    Oh yes! This lets me know I am not alone losing things and just forgetting about sewing. Thank you. It all matters.

    Batch processing is such an amazing time saver…because you don’t have to switch the activity that my brain is doing. My sewing room definitely looks like a tornado hit it more often than not. And…as my momma always said-when you attempt to make a space function better you often have to tear it apart first. So, don’t be embarrassed a bit.

      Thank you! I completely agree, things get worse before they get better! I'm excited to see how it turns out.

    I laughed out loud about the making a quilt sandwich part being the absolute worst. I 1000% agree! 😂

    Lots of great thoughts in this video! It sounds like we process things very similarly (both the 'how we are when we're stressed', and how we break things up into useful chunks). I am a victim of the roadblock mentality so hard that I don't even recognize it, sometimes. Sometimes the roadblock is that I need to press and I don't want to wait for my iron to turn on, or I picked colors for my next project but there's something about them that I'm not completely happy with, or a sewed something and it didn't come out like I wanted it to... my brain just completely redirects me away from my sewing. I always laugh (in retrospect... I never see it when it's happening) that simple things can really get the ball rolling. Need to cut for a project? Put the pencil, post-its and pins on the cutting table so I can label as I cut... well, since everything is here, I might as well pick the color I need the least of, and get those pieces cut. Well that went quickly, maybe I can do the next color. Oh, the whole thing is cut...? great! Our brains are frustrating and amazing.

      The brain is amazing and frustrating. It's so silly how one tiny bit of resistance can stop us from achieveing something. Like you say just being ready to go so you can step into doing it makes all the difference! Thanks for watching!

    Thank you so much for this overall view of how your challenge went for you. It was very inspiring. Can’t wait to see your sewing room organization challenge. So glad you decided to show it all - messy to start off with and all. I think there are a lot more of us that have a chaotic room or space thaaan (oops, that was me banging into something in my room that I’m sure could find a place to be put away) not!

    Oh My Goodness, Tom, So happy to see you again! As you were speaking my mind raced with agreement on all the same issues to be more productive. We seem to be thinking alike across the board. ❤ (Yay, I’m not the only one who has these thoughts). I am feeling excited to see all the wonderful things you have done! It’s so easy to watch RUclips videos, but I’d rather be really sewing 🤷‍♀️ I need sewing to make me feel good, so why can’t I find 15 minutes a day 🤔 Thanks for sharing this on RUclips, not everyone is using Instagram 😳 👏👏🇬🇧

      I get very annoyed at myself for sitting watching sewing videos instead of just doing it :-) I am planning on doing a compilation video fo all my challenge Reels for RUclips. Hope to post it soon!

      Right?! LOL I don't know why but I'd rather clean the sink that make a quilt sandwich. Wish there was a service to outsource it too :-)

    I did the clutterbug quiz online, it’s free and it’s shown me how I need to organise my sewing room so that I find it an enjoyable, productive space to be in. It’s also much easier to keep it tidy. I always spend a couple of minutes straightening it up and putting things back where they live when I’ve finished sewing. This has saved me a huge amount of time searching for lost things!

      That's a great idea I will need to check it out. I did try to do the end of day pack up and tidy up and I guess I didn't cement it as a habit strongly enough as I currently turn eveyrthing off and walk away. I'll get there, eventually :-)

    Great to see you back online Tom! The August challenge was a great idea - I managed to complete each day and have continued doing something quilt related each day since. Success!

      Fantastic! Thanks so much for taking part in it! I haven't quite managed every day but I am doing it at least 3-4 times a week now which is a vast improvement on never. Keep up the good work!

    Some great ideas here, thanks Tom. I'm stuck on trying to quilt a large quilt on my domestic machine and at the moment I'm always finding an excuse not to do it - it's half quilted. I think I'll just have to set my room up ready to quilt - it will be a pain but then hopefully I will get the quilting done (and stop watching RUclips videos - sorry I laughed out loud at that; it is exactly what I do and I'm running out of videos to watch!) Thanks again. Looking forward to watching your sewing room re-organisation. I think mine is fairly well organised 😅

    • @TheColourBlindQuilter
      @TheColourBlindQuilter  2 года назад

      I feel that pain, I still have a UFO from 3 1/2 years ago that is sandwiches and ready to go but still hasn't made it to the sewing machine. Maybe next month HA

    So good to hear from you and to see you looking well again. We have just moved house; I was fortunate to have a whole room for my sewing and crafting which was actually quite organised. It was great. But the house we moved to needs a lot of renovation and my sewing space is a corner of a room and everything is in boxes and I can't find what I need when I need it. Although I have very little time to actually sew. But I console myself by knowing that eventually it will all come together and meanwhile I will just handsew some small projects.

    • @TheColourBlindQuilter
      @TheColourBlindQuilter  2 года назад +1

      I hope you get there with it! Everything of mine is in boxes as my room has no storage, and is shared as my main work office as well.

    Thank you for your terrific video! Organising my sewing corner was very helpful - I higly recommend Karen at Just get it done Quilt channel for that. (And I keep my rulers together - haaaate looking for them!) Thank you for the idea of sewing 15 min every day. I want to try this! ❤️

      Glad the idea was helpful, it is amazing how much you can get done in 15 minutes a day. Karen is a good friend so I was thinking about asking her for some coaching on organisation, maybe we can do a collab :-)
