So much hate from people that have even never sat on one. I own a 2019 among several other bikes in my stable. This gets the most attention and is the most fun, the most comfortable of all of my bikes. And they all have two wheels. This three wheeled beauty is an absolute hoot! If you own one in North America as I do. Hold on to it. It will be a unicorn soon.
Jesus, the way that he's just ripping it on these narrow unfamiliar roads through BLIND CORNERS is just a testament to how good the grip on this bike is. Holy cow
Ive got a 2021 Niken and its incredible....Theres alot of hate for this bike but Mossy is spot on saying none of them have actually ridden it! If you dont like being stared and pointed at then maybe this isnt the bike for you but I urge people not to completely write it off until youve ridden one..best bike I've ever owned 👍
I rented one for two days and it really is true. So many people hate on it without ever having even tried it. Thing is downright unfair in the corners hahaha
@@Kaizoushin lol! You are so right!!👍
"Alot" isn't a word, dummy.
@@cowmath77 thank you for correcting him, I guess lime scooters are also a bike because of two wheels, technically correct is the most important thing in the conversation!
@@cowmath77 yeah, two wheels and seat - you never saw scooter like that? Damn, get your head out of your ass sometimes and you Will see So many nicer things than trying to put someone down when they are Just trying to show how happy they are with their thing
Speaking as someone who lost the front end of their Suzuki GT250 X7 in the wet in about 1980, I've always wanted a Niken since I laid eyes on one. I recently paid £8k for a 2021 pre-reg with zero miles on the clock. WHAT A MACHINE. Have encountered no haters thus far, albeit I've only had the beast for 2 months. I echo everything Mossy has said. To ride it is to love it! Greetings from sunny Stubbington!
The best advert for a Niken that Yamaha could ever hope for! I hope they recognize Mossy for this review - great real-world consumer test. More Mossy please!
What an intro! Massive production value guys, awesome. I am dropping a microphone on your behalf right now 👍👊🏻
Owner of the first GT version.. fantastic front grip
Most reliable bike l have ever owned..soon be 30,000 miles..
I've wondered about this. The front end looks complex and like there's a lot of moving pieces and pivots. Has it needed anything expensive or difficult as far as front-end maintenance is concerned?
@@morley3810 No issues with front end..
Most of bearings sealed units
I keep linkages lubricated with spray lube..
As l said.. reliability superb.... scheduled maintenance not difficult..
Rear tyres last ( for me )..about 6,000 miles before replacing... About 9,000 on front ( currently on Michelin Pilot)
Gear box superb.
Added Brembo pads in front for more feel..
Average about 54 MPG .. UK
PS..l been riding for 50 years..had many premium machines....
The NIKEN is special..!!
People either like or don't.
Personally too many folk more concerned what their pals may think... jeeeezz
Mossy , and BSB riders and Japan test riders have high regard ( RUclips)
Stay safe..
I drive 110,000 miles a year and I have never seen one of these on the road.... except for the niken I own!! I absolutely love the niken!! In a world full of vanilla motorcycle's yamaha made something special! Unless you have ridden one you don't know what you are missing.
Thanks for charging those corners at the 6 min mark, gives me a good feeling of rhe confidence the front end instills. Great review!
Mossy is baaaaack 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 mossy is just awesome
I love it! I get it and when the Piaggio MP3 came out I always thought that technology would be great on a full on motorcycle. I no longer care what other bikers think and want to have a go on this.
Well said 👏 I've got one and it's an incredible machine...definitely take one for a test ride 👍
Very happy to see new version
Having closely followed your Niken journey (it was your conversation with John Milbank at the Sausage Cafe that made me start to pay serious attention to the Niken) I was almost convinced to pick up a very cheap original model on my return to the UK with a few reservations but this 2023 model has pretty much addressed all the little issues that might have had me looking towards a Tracer GT (with its own issues) or a Guzzi V85 TT or the like. Yes, it's expensive but while I would love to see it gain the positive attention it deserves, my selfish perspective expects that it will be ignored by the British bike-buying public and therefore we should see some stonking discounts kicking in around the time I head back to Blighty.
Either way, another great review Mr Moss. Much, much appreciated
I seriously want one of these now, realizing how impressive the stats are considering the fact that it’s a totally unique front end with a huge advantage over 2 wheeled motorcycles; yet it doesn’t even weigh much more than your typical full-sized Adventure Bike, weighs much less than pretty much all the cruisers on the market.. has all the comfort & amenities
A bit Vibey when you cane it. Mossy informs the consumer like no other. Good to have him back. Mossy for ever
The Honda Ridgeline of motorcycles...perhaps only the North American viewers will get this comparison
I rode the previous NGT when I worked at a Yamaha shop a few years ago. It was brilliant! I tried to get as many people to experience as possible.
A few weeks ago, I was at a different shop that had one used. Someone was talking a little down about how weird it was. I basically shut him up and said he needs to experie ce it because it will blow your mind.
Great comparison!
BSB needs to have these for racing!
Now that I would watch!
That would be insane to watch. High side the thing and you'll be going galactic
A one make series like the bmw's hey?
That would be epic!
Now there’s an idea! Bit like truck racing!
Love all your videos Mr. Mossy! The one I’ve rewatched the most is the 2018 Triumph Speed Twin review.
💪 nice and honest review. Thanks 🙏 and keep it going strong. I’m 51 and riding since age 14. Nowadays I got a Cbr 1000 and a 2020 Niken. To be honest, on the road in the rough/wet I’m feeling much more relaxed and probably faster too on the Niken. You just know you’re not risking that much. As you said, you just have to stay out of the urge to “experiment” too much with its limits, and you’re golden! Love the bike. The only real complain that I’ve got here in Italy, you actually cannot choose an other kind of front tire. That’s too bad. I definitely think there should be more options (and recent compound )🤷♂️
Good to see your vast experience give this a genuine workout Mossy. Not sure I can get a ride on one but it looks like great fun.
What a great review, I like that I know you know what you are talking about. I love all bikes, they all have their thing and get us out there forgetting about all the stress. I'd have one, why not. You are beaning it too, looks awesome. Funny and honest review, thank you.
I like it. Looks like Batman’s bike. Looks like a mad comfy safe fast touring machine
Cracking review Mossy lad..👌👌
YAAAAAY Mossy is back!
He is annoying af.
i did a demo ride on the gen 1 niken and we were able to get it through the corners on 2 wheels :')
NIKEN GT TT! That would be good event! 20 of them going over the mountain
I’m glad these exist, as not enough mental bikes these days. But I’m amazing Yamaha updated it as the ones in the U.K. they couldn’t give away on the used market. Depreciation was so much I was almost tempted!
Yamaha dropped the price in New Zealand by $10kNZD (£5K GBP) for both versions and a 0% no deposit finance option made the Niken GT cheaper than the Tracer 9GT. It worked they sold the entire stock although majority of the stock was demos(And the press bike fleet) for nearly all Yamaha dealers to get people to experience it.
A ZX14R donk and specifically tuned suspension would make it a wild ride 😂. Still haven’t had the chance to have a skid on one but they’re certainly intriguing.
But scooter tyres only rated to 125mph so MT engine suffices.
Wish they did a ‘S’ or ‘R’ model with all the goodies, light wheels, Ohlins suspension, good Brembo brakes and 160+bhp
Great review Mossie… do a longer review👍
Literally no one except you do
They already make it, it's called the MT-09 SP
I also do….MT10 engine in one. I’d love a go.
@@HeyAddieImTojo I do aswell
As usual, the new NIKEN will continue to get abuse from onlookers but I reckon the geezer who's sat on it will be having too much fun to care!!
I like it. All the fun and excitement of riding, without nearly as much legit concern about washing out the front end.
A very good test by Chris Moss. After all, he had one long term and he picked out it’s niceties very well.
Mossy must be the most entertaining bike gerno ever! 😂
I had one as a winter hack - I think they're ideal commuter bikes for people like me who don't want to sit in traffic on the M25 everyday. I still prefer two wheels on sunny days and weekends though.
Winter hack?
Sounds like from your comment that lane-splitting isn't much of a chore on these. The reviewer said something to the effect of a "significant limitation" in terms of lane-splitting. How much of a limitation would you say there is? If lane-splitting on a sportbike, say a R1, rates a 100, and on, say a Polaris Slingshot, a 0, where would you place the Niken?
@@Q.Q. The Niken is narrower at the bars than a Yamaha Super Tenere 1200
@@Q.Q. I'm guessing if you have experience splitting with panniers you could split with a Niken no problem, thats the feel I got from walking round one, not had a chance to drive it
@@Q.Q. I used to commute from East Sussex to Central London daily via M23/M25. The bike is narrower than a GS, you can get through most gaps. Central London traffic, as mentioned you just have to be aware where the front wheels are (it's actually surprisingly easy to forget) but perfectly do-able. If a mirrors folded R1 is 100 then on your scale a Niken probably 80 overall.
Nice one Mossy, watching this has changed my perspective on these.
113.3hp @ 10,000rpm 67lbs-ft @ 7,000rpm but most importantly it weighs only 595lbs which for a bike that has an extra front wheel, 2 sets of front suspension, brakes, a totally unique steering mechanism and GT accessories including panniers plus a powerful 890cc triple just shy of 115hp.. these #’s are promising in terms of power to weight ratio especially with such a rich powerband that this engine delivers.
I'd love Yamaha to do a probably one off bike where they throw every bit of technology they have, Niken 3 wheel setup, R1 engine, adaptive suspension, AWD and just make an absolute monster of a bike.
Your reviews are always great, but this is just the best! Very entertaining and informative.
Looks interesting. I’ve currently got 3 bike. A Panigale, an RVF and a sports tourer for taking pillions. I can see this taking the sports tourer slot.
Love rvf’s 😍
Good idea.
That bike is insane.I've never seen a bike go around curves at the speeds you are going...IT|'S MAD Brother!!!
love Mossy and the drone work
Excellent review Mossy! Great information from someone who knows how to communicate it. I like the Nikkei and it's uncommon appearance, and who can complain about more front grip?
This is absolutely my dream bike and I'm really worried that I'll never get to own one now that they are even more expensive and harder to get.
This is a perfect police motorbike. I’m amazed that they haven’t switched to these already
As soon as i saw the title i knew Mossy would be the rider. Chris and Fagan let the old man ride the tricycle.
This reviewer brings a smile to my face, more videos would be appreciated 👍🏼
Amazing production quality on this. I love the drone shot at 0:24.
A Mossey review on the Niken takes some of the prejudiced stigma away from owning one. I rode an original one on the Niken tour. Hopefully, see a few more on the British roads.
Except he basically said (I'm paraphrasing obviously) that owning one will get you all the shit in the world and that you better have thick skin if you wanna park it anywhere near human beings. 🤣
@MackP Yep but the older I get, the less I give a ### what folks think.
@@Banditmanuk
Same here, but it has to be said for those of us who do (give a ###). 😉
Good to see Mossy the living legend.
Brilliant commentary. 😂. Would love a go on one to experience the grip level. 👍
The screen adjuster is it only on right hand side ? Seams crazy as would be a lot easier on the left
Maybe just pull over for 15 seconds to adjust your windscreen ... seems also advisable if crashing is not on your agenda :)
That's just for the left hand drive euro models
Its meant to discourage you from use while riding
Bravo to whoever is doing these aerial shots. They look so smooth that they look like CGI wow
Good review - Thank you - I agree, you can't get off it without someone saying something - I think the new model cost is difficult - to upgrade mine I would have to hand mine in and pay the same again for a 3 year newer Niken GT - If the jump in cost was not so great I would welcome the updates of the new model - that said, I am still enjoying mine.
Omg just been waiting for this review since it’s launch 4.4 years ago!!!
You're getting better at this reviewing lark Mossy. I enjoyed that.
I love how open minded you are to something so odd, very interesting.
Mossy thank you. My vote is you should be first to review all bikes that come out.
Great review.
I have the Tricity 300 the baby of the Niken. Think SMax scooter with 3 wheels.
Even I get the “it’s not a real bike/scooter” statements but every one who says it has never ridden one.
I love it. It’s so easy to throw around on bends and you can still filter traffic. Very low speed it needs a little more pushing around but not by much.
Cheers
I had one as a loaner a couple of years ago - I loved it
I don’t think I’d get one but I certainly wouldn’t insult anybody who’s brave enough to try something new!
Stunning bike, 😮 great review Mossy. :-)
Would make a great one make race series…..
Could be really good as a dirt track bike also.
Brilliant. Could listen to you all day 😀
What's not to like? You just don't have to put your foot down ever, stable even at slow speeds, 3 wheels mean more weight can be carried so bigger engine in the future, no pressure on your hands while leaning and you can ride this till death. To me that is the perfect bike. People on two wheels just slide off on empty roads after a light drizzle not to mention I haven't heard of any one of this having a bad accident.
i think they should add this as a new series to BSB 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Excellent review, loved the true honest talk and fucking realism.
Great review. Always been intrigued by these bikes. Never actually seen one in the wild, which is a bummer.
I see the usual closed mind comments of the Brit biker in full flow already 😕
I remember drawing something like this back when I was a lad. Mine also had dual rear single sided swingarms. Build it and I will COME.
Youre right about who would want this bike, i got zh2, ninja h2, gen 3 busa, mt10, zx6r and k7 gsxr 1000. Now i really want something else instead of naked or supersport and this is really different than anything else. Im probably getting one in 6 months
If love to have a go on one. Can't see myself ever buying one.
I've never ridden one yet, but I can already see it could use a 240 rear rubber, like the one on my M109R. Then you would have endless grip front and back
Love my 2021 niken but sore on tyres, 2000 miles each out of last 2 rears.
Not likely to pay £16k for one but happy to pay £10.5k for preregistered 0 miler. It was that or just another Tracer. And your last reviews were much appreciated in the decision making.
44 teeth we need more mossey!
Do you put feet down on this bike? Or do the double-front tires keep you up?
Great vid!
I read somewhere that it will fall over unless you put a foot down.
I wish Yamaha had made a mt10 version
I agree, that would have made more sense and made it an even better touring bike.
Haven’t watched it yet, but I know I’ll enjoy mossy chuntering on
Great bike. Can we have one with a MT10 or R1 engine ? 270 kilos needs something...extra.
Brilliant vlog, maybe a one make race series ?
Great review... one question - what does he keep tapping with his left thumb? its all i can watch!
Well done Yamaha for allowing the Niken to exist. A win for engineering over profit. The SS125 road in Sardinia is one of the best.
Please take one to a trackday like you guys did with the ktm 1290 adventure!
Do we call or a bike or a trike? It looks awesome but sadly I've never been on one.
Had mine for almost a year now...done 6k miles...I goto meets and bikers cafes 2 or 3 times a month and ive ....yet .....to have any negative response from anyone....infact its the opposite....most of the time I'm surrounded by people before I've even taken my helmet off .....i also have a 2 wheeled adventure bike but its my niken I goto for fun....the grip is insane even in the wet...
Never ever seen one on the road except when the Tour du France came through my town a few years ago. Then there were boatloads.
mossy gettin down n dirty wit da triken 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great review. Having more contact patches is always better.
I had the Gilera Fuoco tricycle and I got both hate and puzzlement from people, one guy told that it can't possibly work and I told him that he was probably correct and I just rode away.
this seems completely off topic.. but would these be excellent police motorcycles? granted in the states its HD or nothing.. but it seems to have so many advantages for the role
In the states, police motorcycles are often Honda or BMW. Not sure what the breakdown is regionally, but I never see Harley cop bikes.
Love the look of this 😎
I really like these bikes they are weird and quirky and look like great fun to ride, i really don’t understand why people hate them, plus the obvious benefits for a disabled rider is fantastic.
as someone who picked up a severe knee injury a while back and who can't be certain a "normal" bike is in my future, this does interest me. does it stand up on its own ie no feet down when you pull up? and does it have a reverse gear?
It has nothing extra from a normal bike.
Try the Paiggio mp3 530 exclusive it has everything you need 😊
No and no
You're still getting the wrong picture. This is a tall and heavy beast, it's not going to help with your knee situation.
It's a motorcycle with 2 wheels in front. That's basically it - no additional stability or tricks, just improved grip in the front. The forks swivel and rock together like one fork, that's what makes it a bike rather than a trike.
This guy is awesome!!!😁😄
I rode the first version and thought it felt great but it's impossible to miss potholes as at least one of the three wheels are going to hit it!
That sucks... as I'm quite big on evading potholes and getting in my danger & collision avoidance practice at the same time. 😄
I'd watch this just to hear Mossy's forthright summing up ! If I had stacks of money, I'd have one amongst my fleet....but I haven't...so I won't and that's the problem, it's a small niche machine.
Good information it is a real bike as the space between the two front wheels is not wide enough so a full license is required not like a Paiggio mp3 530 exclusive which you can ride on a car license and locks the front so you don’t have to put your feet down when you get to traffic when you get used to it
Trike, not bike.
Depends on what the definition of a trike is as compared to a motorcycle the mp3 is same width ,cam am ryker is 1509 mm(59.4 inches) mp3 465 mm(18.3 inches) 760 mm (29.92 inches) mirror to mirror average motorcycle is 747mm (29.41 inches) niken is 875 mm mirror to mirror and front wheels are 410 mm (16.4 inches)
@@adamhughes5358 You said 'bike', bike is (bi) two wheels. This is trike (tri) with three wheels. Whether it's a motorcycle or not is another debate, but it on the face of it it's definitely a motorcycle.
I mean I'd take this over a can am any day of the week
Can am is not a bike. Niken is.
If Yamaha could update the suspension so it could free-stand on its own kind of like a Can-Am Spyder it would open this bike to a lot larger group of riders. I have never even see one of these on the highway, which says it is a failure sales wise. Imagine how many additional riders that would opt for this if they could set this up to be free standing......
i could see that being possible with a fork lock.. might be something they could look into!
think the can am is completely different concept / construction / front end, Niken is closer to Piaggio MP3, which I suspect was the inspiration behind it.
They won't do that for the uk unfortunately, if they did that it would be classed as a proper tricycle, meaning people with car licences will be able to ride them without a bike licence, lots of accidents will occur for sure 😂
@@MadmanMarsBar haha then it'd be like the US
Why is yamaha afraid to go further with this concept? Why not a dual rear tire to balance the grip out? Or maybe a 3rd wheel in the front if they really want to improving handling. I'm holding out!
I wonder if you can push-steer this type of bike? Or double-push-steer, as one would do to avoid a pothole while maintaining a straight line. I would like to play with a tuned one on a flat dirt track, AFT style.
I wanna know if you swap the forks left to right does it get wide enough to legally be a trike in the UK?
