lose a toe out of line there is typically a political crisis. Australia’s 1975 Constitutional Crisis being exhibit A and the King-Bing affair being exhibit B

      +Brad Johnson
      THAT is correct.
      In fact, "constitutionally" the Brits can depose the monarch & become a full Republic ..
      ... even then, QE II would still remain the *Queen of Canada* (_she probably would have to move here or Australia_... LOL!)

      Viennery No, the Commonwealth is a separate concept. Republics can be in the commonwealth.
      ***** Explained well, Elizabeth II is the Queen of Canada and the Queen of England, but the Queen of England is not Canada's queen, make sense?
      Think about it this way, I could be the CEO two companies, Canada Corp and England Corp. Being simultaneously the CEO of two companies does not mean England Corp owns Canada Corp any more than Canada Corp owns England Corp. Even though the CEO of both companies is the same physical person.

    • @xazlx

      If my dad is the Police Chief and the Fire chief, and someone asks me who is the Fire chief, and I reply the Police Chief, is that wrong? As the Queen of England and the Queen of Canada are by tradition and likely by law currently one and the same person, isn’t the current Queen of England whether or not England becomes a full republic sometime in the future also the Queen of Canada? If so wouldn’t either designation as well as the Queen of whatever else she may be queen of, be a valid designation? Once England becomes a full republic that designation would no longer hold true as when my dad retires as the Police chief.

      YES, SHE HOLDS THE TITLE ,,, BUT IT IS A CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCHY , ONLY !!! Canada is a Sovereign Nation .. Makes her own decisions etc. As all Commonwealth Nations do ...Canada ,only pays homage constitutionaly , lip service to the Crown ,, but Canada , also belongs , to the British Commonwealth of Nations .. Which includes many Nations World -wide .. Its a strong Commonwealth .. And in a 150 years the Bonds between these Nations has never been broken .... Canada has many Bonds with other Nations across the World that do not belong to the Commonwealth .. Holland , Belgium , who the Canadians Liberated , at great losses & to this very day those Countries Honour Canada & the thousands of Canadians that gave their lives for them & remain & lie buried in their grounds .. So let's not get too carried away here :))) Canada has Served the World well .. And never asked a thing back !!! Basically in the 60's & 70's we were for years , Peace Keepers , UNTIL we threw our lot in with the U.SA. We have always been there for them , in their Crisis's etc. ..UNTIL changes were made , but ,,one sometimes has to give their head a shake at what our neighbours are doing .. We Will & WILL Continue to remain Loyal as Friends , but , oh !! One does not want to get shafted , as it is unfortunatley being Economically done to us ... Fair Trade ??? Well , Fair Trade or the Word "Fair" , means , Every One Should get a piece of the Sausage , not JUST The Who One Cry & Whimper , OR BULLY !! if they don't get 85 % of it .. Give & Take , SHOULD BE THE NAME OF THE GAME !! A real Deal-maker or Negotiator should know how to make it work !! So all walk away satisfied !!

    Thank you for your rendition of our political system; you make it sound so ridiculous, which it is. Has anyone ever sat back and looked into the amount of money it takes to keep this morinic Democracy system ticking; I,ll bet you it's in the billions of dollars. No wonder we have such a deficit. If we were to take in all of our elections, the cost of MP's, MLA's, Civic leaders, government services, excluding law enforcement and other essential services, but embracing foreign councels - our country would be pretty well off. Proroguing government has been used too often and is not subject to holding our politicians to account, but if they were not being paid for the same period it would be a hard lesson for them to learn and tey would use it more wisely and wouldn't be as flippant about it.

      Do you have any idea what a huge pain in the ass that would be? I would much rather our elected representatives spend their time governing the country well, than carefully rewriting hundred year old documents to remove all references to the Queen and wasting a several million dollars holding a referendum.

    • @GuruJudge21
      @GuruJudge21 6 лет назад

      Gabe wasn't insulting immigrants, Jay. He was saying that he took issue that new Canadian citizens had to swear an oath to the Queen.
      What else is the government doing? Going on vacation and lying? It wouldn't be that hard to change and we're going to have to do it all again anyway when Elizabeth dies and her son takes the crown and we have to change all the "Queen" and "Her Majesty" to "King" and "His Majesty".

    • @agilemind6241
      @agilemind6241 6 лет назад +1

      No because people weren't that stupid when they wrote the constitution etc.. all the reference to the monarch use both genders already. And yes it would be that hard to change because it requires changing the constitution which requires unanimous consent of the provinces some of which have laws requiring referendums for their approval of significant changes to the constitution - and that is before you get into the whole "Quebec never approved the current constitution" debacle and have to deal with all those extra negotiations (see Meech Lake Accord and Charlottetown Accords to see how well that has gone in the past).
      There is still an on going court case challenging Harper's change to the rules of succession of the Monarchy to treat male and female heirs equally - and that is a change that has broad approval among Canadians. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/quebec-court-appeal-royal-succession-law-1.4541398

    • @GuruJudge21
      @GuruJudge21 6 лет назад

      It does not. It says 'Queen' throughout the whole thing. I even believed you at first, but I looked it up on the Government's site and then I looked up the physical document. It says Queen throughout the whole thing from 1867 to 1982. Maybe I'm ignorant, and every document I've seen is filling in a blank where it says [Insert Gender Appropriate Monarchial Title] or it says 'Queen'. So, unless Canada wants to be officially ruled by Charle's wife, we're going to have to change it.
      Yes, there would be a political debacle. The Canadian Government is seemingly incapable of doing anything simply. What I am saying is it that it wouldn't be actually difficult to do, just annoying to get started.
      Or maybe it would be harder, considering the BNA Act is apparently still in Britain.
      Obviously, the rights of succession should be cognatic, it'd only be sexist not to. That's something that really doesn't matter since the direct heirs are all men. I support that change and I want the monarchy abolished.

    That's most likely either an issue with your provincial government (who has the freedom to dictate curriculum) or else an issue within your specific school/teacher... I've lived in two different provinces (BC and Alberta) and have gone to a public high school in one and both a public and private high school in the other and sure, there are differences in intensity, but you definitely do get the opportunity to learn. You get out of it what you put in into it...

    Canada was never part of the USA. During the civil war the British loyalists fled northwards, to Canada (mostly Upper Canada) while the French held lower Canada. Canada was only ever part of the English and French Empires, and the French lost Lower Canada so it all became British. The USA did try to take over but lost the war of 1812 against The British (with minor aid from Canadian Militias, much more aid came from Indians but for their good work we stuck them in 3rd world reserves. Go Canada!)

    @incarnedine D&D reference? If you mean the ceremonial mace it represents the Queen's authority. All power comes from the monarch but is entrusted to parliament. It is a symbol of that trust. It is brought in at the start of a session of parliment and taken out at the end of the day. Oh and disrespecting the mace can get you kicked out of parliament until you apologize.

However there are some differences: Canada has a higher rate of property crime, such as break ins and car theft and arson, than the U.S., around 30% higher, however the U.S. has four times more homicides per capita than canada, and has more robberies than canada ( I believe it was 11% more robberies). @AkivaII These are still not a prediction... You just reduce to scale to deal with microeconomics rather than the full pictures. You still finish with an estimation within a certain margin : just like the meteorologist does (max of, min of) rather than the climatologist... Except that the meteorologist and climatologist have one big advantage : it's easier to collect data with meteo than with economic, and the statistical&mathematical tools are rather similar.

    International laws (where my opinion is based) regarding this matter is a little gray/confusing. What is clear though; when military vessels are attacked out of port, the attack it considered indirect. Any attack on civilian vessels own and/or operated by the said country (ie Canada) is considered a direct attack only if it happens in the said country's waters. If a military vessel is attack tied up in port & is attacked, the attack is considered direct, ie the attack of Pearl Harbor.

    @DigoGcontaeanChlair we don't sing God Save the queen...where did you find this? Though we don't have a single national identity (we are a diverse), in times of crisis we stand together.Diversity allows us to tolerate and understand each other thus allowing us to have an open mind and not a narrow one. So what if SOME of our areas are cold? We have tons of natural resources and many natives up live there and have been for thousands of years! if you don't like the cold, then live in the south!

    @ShayisWY The external debt for the US is 14 trillion dollars, far from below average. Canada, in comparison, has half a trillion in external debt. Individual debt (which doesn't even take individual assets into account) and province debt aren't nearly as relevant to the relative stability of a country as national debt.

    @kambadandyj Actually, he need only be leader of the party with the most seats in the house. He could be a senator, a private citizen or something else(except dead, I don't think they will let him continue if he's dead-unless he rly rly wanted to ;P). Usually if a party wins but the leader loses another member will step down so the leader can run in a by-election but its not a requirement. I think Chretien had to do this once.

    No question, however keep in mind, Canada was British at that point... the regiments who did the fighting were Canadian Regiments. Part of the reason the war of 1812 ended was after the Napoleonic wars came to a close, the regular british army units became available and the US didn't want to have to face them. The British didn't want to endure the cost of sending them overseas, so they signed a peace treaty putting the borders back to where they were pre-war.

    @doublescotchonice No problem. Thankyou for understanding my perspective on America. I really find this county's history to be interesting, conflicting, and admirable all together like all countries. Even though some Americans are biased and rude, and our country is having alot of economic problems because we have politicians who don't seem to know what exactly to do. I really wanted you to realize that there are some people out there trying to make things better. So thankyou for understanding.

    @ShayisWY Checking the National Debt Clocks for both countries: Canada debt = 560 billion. USA debt = 14 trillion. Even if you take an average over each state (50) vs province (10 if you stick to the definition) you're still wrong.
    Even the share per citizen is about $30,000 lower for Canadians. ($46k USA vs $16.35k Canada)

    I for one am happy to retain ties with Britain. It is apart of our history, and our British heritage is what separates us from Americans and should never be severed.
    As for WW2. Canada's pumped out ammunition, food, and vehicles for the British war effort. Our navy kept the Atlantic shipping lanes open, allowing for both Canadian and US aid to Britian (although the US was not involved in the war untill 1941, they did send aid to England prior to '41).

    P.S. the stanley cup final isnt Canada vs Usa. Both teams have americans and canadians playing of them. The Boston Bruins (winners) have 21 canadians on their roster only 7 americans. Vancouver Canucks have 23 canadians 6 americans. So the game was basically canada vs canada.
