    Fast enough to keep me focused (I have ADD, so slow stuff makes my mind wander).

    Really nice video! And I was surprised I wasn’t a subscriber yet. This series on the mpc is really good to clarify things I already knew or didn’t know so well. It would be nice if you did a video at some point (hopefully sooner than later hehe) on a workflow that involves starting on the mpc and finishing om Ableton or even better one that uses the two together. I have the ableton push 2 as well and because I’m more proficient on that I tend to ignore the mpc but I want to use it more and I think I already made some really good beats there as well - specially one where I used it with an analog four a friend had lent me for a while.

    Thank you for the content it was very helpful to me and I’m sure many others. If I may through out 2 questions to my fellow MPC users.
    1. The short question is how does the sequence event copy operate? I’ve been trying to combine multiple sequences into one and adding bars to the sequence anywhere within it and building that way within one sequence.
    2. Can we automate in anyway a sequence bpm or global bpm (so the sequence plays back that bpm manipulation? I know the MPC has an LFO so was thinking maybe modulating the BPM with it if that’s possible😂.
    Thanks all and happy creating!

    • @OllieLoops
      @OllieLoops  3 месяца назад

      1. The MPC hierarchy is important in understanding how to work with the device. Notes live in sequences which live in projects. Notes can be copied and pasted with a sequence to duplicate them and make the sequence longer. And sequences can be copied to new sequences.
      2. I’m not sure that the MPC has automated bpm changes. Sequences may be subject to the project BPM.

    I'm seriously considering buying one of these. I'm a drummer and picked up some new toys. I feel like this would be really handy to help me build samples for my external triggering software. My question for you is this: can you play a metronome in your ears without it going through FOH. This is really important in a live setting. My only other comment is that they really should have out an XLR in with a mic preamp on the unit. Is there any products out there that have these features? Is this truly standalone? I appreciate what you do btw!! Thanks for looking out for the little guys.

    • @OllieLoops
      @OllieLoops  3 года назад +1

      Hey, thanks for your comment and questions. You can route the metronome to any of the outputs, not just the main outs. The outputs are balanced 1/4" TRS. To get an XLR out, you just need a 1/4" TRS to XLR cable. For a mic in, you just need a mic preamp and run it into the MPC's input. There are very few products with these features, and none with all of these features. Its very much standalone. I hope that answers your questions. Good luck!

    I'm a beginner and I don't quite understand what overdubbing is and how it differentiates from just recording. What is its purpose?

    • @OllieLoops
      @OllieLoops  3 года назад +2

      Great question. Here’s a quick explanation. Recording means the track will only contain the newly recorded notes and the track is scrubbed clean from any previous material in the process. You have a new fresh recording. In overdubbing, material is layered both new and existing. Say you record some kicks on a track and you want to keep them. You would overdub to record the next layer, say snares. If you were to record instead, it would wipe the kicks from the track when you record the snares. Hope that helps.

    Great video. I'm trying to better understand how audio tracks work in detail. For example; I create a sequence with an audio track then copy the sequence and the audio track is also copied (as expected). There is strange behaviour if I want to add to that track. If I create a new audio track and then go back to the previous sequence, I can add more to that second audio track because it is not already in the first sequence however I can't seem to add to track 1 in sequence 2. There is some subtle behaviour that I don't quite understand.

    Dear Sir, I am Fusion/Jazz-Rock guitar and bass player and I play with my friend drummer. So our music is absolutly not hip hop, R'n'B, Techno... We play Jazz-Rock music with patterns and I would like to know if the MPC Live 1 or 2 are the right choise for us to create and compose music ? And is it also the right tool to play music on stage ?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Phil from Dunkirk

    • @OllieLoops
      @OllieLoops  4 года назад +1

      Hey Phil, thanks for your comment. Although the MPC devices are often used in hip hop and EDM, it is by no means the extent of the device. An MPC is quite powerful and flexible and musicians of all kinds can use it for a range of genres. I even saw John Mayer using an MPC Live 1. It’s one of the best drum machine / samplers on the market primarily because it has a robust and intuitive workflow. It can be used in live performance, but know that you will likely have to switch project files which takes 5-10 seconds to switch between songs. That’s probably the biggest negative for live performance which some users may not mind. Additionally, the drum pads are a plus to those who wish to finger drum both during composition and in live performance. I hope that helps!

    Ollie, I really want to understand if the Live/ Live II/ One can work as a live looper. For example I want to play and loop live percussion along with sequences of kit, bass, etc. A demo video with just an egg shaker would be awesome.

    • @OllieLoops
      @OllieLoops  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for your comment. I have a similar video for the Deluge’s looper. But to your question, the MPCs have a looper feature built in. I haven’t try it yet, but I know it’s there and it’s on my list. I’ll see if I can make a video about it. In the mean time, I would suggest checking out the manual and seeing if the looping feature is something you could use. I hope that helps.

    Seems very DAW like. Are the built in synths any good compared to high quality vsts or not really? How is the note editing process on such a small screen? It looks like it could be a bit of a pain. Do you have a video on that? I'm unsure of whether to just get a big pen tablet monitor for Ableton live or go with an MPX X.

    • @OllieLoops
      @OllieLoops  4 года назад +1

      It is very DAW like. The built in synth engines are descent and useable. There is plenty sound design potential to them. The screen is nice. Editing notes on it is easy. The touch screen makes everything fast. If you compare it to previous MPCs, it’s a big advancement. If you compare it to other sequencers, it’s more intuitive and robust then most devices on the market. If you compare it to a tablet, it’s about the same experience but at least you have dedicated buttons. Is it better than Ableton, I’m not sure about that. But it is a standalone solution that is proven and robust. I would suggest trying one in person if you can. I hope that helps.

  • @fcf8269
    @fcf8269 3 года назад

    You say in the video that 1 project can hold 128 sequences, but how many tracks may you have per sequence? Are sequences like Ableton live clips for examples? Or are tracks more like Ableton clips? Trying to figure out if this may work as replacement for Ableton Live, or if maybe the Force is a better device for such workflow. Thanks.

    • @OllieLoops
      @OllieLoops  3 года назад +1

      You can have 128 midi tracks and 8 audio tracks per sequence. Ableton is kind of it’s own thing, or at least a modern interpretation of a DAW. Force is the closest MPC to Ableton. MPCs structure haven’t changed much since the 80s. Sequences are like groups of patterns. Tracks are similar to Ableton’s tracks. And clips can be thought of like individual patterns within a track. A row of clips could be thought of as a sequence. The next row is the next sequence. It’s similar in that sense. I hope that helps.

    • @fcf8269
      @fcf8269 3 года назад

      @@OllieLoops It does; I was trying to figure out if there were relevance between the clips/track concept in Ableton, and the sequences

    • @OllieLoops
      @OllieLoops  3 года назад +1

      Cool. Yeah, just in the way I explained it. Tracks are tracks. Clips are patterns. You can only have one clip playing per track. Rows/scenes are sequences. The big difference with Ableton is that clips can play out of sequence from each other (not just within the row) and have different time signatures while the MPC is more limiting in this capacity. With the MPC workflow, each sequence is like it’s own arrangement. Tracks are the same, but patterns can’t play out of sequence. It’s a bit confusing, sequences in MPC are like their own container, but in Ableton that container is essentially not there. This can be seen as a limitation, but MPC makes up for this because you can export your patterns and reuse them in other sequences and projects (just like in Ableton). I hope that helps.

    • @OllieLoops
      @OllieLoops  3 года назад

      I think what you are looking for are patterns within a sequence. You would have one or more patterns for drums and same for vocal chops, for example. Only one sequence can play at a time, but a sequence can contain 128 patterns which can play at once. I hope that helps.

      @@OllieLoops ahh thanks for the update. I just didn't want to spend $60 on one. I was going to search google or something for a cheaper price.

    Hi, by mistake I deleted the files in the internal storage of mpc live. Could someone please help me to restore it or let me know where and how to download and install them?

    • @OllieLoops
      @OllieLoops  Год назад +1

      You can download the latest software update from AkaiPro.com. See if you can run a firmware update which should restore it. Otherwise, you may need to send it to them to reinstall the software. Good luck!

    How can I record multiple tracks
    With mx 61 without changing the previous track.
    On the mpc live

    • @OllieLoops

      You should be able to arm multiple tracks at once and assign them to different controllers. This will allow you to record to them without changing tracks. Check out my Connecting Midi Devices video for more info. I hope that helps!

    Unfortunately, the MPC is terribly bugged. Comfortable work is not possible. Akai doesn't fix their bugs.
    There is no official support from Akai on these issues. Dont buy it.

      Thanks Cody for your comment. Is there a particular bug that you're having an issue with. I'm just curious. Also, I've had good success with their customer service department. I would recommend calling them.

      @@OllieLoops standard MPC issues like wrong pad assignments, silence when audio is bounced, problems with pad progressions, qlinks change the beginning of the sample when accidentaly touched...
      I know it's probably a sponsored video. But try to use MPC for a few days and you will run into a lot of problems that destroy your music making pleasure.
