How the Space Race Inspired John Hennessey and the Original Venom GT

On a hot and humid day at the Grand Prix of Houston, John Hennessey sat down with Alan Taylor and really opened up about his 270.49 mph record-breaking Venom GT and his inspirations along the way. NASA and JFK's iconic "We choose to go to the Moon" speech in 1962 was a huge influence on John. He soon learned he shared that inspiration with the great former Ford CEO, Alan Mulally, who also made a profound influence on John.
In Kennedy's speech, which was intended to persuade the American people to support the Apollo program and the national effort to land a man on the Moon, Kennedy characterized space as a new frontier, invoking the pioneer spirit that dominated American folklore. He infused the speech with a sense of urgency and destiny, and emphasized the freedom enjoyed by Americans to choose their destiny rather than have it chosen for them.
