I’m a Bengali Londoner, so I’ll explain from a foreign and a native perspective. What Bangladeshis consider to be “touristy” isn’t necessarily what foreigners would consider exciting hotspots. Remember most have never been outside their state, let alone the country. They’ll tell you about Jaflong, slightly interesting but you’ll get bored within an hour or so; Tea gardens, you’ll get bored after 10mins; Shah Jalal Manzr, don’t bother and you’ll only get frustrated by the beggars. See the pattern? Ratargul swamp forest is probably your best bet of all the places especially during the monsoon (which I believe might still be on). Where Sylhet really shines however, is village rural life - though only interesting if you’re into that kind of thing. My British mates are begging me to take them and spend a week in a Sylhet village! Naturally you’re primary interest is viewership numbers, but other than Ratargul or maybe a river boat ride, there aren't many interesting places in Sylhet for that. But get out of the town centre, it’s boring as f. P.S Not gonna lie, at first I thought you were just another plonker from London here for the hits, but you are kind of growing on me 😆
Oh and keep your ear open, you'll hear proper Londoner accents in the main town (especially in the better hotels). The vast majority of British Bengalis are from Sylhet and they visit back regularly. You'll spot them in the street by their dress sense; how you'd expect a typical plonker in London would dress😆. In fact Sylhet is nicknamed 'Second London' in Bangladesh because of this reason. The two cities are so connected, there are two flights to and from Sylhet-London every day, and the only International destination available from Sylhet airport. You can kind of consider yourself an honorary Sylheti! EDIT: Saw you mention the British Bangladeshis after. No bro there's almost a million of us 3rd/4th generation British born and buttered. But you're not likely to find them in those small alleyways. Come on bro that's like taking a walking in a council estate in the UK and asking yourself, 'why is everyone so poor, I thought London was rich.'
You’re a real one for this bro, this is exactly what I needed! Ratargul swamp definitely and can you recommend me a village to go to around here, I’ve done some rural village life in other countries and it’s one of my favourite things to do! Hey, Sam! I’m not Bangladeshi or Bengali, but I’ve always been fascinated by Bangladesh. I came across your videos while searching for travel content about Bangladesh on RUclips. Initially, I was more interested in India, but there was one particular video I watched about Bangladesh that truly caught my attention. I think I’ve watched almost every travel video about the country-it’s crazy! This is actually my first time commenting about it. I know I haven’t set foot in Bangladesh, but after watching so many videos, I can understand why it’s one of the least visited countries in the world. Yes, the chaotic energy and the friendliness of the people really interest me, and I’d love to experience it for myself. But when it comes to natural beauty, I feel like Bangladesh falls short. Their tourist spots don’t seem to offer much that would be especially fun or interesting. They’re often in very specific locations, and the surrounding areas don’t have much else to do besides that particular attraction. Anyway, I really like your vibe. You’re not one of those travel vloggers who exaggerates just to get views. Keep being real and authentic. Enjoy your travels, and stay safe out there, Sam!
This was really nice to read/hear , thanks so much for that mate, I’m glad you feel that way about me and my content. What’s the interest for you with Bangladesh? I’m in Goa India now and it’s really good so far, I didn’t know I was gunna like it this much
@samregan You're welcome, mate. Just like India, which was the first country I became interested in visiting, Bangladesh has now caught my attention with its vibrant and chaotic energy. Coming from a peaceful island in the Philippines, watching videos of these two countries has opened my eyes to a world that's bustling, lively, and full of surprises. The contrast between the serene life I know and the dynamic, intense atmosphere of these places is fascinating-it’s like a journey into another world where life moves at a thrilling, almost electrifying pace. I'm not quite sure why, but I find myself drawn more to countries like India and Bangladesh than the typical first-world destinations, except maybe Switzerland and Italy. There’s something about the vibrant cultures and raw, authentic experiences in India and Bangladesh that really pulls me in. These places seem to offer a level of excitement, craziness and immersion that’s just different from the polished, predictable feel of many developed countries. It’s almost as if they hold a certain energy and I can't wait to experience it all firsthand.

@@samregan 👍 also if you have time go deep in to the villages where you will see amazing rural life. Try Khadimnagar national park and its surrounding areas. If I was in Sylhet would have shown you some amazing places. Just be careful though Bangladesh doesn’t have a proper government at the moment so there’s loads of uncertainty, travel around during daylight to be in the safe side. If you go out at night stay in town centre or busier areas. After Sylhet if you can visit Barishal and Coxs Bazar or St Martins.

Most people visit Srimangal when they go to Sylhet. It's an hour and a half ride from Sylhet City. A small city with tea gardens, lakes and waterfalls. Visit Noorjahan Tea Estate, Madhavpur Lake, Lauachora Rain Forrest, and Khasia Punji in Srimangal. Have tea in Neelkantha Tea Cabin in Radhanagar, Srimangal. Go for Lemon Tea or Masala tea rather than "famous Seven layers tea". seven layers is overrated. Best. In Sylhet check out Ratargul Swamp forest and Lakkatura Tea Garden. Sam, I am sorry you had a bad experience in Sylhet. You are the first travel vlogger who hated Sylhet after comparing with other cities in Bangladesh. Perhaps you could have done some research of where you needs to visit. If you are still in Sylhet, I would recommend you to watch some of the videos of Jason Billam's on Sylhet. Sylhet town itself is not very nice. The scenic areas are quite far from the town. You have to rent a car or CNG for the whole day to visit those areas as they are on the Indian border. Must visit Sada Pathor otherwise visiting Sylhet is worthless. There is a little boat ride at the end to reach Sada Pathor. Would have been better if could join a group, they might help you to guide. On your way back, give a go to Sreemongol Tea Gardens. Visit BTRI and request Dr. Shameem to show their tea research plots and grab a bag of their garden fresh Orthodox Tea. Have a nice adventure!
Many travel vloggers have visited Sylhet and enjoyed it a lot. You should hire a travel guide, bro. Randomly searching won't help you find anything, and it could create a negative vibe for both you and the viewers.
I hear u mate but most travel vloggers lie to keep people happy, try to find a video of those guys saying they don’t like a place and you won’t be able to. I’ve googled what to do in this area and there’s 2/3 things that look interesting to me but apart from that it’s just not my kind of place
Thank you for coming to Bangladesh. Very sorry to say that you are not able to enjoy it properly !😞 It would have been nice to have a guide, he would have put you in a good position. The big problem of our country is that there are more people and if there are too many people, the environment does not look that beautiful or it becomes a little difficult to keep it clean. Why are the people of Bangladesh so weak in English? The reason is that in our country's education system, English is only taught as a rote subject, but as a student, its practical verification has never been done.In education in Bangladesh, English is taught in a Gramatic way, not a practical way. Personally I think you should visit university places in Bangladesh it will make you feel better and you will feel better.Of course, it's a laugh, but what kind of video or atmosphere do you expect about people or people? I will suggest some nice places, Rajshahi,Cox's Bazar (You will feel better if you have a guide with you ) Move carefully. There are many mischievous circles around who can harass. May Allah bless you!!
okay, i’m going to be completely honest with you, but you should not have gotten out of your hotel without researching at all. yes, today was bad for you because you visited places of business. these people are going to work, school, or going shopping, and it’s not for tourists to sightsee if they wanna be wowed. there are definitely some places in the city which are very enjoyable, but you have to know where they are. but, i will say, RIGHT outside of the city are places which your mind will be blown. please visit them if you wish for an enjoyable experience. also i feel it was very negligible that you didn’t at least learn very simple phrases. please know that this is feedback and i’m not at all trying to be disrespectful. -Bangladeshi-Canadian 🇧🇩🇨🇦

Very sorry to say that you are not able to enjoy it properly !😞
It would have been nice to have a guide, he would have put you in a good position.
I will suggest some nice places, Rajshahi,Cox's Bazar (You will feel better if you have a guide with you )
Move carefully. There are many mischievous circles around who can harass.
May Allah bless you!!
hey brother 🙂

Hi,🖐️😊🇧🇩
okay, i’m going to be completely honest with you, but you should not have gotten out of your hotel without researching at all. yes, today was bad for you because you visited places of business. these people are going to work, school, or going shopping, and it’s not for tourists to sightsee if they wanna be wowed. there are definitely some places in the city which are very enjoyable, but you have to know where they are. but, i will say, RIGHT outside of the city are places which your mind will be blown. please visit them if you wish for an enjoyable experience. also i feel it was very negligible that you didn’t at least learn very simple phrases. please know that this is feedback and i’m not at all trying to be disrespectful. -Bangladeshi-Canadian 🇧🇩🇨🇦
