  • Discover the fascinating history of Australian Camp, originally known as 'Thulo Kharka,' meaning 'big pasture.' This serene spot was once a seasonal grazing area for buffalo and cow herders from villages below Dhampus. Until the early 90s, it remained relatively unknown to trekkers, even though the nearby Phedi - Dhampus - Pothana - Deurali - Landruk - Chhomrong route to the Annapurna Base Camp was already popular. The camp is just a 15-minute detour to the west of this trail. Legend has it that in the late 80s, a group from Austria stumbled upon this beautiful location. They were captivated by its tranquility and stunning mountain views, leading them to camp there for days. The locals, finding 'Austrian Camp' difficult to pronounce, began calling it 'Australian Camp,' a name that has stuck ever since. Watch this video to explore the rich history and breathtaking beauty of Australian Camp.
