I saw an update for iKaossilator for iOS that includes a little bit of interoperability between it and the Kaossilator 2. Loops imported from either to the other retain their metadata including loop length and BPM.
* Saving to card is great, but when I save 8 beat loops I only get back the first half of each one. I hope they'll fix that with software upgrade soon. And by the way, 8 beats per loop might be an even greater limitation than the original Kaossilator's because in the original you can actually have 16 beats mode if you turn it on with TAP and BPM buttons pressed. You do get the BPM, key, scale and range settings saved along with loops, which is convenient.
* The pad is 2/3 the size of the original, and it CAN'T be played with an ordinary stylus or a fingernail. It is only meant to be played with the fingertip, which is hard to do accurately (though I'm trying, it's still fun). On the other, you can choose the range (1 to 4 octaves) for the pad, and its surface feels much smoother and sturdier and it doesn't seem to bend and get dents from less careful handling. The note being played is on the display, which makes it a bit easier to play it.
i have both the KO and the KO2. it is my feeling that the KO2 is inferior in general, because many features are not well thought through. for example, there is no easy UNDO feature when recording a loop. you can't delete loops. you can't write, but still read when the battery is low. there are more issues I wish I could contact Korg for, but they appear to be unreachable (I tried my regional contact, but they didn't even respond).
* The internal microphone is fine except that it seems to be rather noisy and it's very hard to sample anything without clicking noise from the buttons. * It has the option to support Ni-MH accumulators in the settings, but it actually doesn't work well with the heavy-duty ones that work for me perfectly elsewhere (2700 mAh), I only get about 2--3 hours (with the battery indicator going down to only half charge) before it just suddenly doesn't turn on any longer, which is inconvenient.
could you do a refx nexus 2 physical review. I'm thinking of buying it but I'm not sure if this is something for me. I have not found a single review of the physical synth module. this would have helped me a lot :)
Great review as always, hoping you cover the minikp2 as well! Keen on buying either a minikp2 or kpquad, but can't quite decide... Recording performances and playing mp3's is a pretty huge drawcard!
looks pretty cool, did you have any trouble, like with having to press function over and over again, that would make confusing or did it seem more intuitive?
Excellent constructive criticism, thanks for the additional info. I must say, when I saw "max. 8 beats" during Nick's review I was disappointed. An odd limitation given that it has a memory card slot. Even the max. of 16 beats on my Kaossilator PRO can be limiting at times.
* Despite 50 more programs overall, many lovely sounds from the original Kaossilator are not there. There's only a couple programs that do "electric talking" or "electric screaming", nothing like the lovely sound of CH54 or SE75. Overall sound seems darker and harsher. Though the leads got much more character and structure, and there are some nice new programs. Still, I doubt that it's possible to create anything resembling The Yellow Album in spirit on KO-2.
Great independent review . Others I saw were from Korg advertising but I can't find information on the mic input. is it line in level, stereo. Could you add an external synth line over the top of a loop and record that too. It's near Christmas and these are now less than £100 so an attractive gift to put on my wish list
Great review - was looking forward to this! Video is a little flashy around 6:50-7:00... not a huge problem but Ive been having migraines lately and I kinda went - Woah! :) Off to enter the competition now! Looks like a really fun product!
I've actually got this thing a couple of weeks ago having ordered it as soon as it became available (serial number in the video is 456, mine is 1117), and while it is a lot of fun and much easier to carry around in the pocket, for me it was a disappointment compared to the original Kaossilator. Let me elaborate:
Nice work as always. You manage to strike a good balance between good demo'ing, information and entertainment! That said there's a couple of qualms. First off that damned built in speaker! How many products/good ideas will Korg continue to ruin with that useless piece of garbage? And why always fecesbook? Have people/groups/businesses completely lost the ability to stage anything on their own? Need i remind you about the dangers of such dependency, particularly to unscrupulous parties such as FB
When you have it in your hand, it feels like something you really want to play with.
hi Nick there is a setting for different battery types ie nicad, lithuim son so forth could help with the eating batteries issue fyi

What's happening with the flashing video?
but wil it blend?
If i want to check out a new device i always first search at YT if you've already done a review. Always very interesting and entertaining. Thanks.
No problem sir! No headache and if there was - such a fun, in depth SonicState review is worth it :)
Wow, thats a little strange not sure why that happened. sorry for the headache.

I'm only a bit late - can I still enter to win???

Its kinda small... couldnt the same thing be done with iOS app?

What's your mutli camera setup - do you use a live mixer for the dual presentation shows?

Did you die?
So the obvious question, is there an app for that? ;)
NICE I've been waiting on this one!
We use canon vixia hf100 x3
@ 0:12 "Stay tuned for a chance to with this Kaossilator2"
"with this"? :P

Already exists, called the iKaossilator.
Don’t buy it...buttons always break....
Mine has been fine, had it for years now. Would love to see re-wrapped in a vocla case as a dual looper with sync :)
