This was released at the height of both the pandemic AND all the civil unrest. VERY perfectly timed. It's OK to call them a band. That's what they call themselves!
They released this in the middle of lockdown in the US during the pandemic. The Mitch + Matt harmonies put me over the edge. I was home alone and bawled my eyes out.
I’m going to echo some other comments about checking out their Imagine cover… it is so beautiful and so powerful! Same with their version of Amazing Grace/My Chains Are Gone!!
Even the group agrees with you. Not only have they said multiple times in interviews that Mitch is the best singer in the group (Matt said at a Meet and Greet that Mitch is the best singer in the world with his level of control and ability to sing consistently amazing every single song) but they've also been asked if they could switch places with one of the other group members, who would they choose. The answer by all of them is always Mitch. When asked if they were a fan, who would their favorite member be, the answer is still Mitch. Not just for his voice, but because he is interesting, unique, and has that ability to capture your heart and soul with his voice, eyes, and facial expressions. He is extremely gifted and I hope and pray he doesn't waste that gift like so many other talented people have when they've lost their way after becoming famous.
Yeah, Mitch grabs your heart and soul, definitely. This is one of my favourite PTX covers, thanks for reacting to it! Love how much you love them, after your initial scepticism (your first PTX reaction is one of my faves!). Stay safe!
Clearly part of their genius is putting the right voices in the right places. I love how Kirstie's part (female voice) after the 5 of them singing together just hammers the point of the song home.
AAAAAAAH!!! LOVE this cover. I've been a MASSIVE TEARS FOR FEARS fan since early 80s & seen them live. The harmonies are bang on. I need more PENTATONIX in my life. AWESOME
I find it kinda funny, and I find it kinda sad, that every time you say "the original version" YOU mean the Donnie Darko version, and not the actual original by Tears for Fears. Which, if you watch THAT video, will confuse the heck out of you because it's sung at about twice the speed you're used to, and sounds weirdly upbeat techno, while still clearly about anxiety and depression. The Pentatonix version is magnificent. And the video is unique and brilliant in its own right. Thanks for reacting to it. Was just looking at your playlists and boy, do you have a lot of Pentatonix to go. You've only watched five so far. I'm really looking forward to future reactions as you work your way through their catalog. Of the customary "must watch ASAP" you've only done "Sound of Silence." You really NEED to watch Hallelujah, Daft Punk Medley and Bohemian Rhapsody. That's the absolute minimum for beginning the journey. After that there's so many directions you can go - 10 years worth of covers and originals. Their most recent album "The Lucky Ones" is absolutely superb, every single song, though not many have music videos yet. But even if all you have is their "visualizer" the songs are worth the time.
PTX at their masterful best. As brilliant as they are individually, it’s when they come together that they are at their best. Definitely more than the sum of their parts! Thanks for posting.
I entered a medical facility to continue my journey of detoxing off of pain medication and there was a music class that played this at my request because it had come out during that period of my life. It was the end of a dark journey for me...and this song brought back the light because of the beauty of this arrangement. The message can be interpreted in many different ways, such as his reaction here being a positive sound, it's breathtaking!!!!
Your comments on this song were just spot on! And, of course, they apply to many of their other songs as well. Can't remember if you have already done it or not, but "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" really brings forth their harmony skills.
Great reaction! Pentatonix never disappoints. If you want to hearAvi being bada$$, react to their version of Kiiara's Gold. If you want to hear Matt being a bada$$ react to New Rules x Are You That Somebody...of course Kevin is fantastic in both songs.
Mitch is my favorite, so I always watch him first, but then I go back and rewatch the videos just to see Kevin, Avi or Matt do their thing. It blows my mind every time, especially on Daft Punk and Gold. Even way back on Royals, when Avi steps out and drops that first bass note, chills for days. Problem is a good one to watch them on, too. But actually, every song is remarkable because of the way they work together.
The first time I actually liked this song when was Adam Lambert sang it on American Idol and slowed it down very similar to this. In this video, I love when Matt comes in with that first bass note--so chilling. Not only does Mitch reach into your soul with his eyes and expressions but in Kirstie's final solo, her eyes and side smile just melt my heart. Great video and a great reaction from you. Thank you.
I think of all of them as individual sticks of dynamite that any one of them could explode into the music world individually and be a huge success. But when they get together they are f%&$ing NUCLEAR ! Hence, we have the “Wall of Sound” that is unparalleled by anyone else I’ve ever heard! And I’ve heard a LOT, I’m almost 70.
I love the little side smile by her when I see it on any video, but in this one because of the song and the line she is singing, the side smile is almost sinister, and that is just as cool to see, the song changes the looks meaning to me, that is getting the point across.
I enjoyed your reaction to this amazing Pentatonix cover. Thank you. They refer to themselves as a band so you were right at first. Others have made great suggestions already so I'll wait to make suggestions at a later date. More Pentatonix reactions soon please.
Posted during lockdown, was one of two perfect songs that summed up 2020. The other was their song Thank You from their Christmas CD in 2020. Thank You made me ugly cry.
Hard to believe that this was originally a peppy upbeat song from the 80's (1982) by Tears to Fears before Gary Jules reimaged it in 2001(?) and slowed it down into the heavy emotional tone that it is now.
They took the depth of depression of the Donnie Darko version and expressed the pain, anxiety and frustration behind it while still keeping the dark, self-deprecating humor that's common among folks with functional depression. That's the irony of the Tears for Fears original- dark words juxtaposed with upbeat music hiding dark undertones, flats and occasional uncomfortable chords. Sort of saying, "This is our mask. We know we're not right, but can still find humor in our own hurt."
If you have not listened to Imagine please do. You might try originals Sing, Love Again and Coffee in Bed. Can’t Hold Us ( Macklemore and Ryan Lewis) is fantastic. The Grinch is a great one to see Matt the bass shine. Holiday songs try Little Drummer Boy and Oh Come All Ye Faithful.
Happy Friday Tom !😎 P.S. I'm a rock & metal guy.....love PTX....can't help it.... on another note, I hope, is it Sara or Sarah, has been able to experience Sohyang ?
Yo TNT! I couldn't tell, were you saying obviously or Avi-ously? 😜 As to Mitch, he's Avi-ously incredible but Kirsten is my "Mitch" in the group. 😉 Maybe it's because I've been on a female vocalist kick lately with Floor, Lzzy Hale, Melody (Liliac) etc and all the killer Japanese vocalists. Another great react sir, carry on!
Knowing what a Mitch fan you are, I just found this and thought you might enjoy it. It's "What is this Feeling" from Wicked - ruclips.net/video/g1DL8vNSGFw/видео.html.
Hey!! I'd really love to see your reaction to another acappella group (the best one for me), Voctave!! Voctave is known for its Disney Medleys and other covers! You can check their " Disney Showstoppers Medley", " Disney Princess Medley" or " Disney Fly Medley"! If you don''t like Disney, you can check their " Great Movie Medley" or " The Prince Of Egypt Medley", total mastetpieces!!! Always looking for your reactions! All the love from Lebanon🇱🇧!
Love Mitch and Matt together! And Mitch DOES look right through you.
If you haven't already seen/heard their version of "The Sound of Silence"--which is magical--you'll get another great dose of Matt's vocal prowess.
I’m going to echo some other comments about checking out their Imagine cover… it is so beautiful and so powerful! Same with their version of Amazing Grace/My Chains Are Gone!!
Dark, lush, haunting, luminous.
I love this version! Great reaction! If you haven't heard Mitch's cover of Billie Eilish's Your Power you should check it out.
I couldn't agree more. They're captivating!

Bohemian Rhapsody 🔥 Mitch takes the lead and he has a big surprise in this one

You should check out their version of Imagine. Their harmonies are unreal.
They say not a cover- an upgrade. Yep, Mitch captured my heart the first time I heard him open his mouth to sing!
PTX at their masterful best. As brilliant as they are individually, it’s when they come together that they are at their best. Definitely more than the sum of their parts! Thanks for posting.

You are right on when Mitch has a moment...it is a moment..Great reaction !! that was enjoyable!! Subbed. 5 voices = 1 wall of sound..yep.
Your comments on this song were just spot on! And, of course, they apply to many of their other songs as well. Can't remember if you have already done it or not, but "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" really brings forth their harmony skills.

I also love Mitch the most. I could listen to him sing all day long. His voice has such a range and I prefer his lower register. Great reaction!!!
I think of all of them as individual sticks of dynamite that any one of them could explode into the music world individually and be a huge success. You should react to their original Love Again. Mitch has the lead.

LUVED your reaction...i appreciate that you dont pause every six words...kudos
I love it when you hit the PTX wall of sound. Always a treat.
Great reaction!!
The "PTX Upgrade" is strong with this one for sure.
I'm so happy that you reacted to this song! Thank you!

It is almost Fall. They did a version of Making Christmas from The Nightmare Before Christmas. The perfect Halloween/Christmas song.
As the season is upcoming, Matt does the main vocals on "You're a Mean One Mr Grinch" compares very well to the original.
Great reviews! Pls more Pentatonix
You wanna hear more of Matt..react to You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch..it's fun and Matt takes the lead..

So powerful, right? Great reaction 👌🏽
Agree wholeheartedly about Mitch.
Please react to their cover of Hallelujah or Imagine 😁
Check out grinch. Matt is lead and it shows you how amazing he is
🖤
You should actually check out the original from the early 1980's by Tears for Fears
Here is the link to the original of the song by Tears For Fears in 1982 ruclips.net/video/u1ZvPSpLxCg/видео.html . Enjoy ❤

Kirstin has definitely been growing on me and her voice has grown so much as well...also nice pun
Don't forget Amy Lee from Evanescence in your list of incredible female vocalists.
@@professionalvampire1 She's included in the "etc", can't list 'em all. 😉
Scott is my favorite.
👍👍👍👍👍👍💖🇬🇧
Did you do Mitch Grassi’s version of the Power by billie eilish. It’s breathtaking.
Knowing what a Mitch fan you are, I just found this and thought you might enjoy it. It's "What is this Feeling" from Wicked - ruclips.net/video/g1DL8vNSGFw/видео.html.

Don't forget Voctave's "Disney Love Medley" featuring Kirstie from PTX and her (at the time) fiance Jeremy Michael Lewis.
Hi Tom how are you ? please check out Natural disaster live. Avi's Bass his so mad there i think you gonna love it. Much love from Portugal
Yes, as has already been noted, they self-identify as a band.
Tears for fears were the original group who did this....Judy D
Cant wait till you react to Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree
Donnie Darko version is not the original. Original is by Tears For Fears.
Awesome reaction! I'd seriously like to see what you think of AURORA - The Serd. Keep creating this awesome content.
Nope...they're a band.
