Just a cotton ball should be used in the eye area. A kitten making a sudden move could ram the stick into their eye. That mama cat sure picked an inconvenient place to have her kittens. If you had been able to monitor the kittens from birth, you may have been able to get the ailing kitten help in time to save its life. The mama cat's fault, not yours.
